Since questions of the entrance road and user fee increase keep coming up I think I may put together something on the site (maybe on the passes or info page) about why the fees went up, what your money goes towards, etc. That way when people ask on the forum we can just copy and paste that text or just post the link rather than having to post it all over again.

So what? I got home form the bar and wasn't tired yet so I had to post up about stupid chit like user fees and the entrance road.

I posted that last night, not today. But either way I have been in a good mood lately regardless. Last night I was hyper as hell for some reason when I got home from work. Thats where all that came from. Maybe it's because it was TT and I was fired up and ready for some . Who knows.

1st off....here we go again but I'll continue to defend the BLM regardless 2nd....welcome to the site :beer_bang: 3rd...The entrance road, over the last few months of this season (in my opinion), has been in "above satisfactory" condition. They laid down some recycled asphalt in the summer of 07 because it was available and actually CHEAPER than the type 2 gravel that had been laid down in the past. Maybe you went down on a weekend that was before they ran the blade down it. Who knows. Either way, that layer of recylced asphalt was a good base layer for the road in the future. I'm sure it wasn't any worse than year's past or even worse...back in the day when you had to almost 4 wheel it to get to Dumont. My point is that you are traveling over a hundred or two (or even more) miles to get to an OFFROAD desination....why do you care that you have to travel down a dirt road that may be a little rough more a measly 3 miles? To actually answer your question of "what are we paying for"...that would be for BLM presence, medical staff, and maintenance like restrooms and road grading on the holiday weekends. The whole BLM spenditure breakdown is actually on the BLM website. I have the link if you would like it. Sorry if I may sound bitter, its just that all these questions have been answered in the past on here. You just have to spend a little more time reading and you''ll get your answers. Oh and the extra fees are not for better facilities or improved road conditions, they were actually increased to make up for lost funding that the BLM isn't getting anymore. So if you break your neck on a dune ride and need medical assitance on a weekend, you might not care you paid an extra 10 or 20 dollars to get in. The BLM is, more than likely, going to have medical staff there for you to get you to get you you safety.

I think you guys are missing his point that he will have a spotter. I don't think it's a good idea whatsoever to ride through the dunes w/o a flag, but if you are in an area where you have plenty of spotters I can't see how a ranger would really give you a ticket as long as you are being safe. Then again I have been wrong in the past on certain occasions about thinking the rangers were gonna be cool. :beer_bang:

While redswr has a tight strong hold on his 2 tickets to the gun show, he shows everyone how much of a sport he is and how it doesn't get him down no matter how much chit we give him. Although he still needs a date from what I hear. Desertskyz can't figure out how her boots stay on and still can't spell but she relentlessly continues to in the shoutbox just to let everyone know she is alive. Richardcheese apparently wears fuzzy boots but it doesn't matter cause he is on the new header of the forum and thats all that matters to him. Racer X watches patiently over at the hill while the hillshooters continue to duke it out as to what a bolt on really is and what time they should race. Gazlay43 just wants everyone to stop calling him "Gaylay". The stripper pole has invaded Dumont Happenings again thanks to tylerthehucker wanting to add a stripper pole on his rear fender. Meanwhile, Sand Saw feels he is being picked on because he wants to talk about places like the lake. Wingnut's short visits don't stop him from his continued shananigans with creating new threads like "last person to post wins". We have found out that a thread about absolutley nothing with the prize being absolutely nothing for posting last which will never happen unless closed, has exceeded in entertainment value almost more than any other thread so far (except the stupid azz 3 word game). Does that say anything about our members? Funniest part about it: The Alaskan is gettin cocky about winning!! Are most the lizards out there the fringe toed ones or are those mostly in a different area? I have heard that the lizards you see near or around Dumont are NOT the fringe toed/ endangered ones. Is this a fringe toed liazrd or no?

who exactly are you referring to? me and the group I go out with? If so then probably over somewhere in the neighborhood of B6/ B7 on the grid map. Swing on by at night (or whenever) and we'll have a few.
