I just use a 1 Tb network drive but you can put a second drive into your computer and back up to that also. Frey's has 1 Tb internal sata's for $ 99. -

Anyone ever try using Neutral Density Filters out in the Dunes? I know with video cameras they make a huge difference. Was thinking of picking up a couple to experiment with. -

One suggestion is to pick up something to carry it in if you go out in the dunes with it. I picked up a back pack at Best Buy and it works great. Has individual compartments for your accesories and you can adjust the compartments because they are velcro ends so whatever lens you have, you can move them. It keeps the elements(sand) out. has a little loop at the top that I just hang on my handle bars of my quad, if I see a photo opportunity. And then if I go to a party or event like the sand car show, I just carry it in this shoulder holster. Little lighter then the backpack for an all day event.

50 D is a great camera. And These are Excellent len's. Top of the line Canon L series Lens and 2 of the highest rated Canon Len's If you guys go out shootin......I wanna go too :hatdance:

The 30D, 40D and 50D are all awesome and durable camera bodys. Durable and reliable. I put it in my back pack and when a ride the quad all the time. When a photo op comes up....I just stop and take it out and start shooting. Just have to realize its a quality camera and you have to be a little more careful out in the sand. The lens is where the cost is gonna be. So many to choose from. Canon's high end lens's are their L series lens. The have a rubber gasket on the banet where it attachs to the body. They offer greater sealing then thier other lens. That is also there higher end construction and glass lens. Starting out your probably only gonna buy one multi purpose lens due to their costs. But you can get more lens down the road as you get more addicted to the hobby. The 30d, 40d and 50 d are not full sensor cameras. So they have a 1.6 multiplier that you add to your lens to give you a true length of the lens compared to traditional 35mm film camera lens. So that 70-300 telephoto lens on one of these camera bodys is like a 112mm-480mm lens. My opinion, for your only one walk around lens...thats a little long. 28-135mm lens with the multiplier is 44.8mm-216mm. That is more of an all around lens (if you only have one lens). You could still get your camp fire pics with that lens. Lots to think about when it comes to lens.

I like it. What did you use? Aperature? Photoshop? I should send you the High Res Raw file for the tweaks.

That pic was off to the right hand side of comp hill near the corner. I rotated 90 degrees looking back towards banshee hill and shot this one. Behind me was blue skys and sun. Straight ahead was this pure black clouds and wind blowing like crazy. The pictures dont capture how bad those storm clouds looked being there. I was ready to race back to camp but it never did rain. Just looked like it was going to.

Dumont Xmas Day 2008
-
Tempting......Weather looks to be good too.
-
Very nice video. That camera's low light capability is impressive.

We left this morning and it still was not that crowded. Big wind storm xmas eve smoothed everything out but it was pretty torn up by last nite. The sand still had some moisture from some rain prior to xmas. The road in wasn't too bad. Cruised it at about 15 mph. The nights were pretty cold so I would make sure your propane tanks are full and bring some firewood.

I just got back from 4 days there. Weather was great and took the entrance road at about 10 mph. Wasn't too bad. I thought the duning was great Here are some pics

I towed a 41 ft WW with my F350 Diesel Dually for 3 seasons. I had it chipped, intake and exhaust upgrades, 4:10 rear end, helper springs yada yada yada. Was never a problem pulling it , although I know it was hard on the tranny. I just never felt safe stopping it. Took the first trip week before Halloween with the Freightliner pulling the same trailer and there was no comparison. Put the cruise control on 55 and I never felt the trailer behind me. Pulls 1400 rpm at 55 and 1550 RPMs at 70. There are a couple really quick change street lights on palmdale road and I got hit with one and had to stop really quick and it was no problem at all. Never could of done that with my 1 ton.
