6th
Annual
Friends of Dumont Dunes
Cleanup went great! |
|

Many dedicated duners made it out
this year as usual to help with the
Dumont Cleanup. Thanks to the BLM,
this was a free weekend for all
those who made the trip. Some
managed to make a complete weekend
out of it and some just made it out
for the day to help out. Regardless,
it is always so great to see the
Dumont community pull together to
work towards a common goal for
something they love and to keep the
place clean.

President's
Day Weekend 08 |
|

Entrance Road:
excellent
condition
Dunes/ Sand: choppy
Weather: perfect weather-
slightly warm during the day, cool
at night
Attendance: very large amount
of duners

Many
of the holiday weekends so far this
season have been pretty calm. Well,
President's Day weekend that sure
did change! Just like every year,
tens of thousands of duners came out
to Dumont Dunes to celebrate President's
Day weekend. The Las Vegas Jeep Club
was out as usual in full force
hosting the 37th annual Jeep
Jamboree Hill Climbs and Drag Races.
Many spectators gathered all weekend
to watch the hill climbs on the face
hill and the drag racing action.

The
dunes were very tracked out with
lines in every direction from the
many bikes and rails that were out
cruising the dunes. It got a little
close for comfort at times due to
the many
people trying to share the dunes on
such a busy weekend, however there
were very few
injuries reported. Comp Hill was
full all weekend with racers and
spectators getting their fix of
non-stop action as usual. Vendor Row
was one of the largest this year.
There was
everything from t-shirts, food,
firewood, quad and rail parts to
even quads for sale.

Many
agreed that the BLM did a fantastic
job over President's Day Weekend
getting everyone through the pay
area in a very quick manner. The
entrance road was well-watered to
keep the dust to a minimum and was
very well graded too! Good job,
Barstow BLM!

MLK
weekend: Jan 18-21, 2008 |

Entrance Road:
excellent
condition
Dunes/ Sand: choppy in some
spots but overall
not too bad
Weather: great weather- cool at
night, just right during the day,
some
wind on Sunday
MLK weekend was very
quiet for a holiday weekend. It
wasn't too crowded and the weather
was very cooperative. The DDR meet &
greet was a fairly good turnout on
Saturday with many duners showing up
in buggies, on quads, and in side x
sides to chat and say hi to each
other. The dunes were slightly on
the choppy side in some areas, but
if you rode the most common lines
the dunes were easy to read and like
riding a roller coaster. It was
another great duning weekend. |

New Year's
recap |
|

 |
New Year's weekend
was fairly quiet out at Dumont this
year. Many people came and
went over the holiday weekend
though. Some made a 4 or 5 day
weekend out of New Years while
others
stayed
all the way from Christmas through
the first of
the year.
Other
than some very low temperatures, the
weather was very cooperative. The dunes
became very choppy throughout the
weekend, but a little wind on Monday
smoothed them out a bit.

Years weekend...

12-23-07 dune
trip report |
 The
dunes were awesome and the weather
was perfect. It was fairly warm
compared to how cold it has been
lately. The sand had some rough
spots from the recent rain on the face
hills, but the dunes were great! The
razors were pretty rounded off and
the lines flowed well and
were really smooth. The entrance road was in
good shape too.

Thanksgiving Weekend Report
(11/22/07-11/25/07) |
|

Thanksgiving
weekend brought out many duners to
Dumont
Dunes. Many agreed it seemed like it
was more calm than ever. There were
very few accidents reported which is
very was good news compared to other
weekends in the past.
Some stayed for as
much as a full week or more, others
started rolling in Wednesday to make
it to the dunes in time for
Thanksgiving Day. Thursday was nice
and calm and the smell of deep fried
turkeys hung in the air throughout
the camp area.
The weather was very
nice. Temperatures were very
comfortable during the day and cool
at night which made for great night
time fires in camp.
 Thanksgiving
was the first weekend the new Dumont
fee increase was in effect. It went
fairly smoothly considering the
short amount of time the BLM had to
print the new passes and get them
out. Vendors at Vendor Row did not
receive the new passes in time so
that caused a little bit of
confusion since the duners were
informed that they would have them,
but in the end it all worked out.

The
new Vendors Row location was more
popular than ever Thanksgiving
weekend. With the new location
allowing for 2 rows of vendors
facing each other with a lane down
the center for duners to cruise and
check things out, many people
visited and spent plenty of time
there. Many vendors such as
Extreme Outdoors, Sandcrazd, Hog
Heaven, Dog house, and many more
were pretty busy helping duners out. |

Halloween 07
(10/26/07-10/28/07) |
|

Halloween
weekend was a huge turnout as usual.
Many duners packed into Dumont to
celebrate the first big weekend of
the season, Halloween. The weather
was unusually warm for October
and
the wind was almost absent. That
made for some very dusty conditions.
The smoke filled skies from the
California fires also contributed to
the haze that hung over Dumont. In
the end, however, the weather
made for a very nice weekend in the
sand for most.
Comp Hill was a big party Friday and
Saturday night like always. Duners dressed in costumes and
cruised the aisles of comp showing them off to comp hill
spectators. Saturday night the rows of trucks, buggies, and
bikes were lined all the way back to the finger dune across
from comp! Dune season has begun!

Season Kickoff Trip
report
(10/5/07-10/7/07) |
|

Most would probably
agree that the dune season couldn't
have started out any better. October
5th-7th was the season kickoff for
many duners.
The weather started
out pretty windy on Friday, but it
turned out to be a very nice weekend
in the end. The Saturday meet &
greet went great. It was estimated
that over 100 DDR members showed up
at the south pole to hang out, chat,
and meet up for some group rides.
The dunes were smooth and full of
witches eyes and sharp razors, but
as the weekend progressed, they
became easier and easier to read as
paddle tracks were laid out in the
sand.
The entrance road is in fairly good
shape. It was graded on Sept 28th so
it was pretty smooth.

Dumont got
hit with some rain
(9/22/07) |
|
|
The
soft, fluffy sand dunes turned into
hard packed hills over the weekend
as Dumont was hit with some rain.
There was a large amount of rain
that filled the Amargosa River and
rushed over the river crossing
forcing some to 4 wheel and exit
through the Little Dunes.

August Night Ride was a hit!
(8/11/07) |

There was a great turnout of duners
that showed up this last Saturday
for the 2nd night ride of the
summer.
Many hit up
Banshee Hill for some drag racing,
some challenged the
ever-so-hard-to-read smooth dunes,
and then some just showed up to hang
out and enjoy the nighttime
atmosphere of Dumont along with
everyone else.
Before the sunset, temps were in
upwards of 115 degrees, but that
didn't stop the hardcore duners from
taking advantage of some untouched,
virgin sand and going on some epic
dune rides.
After the sunset, there was a nice
breeze and it didn't feel much like
summer at all out there.
Thanks to all that showed up. This
makes yet another great dune trip in
DDR history!
