Mike and I got out and enjoyed a morning outside together with the dog pack. We hit up North Loop Trail Mt Charelston to the View Point.... Next time we'll go to Rain Tree!

Thank you Pete! This was the last time I saw Bert in the dunes and he had just finished helping @@NE14SAND Aaron, our friend, but someone Bert had just pulled over in the middle of an awesome dune run, to help and never met before that moment! That was just the way he was.

What's everyone got planned for 4th of July?

Well I posted the other picture and my remembrance of Bert in the wrong place But here is one form the last trip of the year. He had just finished being his usual helping person and pulled out our friend NE14SAND, I don't even think he had ever met him. We were in the middle of the last sunset ride of the season when Aaron's rail went down, not only did he drop out of the run, but he hung out and waited for the guys to get back with the truck and trailer... When I took this photo, he was very interested in what I was doing out in front of him getting just the right angle... when I showed him the photo, he really liked it and asked me to post it up for DPOM for July, to represent the 4th of July and America... So I saved it as he had requested... but here it is... I still want to have it for DPOM for July, since that was his request. I know I have one in for June, but if it's postponed, I want to change my pic entry to this one for July... Thank you... I didn't know Bert like most of the rest of you, I just know he was never unkind to me and was always helpful.

Thanksgiving 2008 Bert was always nice to me. He was always helpful and went out of his way to help someone. He helped me out several times. There was one time I was out cruising the dunes by myself.. I got lost and stuck... Then I saw the DuneTracker about 3 dunes over, I don't even know how he saw me, but there he was. First he helped me get unstuck, then he gave me a lecture on being out alone, then he gave me tips on how to find my way around the dunes, so I wouldn't get lost again. And then he took the time to lead me out to the flats....

He was always nice and always helpful to me. He was one of the good guys, even rescued me out in the dunes a time or two. One of the few genuine people I ever met. He will be missed, my thoughts go out to his family.

Pretty sure I won't win DPOM, but if I do, I would like to remove my entry and request that a picture in memory of Bert be on the homepage.

Badass trip to Grand Canyon! My pic are already posted in the Coral Pink section of Other Dunes -
Any weekend at Coral Pink is a good one!! My favorite place ever! Had a great weekend! Had a little bit of everything.... little bit of ride.. relax.. entertainment... drama, with one lucky son of a b!tch, little bit of campfire and time spent with the old man!!! Had a group of big cars that were having a blast tearing the sh!t out of the dunes... made it a bit rough for the rest of us, but they were fun to watch.. turned the little teeny hill by the corral into comp hill.. I think they were camped someplace down that road... that is the direction they came from and that is a pretty rocky road to come down unless you have to, I wouldn't do that with paddles... One of the guys in the camp next to us took a dive off one of the drop offs on Saturday night.. thanks to his 5 point harness and his cage and sheer luck, he survived his 60 ft drop with some bruising and a couple scratches on his legs. Weather was near perfect.. I missed all the rain on Friday love riding there in the rain!!! Some pics from the weekend

But now most of Coral Pink is closed because of the Tiger Beetle! -
All the trails are closed now so BLM can study the Tiger Beetle and see if its population comes back with no off road traffic! In my opinion.. 1st: I don't think there is enough off road traffic at Coral to make THAT much of an impact.. we have been there several weekends when we are the only people there!!! 2nd: We all know once BLM takes the land it is IMPOSSIBLE to get it back!!! We still have the dunes for now, but all the trails through the trees and the east fence line border are all closed. You will be cruising along and all of a sudden the trail has a sign blocking your path as a closed trail, then you have to figure out a way to turn around... Its not marked well, but we spent a lot of time turning around due to closed signs. I am very concerned if the signs don't work that they really will close the whole place down... And I got the name wrong when I sent Pete the picture... This is posted at the entrance road going up to the dunes from the Meadows:

The group is http://www.meetup.com/VegasHikers/ They already have this trip in the planning stages, but I have seen several people sell their spots as plans change. I am looking forward to this year's big adventure.. I actually have two planned with this group http://www.meetup.com/Sue-Bright-Adventures/ which I am a leader on... Heading to Antelope Canyon in May: And for my birthday, backpacking for 4 days along Kern River in Cali I have several smaller adventures to keep me busy all summer... everyone I have met on these groups have been awesome, and I have made several great, fun loving, genuine close friends. If you enjoy hiking, camping or anything like that I really recommend these groups, especially if you have no one to go with. I am not a big bar person, finding people who wanted to do things other then hang out at a bar was difficult for me, going alone is fun sometimes. So grateful I found these groups. I am never bored

I agree with Jim! more HOT dudes on their rides. Cause you know 80% of the b!t@#$ in the bikinis will never been seen in the dirt or sand.. ewe.. they might get dirty.. I think the "sand girl" of the month should be a gal who really rides or drives.. not just a pretty face. But more articles or feature stories about real duners, with real rides, not sponsored rides or the person with the most $$$. You know your average person that you could walk up to and say hello to... I guess I should have just summed it up by saying... Keep it real

If only I had the $$$ My ness is going to need a cage soon. Good luck Terry! Anyone who gets this will get a well taken care of ride! -
I will have to add to Ynot and Mineurbiz, but on the quad! One of those holy s#!t, adrenaline flowing, heart pounding, balls out, did I REALLY just do that?? run through the dunes.. I missed out on one of those this year, I almost feel like my year was incomplete. I never had the chance to really open that new to me rappy up and see if I could really handle all that power.

What a GREAT weekend! We were overdue for a fun Dumont trip and not a work Dumont trip! Great weather, some thought it was a little warm, but I quite enjoyed having it a bit warm, we didn't even run our A/C, but then again, we were out in the dunes playing most of the daylight hours. I got there Saturday mid morning. Unload, riding gear on, LETS DUNE!!!!! Sorry we had our own little fire pit, my dog Shasta gets a little around the campfire chasing the sparks and since I didn't know that many in camp, I didn't want to irritate anyone with her antics. The full moon made for a great night ride. The wild flowers were spectacular. I doubt we will make another trip out, unless we get some kind of cold spell, so this was a perfect season ender!
