  1. Those fires are devastating. Wishing you luck!
  2. We have been using DJ Safety arm restraints in the buggy for years.
  3. I'd look into it but I'm out of town for a few days. Thanks
  4. Playing as the sun fades on a great day at Dumont. submitted by @sand chick
  5. In the past, I replaced my toyhauler incandescent bulbs with LED but never liked how they looked. It was way too bright and felt like an emergency room. Well I never realized I bought the "cool" LEDs though. So I picked up some warm LED bulbs and replaced all 20 in our toyhauler. I noticed quite a bit of difference on our last trip. They are much brighter but not too crazy bright. There was also a noticeable difference in less power consumption too. Great results for less than $20. Pic doesn't do it much justice, but the LED is the first one and the more orange, dimmer light in the old ones in the back.
  6. Can you believe the holidays are almost here? That means Thanksgiving is right around the corner! It is a week-long dune trip for some groups when friends and families gather at the dunes to prepare their annual feasts. This is also the weekend where you can catch the waterpumpers! What is a waterpumper? A waterpumper is a water-cooled, V8 powered buggy, typically front engine design and with massive or multiple paddle tires. Back in the 60's and 70's, the only buggies you would see at the dunes were cars that were powered by air-cooled engines, typically Volkswagens and Corvairs. When the Dune Masters formed in 1968, they were putting together V8 powered buggies originally built from cut-down car frames. Back then, water-cooled engines were new to the scene. They soon took on the name, "waterpumpers". The Dunemasters and Sandpipers Group will be meeting there for their 50th year of Thanksgiving at Dumont Dunes! Most of their group will have families with 3 and 4 generations. photo courtesy of Dunemasters & Sandpipers Catch the waterpumpers in action as they compete in their annual hill climbs and drag races. 7. The BLM is waiving the entrance fee on Sunday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day. Please note that this is only for Sunday. Whether you plan on hitting the dunes or not, be sure to display your American flag proudly and thank a veteran for his or her service.
  8. I don't know that you can get any channels out there without a satellite. Go to your profile then click the profile photo to upload a photo. All ya gotta do is ask. 😆
  9. It's all about crowd control. The leos take control before it gets out of hand whenever large crowds gather like this. In this case, it was more about them not having a permit for a performance on BLM land.
  10. I use an old skool Mr Coffee that makes the full pot with Peet's coffee. Not not just because my name is Pete. 😆 It's good coffee. We have a Kuerig at home though. It makes most sense. I have been thinking of getting the a small Kuerig for the hauler just because my wife stopped drinking coffee. On the other hand it's one of those things I don't really need. Seems there are many things like that these days. The frugal part of me keeps telling me to use the ole skool Mr Coffee. As far as the Kuerig goes, even at home we don't use those K cups. They produce alot of unnecessary plastic waste. We use the reusable cup that you fill with your own grounds. We try to do our part little by little. 🌲🌎 🙂
  11. UPDATE: Good news and bad. Construction has begun, but the tower will not be functioning until April/ March 2019. 😣 A gate was installed at the south end, up in the hills along the fence line just west of the Memorial Hill. A dozer was also delivered and an access road was made to where the tower will be built. These photos are from the project manager. He apparently likes selfies.
  12. If only they made them in 15". I've been wanting to put LT tires on my hauler for a while, but I'd have to replace all 6 wheels as well. Next set of tires I just might.
  13. The dust has finally settled and everyone has made it home safely from another great weekend at Dumont Dunes. Over 12,000 excited duners headed out to be part of the annual Halloween tradition. Some came out for the thrill of running the dunes while others were just there to party in the stimulating atmosphere of Dumont. If you've been going out to Dumont for a while, you are used to hearing about accidents, arrests, and medical calls when these many people get together on a big holiday weekend. But this year was different. Although law enforcement issued 68 citations, NO arrests were made and there were NO major medical calls. Even during peak duning hours when the dunes had a ton of traffic, our group noticed drivers and riders were very alert, using hand signals (the ones with more than one finger 😁), yielding to others, and just plain playing it safe to avoid any close calls or collisions. photo by Christine Potter These bird's eye views show how the camp area was loaded with circles of campers. Even during the day when temperatures were in the 90's, Comp Hill was full of people! Vendor Row was slightly smaller this year, but shaved ice and ice cream vendors stayed busy serving up stuff to keep everyone cool. When it came time to trick-or-treat, the camp decorations went up and everyone got into their costumes. It seems many groups try to one-up each other (or themselves) each year which is great! Everyone really gets into the Halloween spirit out there, especially the Romo Motorsports camp. They all dressed up in wacky inflatable costumes. Some hit up camps the old fashion Dumont way and a large crowd gathered at the 2nd Annual Trunk or Treat put on by Friends of Dumont Dunes and the BLM. It was much more organized this year and the organizers and LEOs did a great job of keeping it safe. Over 5000 people showed up. photo by Romo Motorsports photo by Brooke Ardenski photo by Heather N Siders The costume party continued at Comp Hill at night especially when a dance stage, complete with lights and music, was trailered over. It drew quite a crowd but eventually came to a halt when law enforcement shut it down. photo by Mike Colosimo Follow the Halloween Trip Reports and Discussion here... Halloween Video by @metalalien
  14. Thanks Eric. I appreciate that. I have a few other military buddies as well that offer the same. I'll let ya know.
  15. Call em out! Copyright infringement!
  16. Gotta do what ya gotta do! Nice. It also helps to ratchet strap the suspension down in the opposite corner from the failed corner. It's a bit safer. 👍
  17. Great info @Dive Bar Casanova. Thanks! Amazon ended up refunding my $ so I'll be picking one up eventually. I love hearing all the reviews though. Keep them coming.
  18. I'm a little confused. You found the phone? Or you know the person who it belongs to and you can't find the guy who posted it was found? nevermind, I answered my own question after seeing this thread,
  19. Nope, it's pretty much an off weekend. Nice and quiet. 👍
