  1. It's duniemonkie's birthday that weekend. We'll see about a day trip though.
  2. Welcome to the site, BAD SS. Well put^ All these new disrespectful youngsters make me appreciate old skool duners like yourself. I hate to shine light on all these idiots as if they are the majority of the dune population, they aren't...yet. It's just that I have noticed alot more people like this last trip. Hopefully these aren't die hard duners that stay into the sport like the rest of us. On a more positive note, I did notice the people that DO have some respect for others this last weekend. I noticed a few people out there like you say that give you a head knod or wave as you pass, kinda like guys on motorcycles on the street. They usually don't know each other, but there is still that respect there for each other, kinda like a brotherhood. They are the same people that slow down when they pass by you sitting taking a break in the dunes. They make sure you are not broken down. There was a group of guys in sandrails that showed this respect on Sunday. I was out in my car with Ragdoll MX and we broke down. They were slightly ahead of us just before I broke. They circled back around to check on me because one of them thought he saw me break. That was way cool of them. They then towed me back to the flats and then drove me to my camp. That's respect for fellow duners.
  3. Nick you have this all outta wack.... The lady at the DMV told me: if your trailer's UNLADEN (not loaded) weight is less than 10,000 lbs you don't need it. She said it could weigh 9500 lbs empty and 15,000 loaded and you still don't need it since it is under 10K empty. I know, it makes no sense, but that's what those fools told me. I even told them to make sure and she checked with her jaba-the-hut superviser. Jaba-the-hut said the same.
  4. We ARE doing something about it...like ISBB said....FoDD. They already have a "dune etiquette" guide along with some good info that was given to Western Maintenance at the pay station to pass out. I guarantee you though that none of these jerks that are causing the problems are even reading them. It's unfortunate, but we can't change the way some people are. All we can do is join forces and help FoDD anyway we can. Not only that, but everyone needs to spread the word to fellow duners about respect. Who knows, maybe it will catch on with some of these fools. The more everyone becomes involved with helping Dumont by being PRO-ACTIVE, the longer we can keep Dumont our favorite place to go. Michelle your first step to helping the situation is join FoDD. Sign up here if you already haven't.
  5. I should be leaving on Wednesday afternoon as well.
  6. I was waiting for someone to pick on my car's integrity. One thing I don't think most understand is how hard the car hit on it's roof. It not only landed on it's roof, but it had alot of momentum and force from the rear of the car that caused even more force on impact along with the angle of the hill was almost like crashing head on into a wall. I think this thread has blown up into an arguement that can never be agreed on...how strong a sandrail's cage should be. I think most cars out there can survive rollovers. There may be some that can survive the crash that Harry and Phil were in, but not many. If a quad or bike would have went of that same hill the way that sandrail did, I bet the outcome would have been the same, deadly.
  7. I think it was stated before....a friend of the family built the car along with Harry doing some things to help finish it up.
  8. I couldn't say. I haven't really seen any King Sand Cars go. :shocked2: I would go Tom Pro out of those two, however, if you end up buying one new from TP he has quite a waiting list right now from what I have heard.
  9. Well we take the finger dune to get to camp on the way back from the dunes. I don't see a problem with that. It is a dune and I don't see why people can't ride along the top of it as long as it's done safely. IMO, small children shouldn't be standing, sitting, or playing on it when people use it. You aren't gonna stop people from riding on it, so why would you let your kids near it? When we did and were roosted on purpose while riding the finger, we were only putting along the top very slowly. And BTW, it's 15mph near any camp, not 25. I saw very few people abiding by it this last weekend, nor did I see any Rangers enforcing it. :fro: :shocked2:

    VW Turbo

:shocked2: dayum take a breath, Nick!
  11. Dave Larson towed back that yellow buggy, Nick. They have almost the same car. :shocked2: Here is Dave's rail...
  12. Yep, what ISBB said ^^ Actually Tom Pro cars probably aren't the fasted. I just like the quailty more HD construction of his cars. Short Cars are one of the lightest, probably making them one of the fastest cars. It all depends on tire size, gearing, turbo, motor work etc though like ISBB said.
  13. No it wasn't. I t was just last month. ----> Sep 20 2006, 02:27 PM
  14. I don't think I'll be able to make this trip.

  16. Didn't you already post this in another thread?
  17. Exactly^^ I will never stop doing what I love because accidents out there. The majority of the time when accidents or fatalities occur out at Dumont is people misjudge the dunes. Rarely do people ever collide and get killed at Dumont. For the most part, everyone is safe on the big weekends as far as cresting dunes, etc. It sounds ALOT more dangerous than it really is when you hear about all the bad stuff. Yes it is a dangerous sport, but so is something as simple as driving to work. You gotta still live life. If I died out there doing what I loved, the last thing I would want is someone to stop doing what they loved because of me.
  18. I WAS gonna do that when I was towing Joe Duner back from the nroth pole as well, but I only made one pass close to everyone at the back of the pack of people. I just couldn't do it! We got some laughs as it was already anyhow.
  19. It was great having you, Mike. Good times were had! I'm looking forward to many more trips to hang out and go on some rides with you and everyone else. And I agree, there was ALOT of breakage this weekend. We helped alot of people in the dunes and alot of people helped us.
  20. exactly. It was a very bad crash and not many other cars, if any, would have been able to protect them in that situation. I don't think everyone understands the severity of this accident. I am suprised the car held up as good as it did.
  21. Thanks for sharing some info about them, Chae. It is very sad to see such a tragic thing happen to such good people. They will not be forgotten. I wish the best to you, your family, and friends through this tough time. Hang in there.
  22. That was some funny chit! I might not be able to make Vet's day, we'll have to see. Those that are going, go ahead and start a thread for one.
