  1. What a disaster! So last month many of you probably remember this, Well we got that mess all handled or so we thought! I get a text from @EY3BA11 a week or two ago asking if I had changed the domain over to GoDaddy. NOPE! Well here's what happened. The company, who our domain was registered through, ACTUALLY FAILED TO RENEW our domain in August. When I contacted them to say WTF, the 30 day grace period was already up and it was long gone. There no getting it back! When they manually renewed it in their system, someone screwed up and it didn't actually renew it. I was furious. I had to hire a domain broker to get it back now I'm out thousands of dollars. It cost an arm and a leg to get it back. So now I am hoping members can step up to help cover the costs. Please donate whatever you can even if it's 5 bucks. I was going to scrap the whole damn thing, but I know this site means alot to many people. Below is the link where you can donate. Thanks guys
  2. We Almost Pulled the Plug on this site! Please Donate to Dumont Dune Riders All donations go directly towards the costs associated with recovering our domain name and maintaining the site. Donate with Paypal Donate with Venmo No Paypal or Venmo? Donate here. UPDATE! We have reached our goal to cover the expenses! Thank you guys for donating. Any additional donations will still go towards the site to cover our hosting/ maintenance expenses. What Happened? During the month of September, the company that was in charge of registering and renewing our domain name failed at doing that (even after billing us), therefore our domain was let go and picked up by a company that buys & sells domains. Our domain was long gone and we no longer had control of it. At that time, our only choice was to hire a domain broker. They contacted the new owner and were able to negotiate a price for us to buy it back. That price, however, wasn't cheap. It cost us thousands to get it back. I (Pete) debated on shutting the site down altogether. Changing the name was an option, but the amount of work involved in re-configuring the site would have been tremendous. I decided to pay the price and continue to keep this site going because so many people use it and enjoy it. It is a job I do without any pay and it often requires much of my time and energy, but I felt it was the right move to keep it alive. So now we have recovered our domain name and have managed to get the site back up after a long and stressful week. If you are a member or use the site, please donate whatever you can to recovering these extremely high and unexpected costs. I will continue to do my part and keep this site going for everyone in the dune community. I never feel right asking for money. In the 14 years the website has been going, we have never asked our members for a single cent, but this time we truly need your help. Even if it's $5, it helps! What else can you do besides donate? Stay active and get involved on the site. The future of this site depends on the people who use it. Social media is great, but it doesn't quite offer what DDR does. Many people lurk on the site every month just to read posts, get information about Dumont, browse the classifieds, etc. We are the central hub of Dumont Dunes. That is why we want to keep it going. So start a conversation on the forum or join in on one. Get to know the awesome people we have here as members. Got something to share? Please share it! Sponsors Needed It costs about $200-250 a month to keep DDR going. We have our own dedicated and reliable server that isn't cheap. Software and plugins constantly need renewing and updating. There are many things required to keep us online. Site sponsors help cover our costs to run this site and we only have a few. If you are interested in becoming a site sponsor, we offer affordable advertising packages to advertise your business on our website. If you have any questions at all, please contact Pete via our contact form or PM me. Thanks for your support, guys! Pete Greep Dumont Dune Riders founder/ site owner
  3. I wish we could make it, but we're skipping the sxs show this year. 😜 We have too much other stuff going on. I went last year for the first time in several years and it was fun as always. It brought back some good memories.
  4. Latest update: As we already know, the tower is fully constructed and ready for the carriers to install their equipment. Both Verizon and AT&T have signed leases and are deployed right now. The cell tower project manager cannot predict "on air" dates, but he is very optimistic for service to be up and running by Thanksgiving. Let's hope it all gets done earlier than that so we can see it functional for Halloween weekend. Fingers crossed.
  5. BLM has 19-20 season passes. I would guess the off-site vendors will have them pretty soon as well. Call and order by phone 760-252-6000 or in person at BLM Barstow Field Office, 2601 Barstow Road, Barstow, CA 92311
  6. Is anyone else getting the itch? I've noticed that cooler weather in the mornings on the way to work and it has me thinking about the sand. It'll be dune season before we know it. Better start prepping now especially since it's not a million degrees outside anymore.
