Has anyone seen this yet?

The government shutdown has forced the FSA to cancel Four Stroke Wars & Banshee Wars over MLK weekend. I hope they are back up and running so it doesn't affect the Jeep Jamboree over Prez weeked.

MLK 2019 Weekend: Four Stroke Wars & Banshee Wars cancelled
dunefreak posted a article in Dumont News
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is an American federal holiday marking the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year. This year it is on the 21st. MLK Weekend is never very busy. It is actually quite peaceful and most look at it as a "duners holiday weekend". It's a chance to escape the crowds and get some quality duning in without the added stress of traffic in the dunes. UPDATE: The Banshee Wars and Four Stroke Wars have been cancelled due to the government shutdown. There isn't enough BLM staff to oversee the event. A few things to keep in mind for MLK weekend 2019 Holiday Pass required: MLK Weekend is designated a holiday weekend by the BLM meaning a holiday pass is required. The holiday pass dates for MLK are as follows: Jan 15 thru Jan 21, 2019 Government Shutdown: Please not that if there is still a government shutdown, there will be no staff to clean the restrooms or restocking of TP, so make sure you bring your own. Please remember to always practice "pack it in/ pack it out" and haul your trash out. There will also be no fire or medical staff on site. Use 911 for emergencies. Yep, just pull the linkage off then unbolt that rear housing part of the case. The seal presses into the end. It's pretty easy.

Thanks for the update. If anyone can post a dune report on Saturday, I'd appreciate it. https://www.dumontduneriders.com/conditions/

There will be no medical or fire during the shutdown. Use 911 for emergencies.

Just a reminder about the government shutdown. BLM rangers will still be there on site, but there will be no fire or medical. 911 should still be used for emergencies. And don't forget, if you have dogs please keep them on a leash. Many people light off fireworks on New Years (even though it's illegal out there) and dogs always get scared, run off and go missing.

There will still be BLM rangers for public safety.

Agreed. That's not why we're not going out though. We already have other plans and the buggy isn't even prepped. Have fun, Mike!

Anyone going out? We're not. It looks cold. 😆 Looking at the forecast, the overnight lows will be dipping below freezing this coming weekend. There looks to be a bit of W, but it should be done by Saturday. Just a reminder to double check those water levels in the batteries, top off that propane, and bring extra firewood! We use a Buddy Heater in our toyhauler to help heat it up quickly. I also set it at the kitchen table in the morning and crank it up. It's like sitting around the fire without having to go outside. @b370 has been out there this week.

They are blasting on the mountain this morning.

ahhhhh so jealous! Those are the best trips. Peace and quiet and all the sand to yourselves. Congrats on the new ride! Very nice.

Welcome to DDR. Dumont doesn't require paddles, but it helps. The little bikes will have trouble getting up the dunes, but there are plenty of smaller dunes and less fluff they can play in at the south end of the camp area. (B14 area on the grid map below) The little 2 wheelers will probably want to stay out of the sand altogether and stick to the flats. The Little Dumont is a good option, but it's not your only one. Sperry Wash area is fun if you are limited on power and traction. You can camp nearby (E3-E4 area) and take trails down there. As for the RZR and ATV, just air down a little and you can go pretty much everywhere except the really big, steep dunes or razorbacks. Have a great weekend.

oh ok, it sounded like you might have been left for dead!

I'm still wondering why you were left behind. That wasn't cool. As a general rule, if someone in front of you breaks, you stop and help. Same goes for if you can't see anyone behind you either. Had I known earlier that you broke, Dan, we would have all stopped and helped you out. Steve mentioned to me at the north pole that you busted a heim and I was very confused. Why were we were all at the north pole and you were still back in the dunes broke down? I apologize for how that went down. I could only see 3-4 cars back.

Love the shots, Neal! Especially Alper's new logo. Thanks for coming out. Thanks for joining us! You're welcome.
