was this Win98 or XP i dont remember... sounds like Xp.. if so check your event viewer in the administrative tools and see what is casing the problem

Windows Movie maker is great for a beginner... Pinacle is stepping up... And Adobe Premier is at the top of the list... My suggestion is just start small w/ windows movie maker
