  5. is this some sort of dream your having ??
  6. well , monter rails were desighned from the outset to be sand cars, i was at therer debute for the first car, and i know antonio. ron owned toy box motorsports and i spent 6 months talking with him getting ready for him to biuld my car. (at this time there were no monster rails) i was going to biuld a desert dynamics car. If it were not for dd deciding to screw around on deliveries to the smaller shops, and delay frames ron would have built dragon tails ( my green car) he is a good builder and does put quality into what he does. no monster is not the best but what is ?? to me the answer is what fits you and your style of driving. funcos are nice they had breaking frame problems for a while and i like jumping thats why i ruled them out 3 years ago. but thats my opinion. with 18" of travel they are a well handling car. i was racing autocross style with a funco the day i blew my 454 but thats was caused from a lose distributor. i made more power than the funco but its handing abaility of those buggies kept him on me like white on rice. i do respect there handling ability for sure
  7. im getting an excellent deal customer built the motor and couldnt pay for it. higher nickle content in steel slows cylinder wall deflection earlier 60s motors didnt always have a high nickle content so big boost gains saused heavy cyl deflection quicker the power gains in this motor dont match the power of my blown 383 but it does slightly exceed the hp gains of my old 454 small block 600 hp 575 tourqe which was almost a perfect balance for the cars weight , gearing, and tires so matching it down to those spects should make it quite enjoyable. where my 383 with the big blower is completly over powering the car plus the over heating and no reliability why is it steel i dont know i like aluminum but my springs are rated for a heavier iron motor 100 pounds approx. overall i am being told repeatedly that the ls1 is more dependable than the small block by lots of people and there are several customers that are runing small blower ls1s season after season with no trouble. im hoping for that concept i need dependability my car works flawlessly other than the motor woes so i threw this question out there to see if there is any negative feedback about ls1s vs small blocks or anything i should ask or look for before i purchase. everything ive seen and heard tells me ls1 is dependable and the hp range seems good to me.b and see if anybody has anything to say about the steel ls1 to the aluminum ls1 supposedly this motor is not a stroker , he says aluminum the max is 402 ci steel 409 ci any rebuttle ?? EDIT: correction the motor has a 4" stroke crank its basicly an ls1 turned into a small bore 427 but he says its as far as you can go on that block. 409 cubes
  8. crap ther goes my closet doors i hate that road
  9. well op is right monsters are light in the front end but they still are nice cars i would consider one if it wasnt for the tatum black widow. but i think i did ok my eyeball does quite nice i wish i could have those tatum style panels on my eyeball car that would but back on track there nice cars
  10. I think i found my next motor ls1 steel block forged crank titanium rods 9:1 pistons 409 cubic inches small blower delphi electronics intercooler all accesories larg intake, aluminum heads 630 hp 650 ft pnds tourqe free dyno after install they tell me the steel block will be stronger for dependability and he saise it will be a very dependable motor
  11. WHERE IS THE NOTORIOUS INVISAKING
  12. you lost your tranny ?? lol i lost a motor mmmmmmmmmm parts
  13. my question is this what are the steps they said to take to open closed areas such as kelso dunes ??? and has it or why has it not been attempted ???
  14. ithought they were going to seal it a while ago
  15. i would have fired that dumb a$$ in a new york second if i couldnt get up there to beat his dumb a$$ those things cost alot of money. the death of my motor has me all moody can i have some midol
  16. lol don ya that was a 20,000.00 BOOM at least MAYBE, POSSIBLY, AT LEAST IN THE RELM OF "KIND OF" ill be able to get back to the basics and have dependability and enjoy duning. and get to hang with you guys more what i really need is 2 cars one for duning 1 for the hil lol
  17. no dnc this the motor from presbo day the melling pump was the culprit . im just getting around to dealing with it i blew that bill mitchel 454 small block in 05 so this is motor #2. i concede, im going to buy an ls1 7liter version i think im just not to trusting of new technoligy but they have proven more reliable than the last 2 small blocks ive had my buddy with the red ricochete is getting mad at me for going overboard with these overgrown temprametle motors. i guess i lost sight of the duning aspect no more king of the hill just a nice 427 ill be slower but ill get much more dependability and duning fun f-ck i hate compramise why cant i have 900 hp dependable
  18. ok so i started pulling main bearings, my thrust washer was ok but every other main the bearings were spun and even were trying squeeze there way out of the crank champhers im blown away that motor had 4 hours on it the melling pump broke in camp and i watched the oil pressure drop and i shut it off so i know it wasnt caused by that not only that the oil doesnt smell burnt. throw motor #2 in the trash thers a brand new 871 roots blower for sale now with electronic fuel injection and serpentine pully set up best of everything. and a set of merlin aluminum 202 heads for sale all for a small block chevy .
