Our work dogs can't "sniff" people. That is our policy. Now back in 1979 things were alot different. I am not going to argue that a handler can "cue" a dog into an alert. That has and alway will be a factor. But seeing a positive alert and finding 50lbs of pot from over 75 yards away when he got into odor is pretty darn cool. Now if I told you close your eyes and I will throw a ball at you, but you don't know when. Then I never throw it. You will flinch in hesitation waiting for the ball to come. Why? Because you have information about something that is about to happen and your just waiting for it to occur. Same thing with those tests. They were told that there was a substance to be found and this influenced ( comprimised ) the search. We are taught to assume there is something to "find" in every search and when we come up empty then fine. Reward the dog for the work performed them move on to the next search and hopefully find the toy. It's never going to be rock solid, why? It's a dog/man relationship here... Until people do the right thing in life there will always be a need for law enforcement.

Let me chime in on the dog aspect here. The 20%-30% time they are wrong?????.... How do you know they were wrong? There is a positive alert where the dog shows by either a passive (sitting) posture or an active (scratching/barking) posture. When the dog "alerts" all bets are off as far as your right to not being searched. Now the "false alert" is not really false. It is called a " non-productive alert" Let me explain. How do you know there werent drugs in there at any time prior? The dog is trained on the odors of controlled substances. The dog is trying to find the odor so he can receive his toy from the handler. Its a big game to the dogs of find the toy. The nose of a dog is very sensitve and can locate a very small amount of drugs but turn around a miss a ton of weed simply because he/she was never exposed to that quantity before and was overloaded by the scent. But a good dog that has "alerted" to big and small quantities is a great assett. I am not sure if all dogs are certified on "Oxy" just yet but they need to be. If you have a prescription then your ok, but if you have 3000 tablets then you either have a bad neck ache or your up to no good. I see an issue with the mass presence of law at any given time. But the dog is always welcome in my eyes. If your breaking the law then don't go where your going to be caught. I got popped for fireworks out there a few years ago. I didn't badge my way out of it. I simply told the officer who I was as I got my wallet and he confiscated my fireworks and let me off with a warning. I would have taken the ticket if issued as I was knowingly breaking the law. So in short, I would rather have the police presence there and deal with a longer wait time then not have them there if needed. If your know your rights and they ask you to search and you say no! Then unless the dog "alerts" they have no authority to hold you any longer than what their scope allows them to do. And by them stopping you, you are technically under arrest. But allowed until they complete their initial line of questioning. Ok, off my soap box......NEXT

I like the 2, not sure if I will get the 3 just yet. I really like the wifi and hope it comes out soon for the andriod phone. I have been using it alot when at the races and sticking it on Tonys truggy.

Post it up on glamisdunes.com and put more pictures on there as well. If this is the route you want then stay with it. A VW powered car will leave you disappionted if your looking for a long travel car. This frame is probably tabbed for a mendeola and a LS motor. Both big dollar items. Then you still need the suspension components and shocks. Again all big dollar parts. But once you get past all those then the car will nickle and dime you to death. It will be a very big headache and frustrating at times but once you put it in the sand and take that first ride, you will realize it was all worth it. Where did you buy it at? Does the owner have any idea who made it? Post up pictures of the front looking back and that should help you find the builder and this will lead to the finding of your parts.

We checked out the black sand beaches there last year. Have him take some shots in the green sand beach as well.

Got it solved, Called the technical support. Had me reload the firmware and its works now. Gonna put it on Tony's truggy and see how the remote works while he is out racing in the Lucas racing series this weekend in Glen Helen.

Steve- I just got the kit. I did all the updates for the wifi and the remote. I can get it all to work except for getting the video portion to work. It seems like it is in the camera itself. I removed all the wifi stuff and the issue is still there. I wonder if it is a firmware issue. I sent a message off to Gopro and hopefully they can steer me in the right direction.

The swing axel is fine. As long as it was built right it can handle some decent horsepower. The downside is lack of travel. Your not going to get much more than what you have right now. Have you driven the car in the dunes yet? You might want to try and get out on an early morning ride and see if the car even performs like you expect it to. That car has alot of potential but it will not perform like a long travel car by any means. Learning what that car can and can not do is the trick and just have fun with what you have. As far as syncing the carbs, It's not too hard but you need the correct sync tool. The one with the big dial that moves up, not the cheesy one with the ball that floats in a tube. Try a youtube search on how to sync them. Once you get the correct info on how to do them they are pretty easy to sync up.

