Dumont Cleanup Details- how it works...
dinicolady replied to dunefreak's topic in Dumont Happenings
I like that idea Mike! You know our kids are gonna want to ride with you! Some more peeps could just jump aboard for transportation to an area for a group "attack". For convenience sake, I was thinking a couple of flatbeds strategically placed....like one out at comp and maybe another out on the flats somewhere, or even the S. pole area 'cause lots-o-trash blew out that way. Could save folks time hauling trash bags back and forth, and will leave MORE time for collecting trash! Thanks Tiff!! Pete may want someone stationed at the flatbed(s) to log the bags in. I can see you and me doing that, each at a different "station" if need be. We could keep a running list on a clipboard so everyone gets credit for their bags and the raffle tickets that go with it. It would be easy to tally the final count. As Pete put it, "We (DumontDuneRiders) need to be group that collects the most this year." -

I'm gonna throw out a suggestion here.... How about using mailing labels (Davey and I can supply) to stick on each bag collected, mark them as "DDR" and the screename (to help track raffle tickets, too many same first names on here) and then use one of the flatbed trailers offered for use as the designated drop-off spot for the trash bags. The trash bags will already be gathered, marked, and ready to deliver to the dumpsters. -
Niiiiice pics Ken!! Thanx for sharing

Yeah, I understood it that way. It was your reference to "old time cops" that reminded me of that night out at the hill, 'cause this guy was definately an old timer and really easy going! Nothing hard-a$$ about him.
-
Damn Craig, for the "RA" you came off very articulate and made A LOT of good points! I, too, agree with you "110%".
-
I agree with you 100% about them setting an example! HOWEVER, my hubby brought up a very good point about them being visible out there at all times, especially on the really busy weekends. If I, or anyone else for that matter needed help for whatever reason, the first person we'd be looking for is one in uniform and carrying a radio. In addition, I would rather they have unique flags, something bigger that said, "We are law enforcement" and not those tiny orange whips that look like everyone else's. IMO, those flags should also have a light for after dark. O.K., I'm done.....for now. off.

I must say, and I am speaking for my family, we have had more good than bad experience with the law enforcement out at Dumont. New Year's weekend, my daughter and I took off waaaayyy out passed the N. Pole and a Ranger spotted us out there, saw the daughter turn her quad around off the trail, onto a protected area, and merely wanted to know if I knew where we were. We got to chatting about trails etc., and he gave me a map of the Sperry Wash trail....anyway, I spent so much time talking with the officer, my husband came looking for us 'cause we were gone so long. Easily could have given me a ticket for being out-of-bounds. And about the "old time cops", they're not all gone. I don't recall which weekend, just that it was freezing a$$ cold, we were out at Comp hill with a fire going, and two Sheriffs on quads (4x4 type) came over to us. One very young, the older officer looked like Santa Claus. Anyway, the older one joined us around our fire to warm up. Most of us had a beer in our hands, he 'hung' out for quite some time, chased down some punk on a 2-wheeler roosting abandoned campfires, came back laughing about it, and stayed for awhile longer. Great guy, never said a word about the drinking, and I would save him a place by the campfire anytime!

Sorry about that! Even Cole made it an 'early' night, well compared to last TT anyway. It was good times, great conversation, and COOL peeps!! Was nice to meet the new faces/names, too!
-
Aahhhhhhh!! So, you have a personal connection. Hey Cole, I think I see a change of location in the near future!
-
The guys definately have an advantage over us women in THAT department!! :eatdrink021: Hey, keeps the seat hell of a lot cleaner too!
-
WOW Gerald, thank you for sharing this with us. Very touching! "I hope Omar knew that even complete strangers cared enough to do everything we could." We need more people like this in the world today! :eatdrink021:

I can't believe I'm actually agreeing with Mr. Cheese! We had a "run in" with a ranger over Tday weekend. Late Saturday afternoon, we're down in the wash, near the main road, watching the kids mud drag. Also watching this ranger chase some people out trying to camp on the other side of the trailhead (no-no zone). He then drove over to us, pulled up in front of my husband and started bitching about us being there and "didn't we see the signs?" Well, the path we took, there were NO out of bounds signs and we informed him of that very respectfully. He just shook his head and drove off quite abruptly. No ticket, no warning to leave, just attitude. My point is: After dealing with the huge crowds, idiots, drunken mayhem, accidents et all, I really cannot blame them for their frustration. And this guy was TOTALLY frustrated and attempted to take it out on us non-a-holes. I do have the utmost respect for these rangers, officers, EMT's and the like for being out there and trying to keep it a safe place to play. It's a shame too many "bad apples" make that job so difficult.

COOL!! It takes a little getting used to, but after a few trips you learn how to deal with it.

Hmmmm, I thought the stripper pole was out at comp hill!! Actually, I think you came into Pete's trailer on Sunday afternoon when I was in there picking out window decals. Didn't get an introduction, how rude of him!! :jester2: :jester2:

Davey can fit into a 34, but can't button it so does that still count?!? -
Yup, that's what we were thinkin'!! I wonder who the was that thought of that!

Some of my observations: 1. Dumont looks like a city from the highway on busy weekends! 2. Justin (sandsaw) likes to drive back and forth to Vegas to get a replacement kick starter. 3. Above observation comes in handy when you have a broken quad to go home, and a running Warrior to come back! 4. Minor suggestion...take the "For Sale" sign off the buggy as you tow it back to camp. NOT good advertising. 5. Trucks are for driving, not duning. 6. Having a camp grand-mama is a wonderful thing! 7. Danyell will set rude campers straight. 8. Playing tag or hide-n-go-seek at night, on a quad, with no lights, is NOT a good thing. 9. The catch phrase of the weekend, "true dat" 10. We had more fun on the off weekend trip than this crazy-a$$ holiday weekend!

Missed you by .......that much!! Bob was still there when we left and came flying up the left side of comp just after we made it there. Oh well. B)
