Have you heard about this?
mike156 replied to racegirl04's topic in Dumont Regulations, Safety & BLM
Let me throw in another twist...I have 2 sandrails for sh$ts and kicks I contacted BLM (on the phone, in person, and on the web) asking a silly question, confident on the answer I asked how old do you have to be to drive a Dunebuggy/sandrail......All 3 times the same answer, we have nothing on the books requiring a certain age to drive an OHV vehicle.....So being the brain surgeon that I'am I asked them "I have a 10 year old son and I can let him go out and drive in the dunes".......(answer)......Well we dont advise it but yes he can :freakin_nuts: Shocking can drive a 800-2500LB sand car but cant ride a quad over a 100cc. Well the 2nd rail is for sell not about to let a 10 year old drive something like that for a long time. Parents should be liable children know no different (MONKEY SEE MONKEY DO) Bottom line its sad times for the families that have experience and respect for others to have to pay the price for laws that only honest people follow. -
I'm also in arriving some time wed. evening

Thanks pete, and all the DDR gang, we had great time as always the food saturday night was unbelievable. I wanted to spend more time with everyone but I had some friends decide to come along last minute and felt I had to entertain them. I saw you guys picking up trash when I was towing back the 2nd quad my son had broke, I hauled A$$ back out there to help but everyone was gone.(feel bad should of just stopped right then and there) Sounds like it was an expensive weekend for alot of people (rough dunes causing alot of broken parts). Again thanks to everyone out there my family and friends are amazed at the size of the group and how nice and generous everyone is......see you all real soon Mike

martin I have a small craftsman mounted in the front of the trailer its like a 3 gal. 2 or 3 hp it fills the tires fine and good for blowing things down, air tools-dont even bother your gen. should run most of the air compressors(contractor types) out there. I think my compressor was under $150 but not a 100% I sort-a barrowed it from work (permanately) I have heard good things about the compressors from Kreagen/pepboys/harbor frieght sometimes you can get a lemon but for the price its worth the chance. I'm going to check into the one that goes under the hood I'll let you know what I find out if you havent already looked

I will also be out probably till monday the 13th

Nice car, same motor and trans set-up as mine I disagree with having to baby it I run my car in the 4000-5000 R.P.M range everytime I drive it, you want the trans to last keep the rear wheels on the ground and dont dump the clutch and depending on how many times a season you go take the trans out in the summer and have freshened up Remember the cars you see advertised with 450 H.P. you get approx. 360+- H.P. to the wheels. V-8 guys and Turbo import guys never agree on anything, pump gas vs. race gas- 2 stroke vs. 4stroke bottom line you need to be happy with your purchase regardless of what we say. If your not in any hurry come out and go for some rides in different cars I'll give you a ride or two and I'm sure some of the other guys will give rides also

I have a family friend that put one of the first Northstar motors and a 2D trans into a longtravel rail(CHRF and Dave Folts help build) The trans has a few upgrades but uses the stock gears, the motor is mostly stock except for the cams and fuel injectors and a oil injections system for when he does wheelies. To the ground on a dyno 340 H.P. has been runnig it hard the past 6 seasons no problems yet. The only thing changed out was before the season started last year he changed the valve springs. This car runs with turbo cars and beats most 520 H.P. cars non of us in the group understand how but it does. Take it for what its worth our friends car maybe wieghts 1900# the car your looking at is probably 2500#. I'm also concerned with the radiator location because of the possability of a leak or hose pop off (and it was a small concern until the DDR open weekend when one of the cars in the group was having cooling problems and did pop a hose all over his back just think if there was kids in a back seat ) If you can get the car for a good price 45-55000 its worth spending a few extra bucks to put the steel braided hoses on like Dons car plus it looks good stay on top of the maintance and that car will run for alot of seasons to come

:redhat: Hey half the reason I go to the dunes is to sleep in and relax at least ONE day of the weekend! What's wrong with that? Besides, I was up pretty much before anyone on Sunday AM of the kickoff weekend. It's all good. Hey pete I got your back as far as saying you were 1of4 people still by the fire at 3A.M., But one the first ones up The way I saw it was the kids and I cleaned up all the food and trash, said good bye's and watch'd 1/2 the camp leave, went for a dune ride, came back to camp to see you and steveo hangin on the back of your tailgate sortof hating life. But hey thats how I saw it, I could be wrong it was sunday and things do become hazy
-
For the most part the main road in(Dumont road)is ok stay towards the middle, the water came across in 3or4 spots taking some realestate with it but only on the south side of the road some big drop off's, the big problem as of sunday was from just before the river crossing up to the plateau. The only way in or out was thru the pay station, hopfully by thurs. all the roads will be fixed, if not the only problem I see would be the river crossing before the real river crossing(should be dry but rough and deep) Dont let road stop you from going its not that bad just watch for the holes, Have fun be safe
-
Oh sorry, Well camp is good but the problem I see with that spot is it takes people forever to get out of their chairs or trailers and motivate themselves to go ride as to if we all meet at the southpole at 12 or 1 o'clock (give or take on the times) everyone is ready to go(Great idea on the southpole by the way). But hey I dont want to say I'm easy, but I'm easy(like a sheep just ready to follow)

I was driving a blue long travel rail and wife (mostly my son) follow'd in a white H2. The dunes are always fun, sweet light show friday night before the rain hit.

Just got back from dumont. If anyone remembers presidents weekend 2005 well that what it was like. The rain came down all night long friday night, stopped sat. morning, the dunes rougher than sh*t,the road to the pay area from the dunes is about 10 to 18" lower. The river crossing friday afternoon dry, today the standard 6" of water over the concrete, and surprise the flashflood crossing is back and about 2' deep, alittle early in the season to start having road trouble. Hopefully someone gets a dozer and a grader out there before Halloween otherwise tie the toys down real good and hold on. 2 weeks to go see everyone real soon.
-
I met people who know people...Oh wait I need stickers too
-
We'll be out there also. sounds like everyone is camping in seperate places, maybe everyone can pick a time to meet and go for another ride.(maybe even make it to the northpole this time) Kirk I'll be pulling in sometime friday evening I'll look for you. Hey thanks for hangin out with us on sunday that was alot of fun your family is great, and thanks to everyone else last weekend that has to be the best trip to Dumont I've had. Word on the street (or word from the teacher) is Mutha b*tch's is not going over to well in school like it does in the dunes oh well...Thanks again to everyone and see you all real soon
-
I think its time to listen to your husband and go look at new trailers with more storage and cargo space for your sand rail. sorry we wont see you this weekend I'll look for brian tell him to camp by $hit'r #6
-
I have a craftsman (3 or 5 gal tank) its about 18"long 10"wide 20"tall mounted in my trailer. Good for tires and blowing down the toys. Running are tools I have friends running small compressors but they fabricated extra tanks under their trailers( to much work and money if you ask me)