  19. when i was driving truck i went through there a few times atlantic city is filthy the people are cool and its scenic i unloaded on the jersey side of the statue of liberty it was cool nice view
  20. the cool thing isbb is to get the cr 250 aluminum frame and add your components there was a company doing it it made the bikes lighter and turn quicker. !!! 500s rock see you on halloweeny bro
  21. fuel has additives to help cooling so in theory more fuel will aid cooling however when you add more you also have more burning which increases cylinder pressures and causes addl heat so i believe there is a range to be held to accomplish both to a happy medium. more fuel more pressure more heat off set slightly by the cooling properties of fuel. cutting fuel and adding boost is a blow torch melt down eminent. the olders big diesle like the ntc 350 cummins we used to put fuel " buttons " in the manual pump it smoked but you could crank 400 hp out of em, and if you went 425 to 450 hp you had to watch the pyro cause as manifold preesure increased the pyros would warm up quick on a grade. as the "cat" installed burns unburnt gasses to an extent but they are restrictive causin back pressure which alowes hot gases to stay longer in the exhaust between the valves and the entance to the cat causing engine more engine heat so a free flow open exhaust does aid cooling. cooling the charge coming in helps as well however keep in mind when you increse turbo presure you are creating more heat . pressure = heat so somtimes you can take measurs to lower your intake charge but its not seen cause you add more pressure. so you see no change and then you scratch your head and go wtf. lol. increased pressure by bumping up always not somtimes but always will wear internal compnents faster than stock settings . that extra pressure turned to energy causes addl stress loads on the crank, rods, pistons , rings wristpins block and cylinder heads. most motors today can withstand more for longer periouds of time but wear still happens at an increased rate. someone posted earlier that hp will not stress or break pistons that is only a half truth . it depends how you make that hp you increse boost or fuel you effect the motor. but freeing up restrictions to gain power will not this IS NOT a thread for peeps like pete they know all this. this is more geared twords what i see as peeps that have alot of questions and dont know. of course i left out computer timing aids and other precautions on electroncaly contolled engines or fuel properties . this just some basics to give you a general understanding of whats going on when you add and modify. thats does not mean that the wear is so drastic that your truck is going to blow in a year. it could be small "for example" 25000 miles less life or 100000 miles less life. and yes before someone jumps and says my modified is still running and joe blowes blew it was stock. maintanence plays a large factor in the life of your truck . 99% of you will never own your truck long enough to even see the adverse effects of "powering up" your truck. this not a rebuttle just basic simple information thnx bob
  22. you would have to take the number of offroaders from 20 or so years ago and get a ratio. based on the accident rate back then, and compare it to the amount of offroaders now, and the acidents now, to accuratley determine if things are worse or better resposability wise. we have more humans now and they like to leave that out as they present there case for violations and accidents not including increased rangers i remember when the there was 2 rangers from dumont to 29 palms . they can never really accurately gauge this. Off roading has always been at your own risk sport, rangers are needed for those who put there fellow off roaders at risk with stupidity. tearing up stream beds and eco systems thats been going on for 5000 years ?? they scream let things be yet they preach evolution on the other hand. all hypocritacle deserts ALL deserts on public lands belong to the people. and we should be aloud to enjoy it. with rangers nailing the irresponsable. thats what we pay them for. kelso dunes for an example closed why ?? no good reason mikvetch has survived at glamis since the first people decided "gee lets try to drive in that stuff." so what ever there trying to protect has a god given ability to adjust and survive. and a fing reptile in the middle of nowhere or plant will not destroy the world. might i add do you know what kills desert tortuses more than people running them over or taking them ?? CROWS !! i got that straight from a enviromentl inspector when i did a fibre run from henderson to laughlin in 95. he was with us for 2 months we had to go to turtle school it was silly but hey necessary. I saw first hand all the way down 95 in the at&t manhole run we were working on , hundreds of picked out turtles and crows running up and down that line looking for the next one. i like theodore roosavelts idea of keeping open land but the word open is gone. enough of my soap box............