Speed costs $$$$$. Call a reputable company that sells turbo kits for VW's. Tell them what you have and what you want. To go bigger on the motor it will take machine work. The cylinder walls and crank area all need to be opened up for a bigger bore/stroke. You can always piece together a kit but are you sure it will all work when put together? My father in law had a 2180 turbo. He got the kit from Carcraft and it was night and day from his old 1776 motor. It was so much fun to drive when the boost came on. I would try to go up hills on just the rear tires. It was a 2 seat Chenowith. Beam car with about 6 inches of travel. Do your homework on the internet before spending any money. Research other options for motors and make sure the frame/transmission/shocks can all handle the modifications. If not your just wasting your money and a season in the sand. To see what cam you have-- Pull the oil pump off and you can see the cam. The numbers are stamped on the face of the cam gear. By pulling the pump off, I mean take the entire pump out. Not just removing the cover and 2 pump gears. The entire housing need to come off. There is a part out there for doing this and the project is not that hard and can be done in about an hour or so depending on your mechanical skills. It might be a little tougher since your motor is mid-engine.

Me and the wife celebrated our 16th anniversary this week. We found a great deal on a flight and room at the VDARA so we jumped on it. We got in on July 3rd and checked in to our room. The rooms there are very nice, but the thing I didn't like was no casino so I had to walk over to the Aria/Belaggio or Cosmopolitan to gamble. The first night we hung out with Dave, Tina and their daughter and had some P.F. Changs for dinner. The first morning we were up and out of the hotel pretty fast. Had breakfast at Hash House a GoGo then off to the Valley of Fire. We were only there for about two hours, We had to make it to my appointment at the Las Vegas Speedway. There is a company there you can drive exotic cars on their track. Here are a few of the cars out there while we were there. Ferrari Lamborghini McClaren Mercedes AMG Ferrari Ferrari Porsche Porsche Audi A8 And the car I chose- Lamborghini Galliardo Here is the video of my 6 laps- That was a rush! Although I wasn't too impressed with the performance of the car it was still fun to drive it like a rental car and take it hard into the corners and hear the tires squeal. Later that night we met up with Pete and Anna for the Boulder City Fireworks. We bought some beer and got a few $5 footlongs, Pete got some new desert chairs and we were off. We found a nice place and got there while the sun was still up and got our drink on. The show was great and we just hung out till the place cleared out. The next day we went over to the Neon Boneyard. That is where all the old signs go to die. That was very cool to see all the old signs and it was a guided tour so we had alot of neat info about the signs and their history. After that we met up with Dave again and had a quick lunch and checked out his shop. The wife had a Massage appointment at the Golden Nugget so we were off again. While she was doing that I continued to donate my money to the construction of a new room or what ever they needed done with my money! We cruised the strip on foot for a few hours and finished up the night with a show at the MGM. We saw KA, second time seeing that one but it was just as good as the first time. We were beat from all the walking and I was dozing off at the end of the show. We woke up on our last day there and had breakfast at Cosmopolitan. That buffet was really good. $47 for two but if you go hungry it is well worth it. they had some great selections of Italian meats and Gnocchi. I have never seen that before in a buffet. Alot of standard selections in a buffet line but it was all great food. I finally hit a small jackpot on our way out of there to checkout of our hotel and head back home to reality. Our hotel had this cool display of small boats, I took a couple shots of them. I want to play with photoshop and see what I can do with these. Thanks to Pete and Anna. That was a great show at Boulder. I think half of those beer cans were mine. Thanks for letting us hang out with you and Anna, It was a fun relaxing night.

Dellorto carbs are getting harder to find parts for. Webers are pretty much the norm for VW's. I am not sure if the rear end can hold a subi motor/ radiator on just Marvin Shaw shocks ( I might be wrong on this). Also it might be too much power for that trans unless that is built up. Adding a turbo will definately wake up that car. As far as seats... If you get suspension seats you might have to relocate that steerring shaft to the top of the crossbar, I think you might have issuse with your legs hitting the wheel with the wheel in it's current location. A 1776 motor is not bad for that size car, Your definatley not going to be the fastest but you should be able to pull any hill no problem. Drop a 2276 in there and that thing will really move along. I had a 2276 in a 4 seat Chenowith and I made it up Comp hill many times with no problems. Oh yeah-- Carcraft is where you need to look for the VW powerplant improvments. And try removing the seat covers and slide some padding in there and see if you can solve the hard seat issues.
