Vote: Dune Pic of the Month submissions for August
dunefreak replied to dunefreak's topic in General Chat
ok lets vote! -
It's just a group of hill shooter guys mostly from Cali.
-
I figured that was why, but if it's just some dudes going out with lights to have some fun on the hill all of that wouldn't be required unless they were charging money or had an official roster list or registration. Can't blame them for keeping it quiet though.

2015-16 Season first trip....tentatively scheduled
dunefreak replied to BearsZX72's topic in Dumont Happenings
Tecopa, CA. It seems to be the most accurate since it is the closet. -
I had a feeling they were this weekend because FE135 went out there late Saturday but never said anything about it. They try to keep quiet about them for whatever reason.

Sandcar #15? 16? lol

dunefreak replied to BearsZX72's topic in Dumont Happenings
It is never busy any weekend before Halloween. Should be pretty empty that weekend. It may still be warm. Watch the forecast as it gets closer. -
I haven't heard a thing.

Short sand car build live axle question
dunefreak replied to dirtflickarooster's topic in Sandrail Talk
Any bearing supply store will have the bearings. You'll just have to measure the diameter of the housing. Not sure on the rotor. I would have to guess 10" though. -
To early to schedule days off work for Dumont? Nope!

Last year it was still a tad warm, but we went anyways. I'm going to wait and see. -
Short sand car build live axle question
dunefreak replied to dirtflickarooster's topic in Sandrail Talk
It's too bad Larry is no longer in business. He would set you up with exactly what you need. I used to own a Short Sand Car. The downside to all SSC's is that many parts of his cars were custom and unique. You couldn't just go buy a spindle, a hub, or a center axle assembly, etc. You had to have him or his machinist build it. If I remember right the rear center section was very simple in design. It was 2 sealed bearings pressed into that center hub, a through-axle shaft with 930 CV flanges bolted to the axle. The CV flanges had flanges that the rotor and sprocket bolted up to. See the attached pic. There wasn't much to it. You're probably going to have to get someone to build you what you need unless you can find a SSC parts car to snag the parts from. picture from the rear section of my first SSC -
Riding those dunes at night would be super sketchy this time of year, not to mention HOT. Late in the day is the hottest time of day too. We did that once and it was really sketchy and never seemed to cool down after the sun went down. I think I'm gonna wait until either a break in the weather or wait it out a couple months.

Had to watch it again. Already jonzen.