  7. DDR presents the 7th Annual Buggy Roundup! Come join us on the weekend of Dec 14th! Calling all sandcars! Come join us at Dumont Dunes for our 7th Annual Buggy Roundup. This is a group trip for all the sandrail members of DDR. We'll be camped together as a group across from bathroom 10, just off the right side of the entrance road. This trip gives the buggy owners of Dumont a chance to meet each other and run the dunes together for a full weekend without the crowds. So don't be a stranger. Every year we have new people join the camp and end up leaving as friends. There is no set schedule of events, but Saturday will likely go something like this... 8:00 AM-?: Sandcars and Coffee: Pull your car into the center of camp. Grab some coffee, say good morning to everyone, and check out all the buggies. We'll do this until we get antsy to dune then we'll have a ~15 or 30 minute heads up until the first morning ride. Saturday Afternoon: The rest of the day will involve duning, maybe another buggy weigh-off, plus (new for this year) dune buggy trivia, and more dune runs! Saturday night: TACO NIGHT! We'll be serving up carne and pollo asada tacos for everyone in camp. (free for all Buggy Roundup attendees) Afterwards we'll host a raffle, light up a nice big campfire, maybe talk some smack, and possibly some ATC 70/ pitbike races...you know the usual dune stuff. Chad, aka dentboy, may put his projector up for some nightime movies, UFC, or something entertaining. We plan to set up a tent at the center of camp this year with some tunes and tables for games of flipcup! As you see it's very laid back and we don't put any expectations or tight schedules on the weekend. Afterall it's the dunes. Let's go have some fun. Want in? Here's what you need to do. 1) At the top of this page, click GOING... 2) Chime in on the forum topic and let everyone know you're coming. Add a pic of your car and rig so we know who ya are. (optional) 3) Pull up and park with the group. You know the drill. "Hey man, cool if I park here?" Let's see what kind up messed up circle we can create this year! We'll be camped in the same spot as last year across from bathroom 10 on the right side of the entrance road. It's hard packed and easy to find. FAQs I don't have a sandcar. I have a sxs/bike/quad. Can I come anyways? Of course. We love meeting and hanging out with all our friends from DDR. We only ask that everyone respect that this is an annual buggy trip focused on a gathering of the buggies of Dumont and that you please stay behind the cars on the dune runs. Different machines don't mix well when it comes to high horsepower machines. Also, when we do sandcars and coffee or if we do a group buggy photo, please respect that it is just for the buggies. Do I need to contribute anything for taco night? No. That is something we do to say thanks for coming out. If you have a side dish. margaritas or something that goes well with tacos, feel free to bring it. It's definitely not necessary though. We usually have a good spread. I want to go but I don't know anyone. That's perfect. Come out and make some new friends. Introduce yourself. Everyone that comes out each year is super cool. Do you guys run the dunes on Thursday, Friday or Sunday too? Yes! Although some only make a day trip on Saturday or pack it up and leave first thing Sunday morning, many of us are there from Wednesday until late in the day on Sunday. I (Pete) will be out there Wednesday night sometime. There may be others going out earlier and grabbing the spot before me. The best way to find out and coordinate that is on the forum topic. Post up and we'll chat about it. So don't forget to RSVP! We need to know you are coming for a food count. Hope to see you all there!
  8. The tower isn't scheduled to be operational until fall when all the carriers install their equipment. I love seeing the shifting dunes. Thanks for sharing the pics!
  9. The tower has been built. We must now wait until fall for all the carriers to install their equipment for it to be fully functional.

  11. Looks awesome up there, Brad! So I killed the DPOM for the summer months. It was more effort than it was worth and offered very little for the site. There was limited participation, plus nobody ever seems to have any off-season pics. Don't worry though, we'll get it going again in October as we all get back into the sandbox at Dumont. 🤟 Thanks for your continued support and content!
  12. Definitely consider going in November. The weather is perfect and there are plenty of groups to link up with.
  13. ha! Except this one was...uhhhh dude, I think DDR is done!
  14. Just got back from enjoying 4 days of riding and camping at Troy/ Kennedy Meadows in the Sierras.
  15. Some of you might have noticed the site was offline for a couple days now. I didn't realize until Monday night. I was out of town and out of cel phone range for four days so who knows. It could have been even longer. It seems there was an issue renewing our domain name and it turned into quite the fiasco with our registrar company. I am happy to say it is all cleared up now though. I thought it might have been the end of DDR because it appeared our domain was either hacked, stolen or transferred and picked up by another company. The good news is I got it back and it has been renewed. We're still alive. 😆 This was my screen on Monday night. My stomach dropped a little bit when I saw this. 😮 😨
  16. Yes, you can always buy a weekly pass from the machine at the entrance.
  17. Last weekend we headed up to Big Bear for the annual Crafts N Cranks event. 🤟
  18. The tower is already built. They are working on getting the service installed by fall. There's nothing to really update yet.
  19. Just a reminder if you feel like renewing your campfire permit before dune season. 🔥 Every campfire permit is good through the end of the year. Seams ridiculous, but it's technically required on BLM land and it only takes 2 minutes to do online. Campfire Permit Campfire permits are required for open fires, such as campfire, barbecues and portable stoves on federally managed lands and private lands that are the property of another person. On private lands, written permission from the landowner is also required for campfire use. Get your California Campfire Permit quickly and easily online! (readyforwildfire.org) Visit the BLM California fire restrictions website for more information about current fire restrictions on BLM-managed public lands. Follow wild land fire incident information and updates via InciWeb and CAL FIRE.
  20. Congrats! Where are you moving from? And welcome to DDR!
  21. yeah it's up and will be running by fall. It's all in that article.
