There goes the gas mileage doing that!!!! I contimplated removing a leaf spring and adding air bags- do you think that would solve it?
-
Cheese- I am looking into replacing my stock rear shocks. Getting tired of the freeway hops at speed. Also kicking the idea of air-bags to.

two words---"bed space" We get slam dunk cases against some smugglers and the DA wont go on it due to bed space. Very frustrating on our side. Many hours and paperwork for NADA!
-
Pete- your getting dialed in on that camera pretty good. 3rotortrav has a sweet car, I have always liked that one!

Welcome to the wonderful world of VW's!! I beat the crap out of my 2276 motor and it ran for over 8 years. Take care of it and it will take care of you.
-
If you can afford it in the future, get the electronic ignition. Points and condenser are such a pain in the butt to do.
-
Does the motor have electronic ignition? If so the best way to set timing is run it up to about 3500 rpm or so, making sure the distributor has let the mechanical advance kick in then set your timing with a light to about 28 degrees total advance.

Do your homework with those before you install them. Some people have had no problems and others have had major $$$$ problems. Broken transmissions, even breaking frames at the lower control arms due to incorrect angles. I personally like having a CV joint be my weak link. $100 is far better than tearing apart a trans or frame. Not saying you are going to have trouble just make sure whatever frame your going to install it in is going to be ok with this setup. Check with the manufacturer of your frame. Alot of the failures I have seen or read about have been in high horsepower cars also.

A few of our agents are running in that event. I told them I would drive the van. These guys still don't learn that driving to vegas is much faster then running!!! Its a pretty big deal for bragging rights in the law enforcement community.

Unfortunately you have to break the motor in half to see what you really have. You can take off just one head and on the top of the piston they inscribed the size of the piston on it. It's on the side very close to the wall of the cylinder. Use a wire brush to clean off the carbon build up to see it. If you can see that then you can get an idea if it is stock or modified. Also just looking at the heads once removed can tell you alot. If it has been cut to a larger size and what valves you have can also be an indicator. Also, if I remember correctly the AS41 case is a mexican made case. Go to www.thesamba.com alot of good info there.

What a great weekend. Took 6 hours to get there and 8 to get home. Didn't do any riding the first night, just drank and hung out. Did a lot of riding Sat and Sun. Met a few new people from here and alot of regulars. It gets easier after a few times of seeing you all to remember who is who. I took very few pictures this time. My video camera didn't do good at all due to the fact that I brought crap batteries with me. Great time none the less. My friend from work had a great time and it was his first time out there. I think he will be back too. Here's my pictures---

wasn't he like 23 or 24 years old? shame he had to die so young. when it's your turn I guess you have no say in that part. But we all have the opportunity to tell everyone around you that you love them and care about them, don't let that opportunity pass because you might not get it again.
-
that's very cool. Being a guy I wanted boys also. But I have 2 very healthy and beautiful little girls! I wouldn't change it for the world!

I had towmasters on my enclosed and never had a problem. I went to a 16 inch wheel and got BFG's E-rated installed on it now.I am curious to see how it does now.
