  1. I have a Rancho-built 091 in my 4-seater with a Shortstar... two seasons no tranny problems. I don't drive it hard but I definitely dune it. BTW... reverse on an 091/V6 combo is for looks only.
  2. How well does it work on an RV-type stove? I hate firing up the genny to make coffee, this might make my wife less willing to leave my broken bleeding corpse in the desert
  3. Here's my lights... I'm the house on the right:
  4. Funny thing... I used to have the same avatar on GD.com awhile back... but it was short a finger: Coincidence???
  5. Wow. All I gotta say is... It's gonna be a looooong summer...
  6. We've got a small group going the 15th thru the 19th, give or take a day either way... for some strange reason my kid's school does spring break after Easter. Whatever, more sand for me
  7. I gotta say... I'd be a little concerned. Once part of that river is designated wild... pressure would build to designate the whole thing. Look at what has happened in Glamis. Closing off the north dunes was supposed to be the compromise that kept the south dunes open. Boy, that worked well... Remember: the econazis want to eliminate all motorized recreation... by any means possible. Fargin' bastiges.
  8. Report it to the PD. ASAP. You've got ironclad evidence, and methinks Bubba needs a new girlfriend.
  9. That's why I always lock my stuff up at night, and when camp will be unattended. Sorry you got hit.
  10. It's on the schedule! Glamis for Super Bowl, Dumont two weeks later!
  11. Sounds more electrical than fuel to me, just based on what you've written. Maybe the CDI is getting heat-soaked, or something's not making a good connection? I had an '05 Yamaha Raptor 350 that had me chasing a rough idle/stall issue for two years... through process of elimination (a very expensive process) I finally isolated the problem to the stator. What a friggin' PITA, glad I sold it. Anyway, good luck to you, I hope you get it figured out!
  12. Outfront gets another vote. Very helpful, nice guys... I spent some time rubbernecking in their shop over the summer, they know their shizz fo' sure. Keep in mind you can buy a JDM long block for under a grand shipped if the internals are grenaded.
  13. Wow! Wonder what it'll look like for Prez Day... that's our next trip to D....
  14. Go the weekend before T-day... I couldn't find Comp at night, nobody there...
  15. Yeah it's metric, I don't remember the size but it's an oddball. Root around on some of the diesel forums and you should find the specific info, but for my money I'd let someone else do it. I had a 6.0 Excursion once upon a time, I took one look at the filter and location and said the hell with it. IIRC the new filter went to the new owners still in the box. Happiest days of my life were when I bought that truck, and when I sold it...
  16. OMFG. The weather has been AWESOME this weekend... I have not had a better weekend in the dunes in a long time. I hope you all have a safe and fun Turkey Day, I wish I could be out here longer but oh well.... I have to come out the weekend before, can't get Thanksgiving off... but it's my birthday, so it's all good... I've just had one one of the best weekends I've had duning in a looooooong time.... Got a "thumbs up" from my almost-10-yr-old after shooting the dunes with her on the north side today.... it just doesn't get any better. I hate to leave but the damn job needs me on Monday. My wife got me a bottle of Grey Goose for my birthday... can you tell? anyway, you all have a safe Thanksgiving!
  17. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Always loved reading those articles, hope to see more of them in the future.
  18. I have a 3.5l V6 (Shortstar) small LT 4-seater, I prolly burn 5-6 gal/day with moderate use. 30 gal gets me thru a 4-day weekend (buggy and three quads), usually with some to spare. Last Glamis trip I had 10 gal left over, but then again I burned up my clutch on Saturday. I'd 2nd the thought about avoiding race gas, my life is much easier since all the toys burn 91 pump gas. Although I do love the smell of race gas in the morning...
  19. Everybody assumes it's the other guy's responsibility to look out for traffic. Hey, I have every right to be here, it's my hill too, I have my flag, I'm following the line, whatever... IMHO that's one of the best ways imaginable to end up on a backboard, or in a body bag. Bike, quad (qwad? ) or rail, ASSUME YOU ARE INVISIBLE. It doesn't matter who has the right of way, or who's supposed to turn out, or whose spotter is doing what. All that proves is whose insurance is going to get dinged once the avoidable happens. Lots of folks seem to leave their brains at camp, if you want to make it back in one piece be prepared to think for them. Anyway... my
  20. I didn't watch much of the debate (working), I listened to some of it on the radio. It sounded like a lot of finger-pointing and bickering, and pretty short on specifics. As for the elephant in the room (the economy), I guess it must have been invisible... Jeez guys, how hard is it to show some sack and just tell us what the f**k you'd do as President? A year ago I was McCain all the way. I'm still leaning McCain, but he's done very little to show me he's ready for prime-time. I'm really hoping that his "maverick" streak reappears sometime soon, all this shameless pandering to the far right makes me ill. As far as Palin goes, I hope that McCain stays reeeeeeally healthy... Obama seems to be a decent-enough candidate, as far as that goes. He is more moderate than say, a Gore or Kerry. That being said, he's still a Democrat, and bad things tend to happen when the same party has both houses on the Hill and the White House. See "Carter, Jimmy" for an example. The GOP needs to get back to its roots of fiscal discipline. We've spent the past eight years borrowing our way to "prosperity," and now it's time to cough up the vig...
  21. Thanks for the heads up, we'll be out there the weekend before Turkey Day... Those look nasty.
  22. Man... and I thought Ca DMV were a bunch of :clown: Well-reasoned arguments, well-written correspondence, and a reasonable request. Obviously a recipe for disaster Good luck to you, hope you can get something on the books.
