Sorry our conversation wasnt entertaining enough for you. BTW, we weren't talking about who was better than who, we were just talking about riding fast and the difference between riding fast on a 2 wheeler or 4 wheeler. I wasn't pissed or anything you gals weren't being more social with us. We usually don't have different "groups" at PT's on Thursdays. Thats all. Usually its just one big group bs'ing together, not separate ones.

I feel the opposite about that. I meet more people that have degrees that don't even use them and make really GOOD money. It takes a good head on your shoulders to get that degree. On the other hand, it takes just as much skill or knowledge (just a different type of skill kinda like "streetsmarts") to make good money without one. I just don't feel degrees are the answer for everyone.

Hit me up out there. I will have them on hand. I will be selling them at my cost. I'll be camped at C6 on the grid map (right next to the cleanup festivities). I have a long bed crew cab D Max with a 34 ft Sandpiper hauler. Kelly, come see me. I may have a COUPLE left in the hauler.

You think I don't already know about that place??? Thanks Kristin

Yeah...um...have you checked the market for that lately? There are soooo many buggy builders clsoing there doors due to the economy and so much competition between all the different builders. It's almost impossible to compete with the big sandrail companies these days.

Mark, you are welcome to come park with our group. You know what my rig looks like. I'll be at C6. I didn't see anything about the gusts, but like you said 10-20 aint chit.

Yep, here they come with some graham crackers and chocolate now! mmm...peeps smores

Thanks Bobby. I submitted a request for a quote for some DDR flags. I think I might just hit up a vendor at Dumont for a flag this weekend. I already went out and bought a U.S. flag tonight, just need a second one to go with it on the other side of the truck.

I absolutely agree, BUT accidents do happen no matter how safe you are, no matter how many precautions you take, no matter how many years experience you have. I guess that is the risk we all take though in this sport/hobby. Its just another reason to dune in packs. The more friends and fellow duners around you, the more prepared you are and more resources you have in case of emergency to get you to the medical personel that can help you (ie: ambulance, helicopter, etc). Like you said, you are in a REMOTE area and that in itself makes it extremely difficult for crews to get to where you are. I think it is great that Don (camp host) volunteers his services and devotes his time to helping out duners in situations like this.

forecast for high winds??? Where do you see that? And even if there is any, WIND is gonna keep your family from coming out the one weekend that counts the most?

I think you might have to wait till next season.

dumontdude, if you are thinking of becoming a tech....do yourself a favor....DON'T. I wouldn't recommend it. I have made a pretty decent living from it so far, but I'd still choose to do something different if I could do it all over again.

I've got two fingers for ya! No thanks. I don't want to roll Pauly Paul style.

I'd like to pick up a flag or two for my truck (maybe an american flag and a chevy bowtie flag ??) Any idea where is best to pick some up preferably in town (Vegas)?

Uh...you were one of the ones I had in mind when I started thinking of the high end of pay mr.money bags. "If I ever!!!!"

Special raffle Prize for Clean Up
dunefreak replied to ynot's topic in Dumont Regulations, Safety & BLM
Hey Cat! Glad to see you pop in from time to time. I still remember cleanup two years ago with you and the rest of the S/U crew. Good times. Too bad you guys can't make it this year. You'll be missed. Have fun at the game. -
There is always a pretty good demand for technicians these days. Keep in mind that cars and trucks are becoming more and more advanced and complex. The "average technician" is slowly fading. Most techs these days require many different areas of skill and knowledge. Techs at the dealership I work at make anywhere from ~50K a year up to ~120K a year. It all depends on how skilled and experienced you are, how willing you are to bust azz, organizational skills, etc etc. Dangers: There's always danger when working with anything mechanical and with chemicals. Job safety is always something that techs must follow religiously. Otherwise there is always the risk of major injury (or even death) if precautions aren't taken. Thats with many jobs out there though. I'd say as long as you are safe, the risk as a tech is rather low. Benefits?: hmmm Ya got me on that one. Benefits are going to vary depending on where you work. ie: dealership, city or state job, independent shop, etc. At the dealership I work for we get 5 or 6 paid holidays per year, 2 weeks vacation (after 2 yrs employment), and well.... thats about it. Hope that helped you some.

I saw that too. I couldn't tell which rail was the one that was in the accident though.

I hear ya. It just sounded like a big part of your post was because our fees went up and that there should be more rescue vehicles and personel because of it. I completely agree they should have been better prepared. It's pretty scary knowing that if something happened out in the middle of the dunes that there would be limited ability for rescue crews. It's just one more reason not to dune by yourself. Wow, I actually agree with you this time! Although the camp host Rhino isn't wider or LT, it has been worked over some.... http://www.dumontduneriders.com/project_rescue_rhino.html I think Don's Rhino is probably a little more agile and can go some places a full size truck can go though.

I hope the victim(s) are ok. Sad to hear of any accidents. Let me set the record straight about the fees (like I have a million times in the past). The increase in fees does NOT pay for any extra rescue staff. You aren't going to see changes. The fee increase was to make up for funding that Dumont lost last year. It is sad to say...but I think that Dumont does not have the funding to provide medical and rescue staff on every weekend like the large holiday weekends. I think the holiday weekends abosrb most of fee money because the demand is so much larger on those weekends. I hope this doesn't start another arguement about the stupid fees. I'm just trying to give an inside look at what the INCREASE was all about. (to make up for lost funding for what we already had) If there was to be medical staff personel on site 24 hrs a day with many different vehicles could you imagine what we'd be paying then? It looks like the camp host was there. (the white rescue Rhino) Was he the one who transported the victim(s) or no? Regardless. I agree the rescue crew should have come out with better vehicles to assist with this accident. Thats just pathetic regardless of what we're paying. BTW, welcome to the site
