The Dumont entrance road was in rough shape, but the BLM graded it as of Wednesday afternoon and it's back to an A rating and 25 mph. The river crossing has also been cleared since the recent floods. Although it is a little bumpy, it is passable for duners to get through. NV residents: Expect approximately 30 minute delays going south on HWY127 (from Tecopa or Shoshone) at the Inyo/ San Bernardino county line due to construction. There is also a few miles of construction on 160 near the Tecopa turnoff where it is down to one lane but it isn't a delay. You can also follow our Facebook feed on our social media tab or check the entrance road thread on our forum, http://www.dumontduneriders.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=9696&page=4#entry252466

It's almost time for Halloween! That means the kids (and adults) of Dumont will be dressing up and getting into the Halloween spirit. Expect to see duners riding and driving around all weekend in costumes and funny wigs. Some even decorate their sand toys and toyhaulers. Remember the Kia Hamster-mobile last year? Just wait until you see what they have built this time. Expect to see it at comp hill and around camp all weekend. Saturday the trick-or-treating tradition continues as little ghosts, witches, and who knows what else shows up at your camp so don't forget a bowl of candy! Most of all, let's everyone have a safe weekend. Take a little extra caution when cruising around the camp area and dunes. There will be alot of people out there.

Recent rains flooded the river crossing on Tuesday making the entrance to Dumont impassable. Some duners were actually stranded at the dunes and could not cross to exit. The river flow finally slowed and BLM had a crew on scene clearing the mud and rock from the road. The road has been repaired and is passable as of Thursday afternoon (Oct 22). MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (October 05, 2015) Polaris Industries (NYSE: PII), in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Transport Canada, is issuing a voluntary recall on model year 2015 Polaris RZR 900 and 1000 vehicles due to reports of pinched fuel tank vent lines. The recall is related to the vehicles fuel tank vent line potentially being incorrectly installed during manufacturing, causing it to become pinched, which may cause the fuel tank to pressurize and leak fuel, posing a potential fire hazard. Polaris estimates that the assembly error occurred in very few vehicles; however, Polaris is issuing a voluntary recall so that all these vehicles could be inspected and any affected vent lines fixed prior to further use. Polaris is taking this action after confirming that, in some reports, a vent line had been pinched during assembly. In those cases, Polaris has also received reports of the driveline contacting a pressurized and expanded fuel tank, resulting in a fuel leak and a fire hazard. Polaris also received two reports of small fires, but could not confirm whether the vent line was obstructed during assembly or during subsequent accessory installation or whether the pinched vent line was the cause of the fires. Polaris is committed to the safety and quality of its products and is swiftly addressing the potential problem and has taken the appropriate steps to prevent any future occurrences, said Michael Erickson, Polaris General Manager, RZR. Polaris is sending a recall letter directly to each registered owner of a vehicle within the scope of this recall. All 2015 Polaris RZR 900 and 1000 vehicle owners will be asked to contact a dealer starting Oct. 5 to schedule a service appointment. There will be no cost to customers or dealers for this product inspection and fix. Additionally, the company will provide information on the issue at Polaris Camp RZR in Glamis, Calif., Oct. 30 31, 2015. About Polaris Polaris is a recognized leader in the powersports industry with annual 2014 sales of $4.5 billion. Dune season officially kicks off Halloween Weekend at Dumont Dunes, October 30th through November 1st. It is the first holiday weekend of the 2015-2016 season. Holiday passes will be required so make sure you pick up a holiday season pass ahead of time from a participating vendor or grab a $40 weekly pass from the onsite machine. Halloween conveniently lands on a Saturday this year so make sure you bring some candy for the trick-or-treaters. It is always one of the most festive holiday weekends as duners decorate their camps and get into costume. At sundown on Halloween, duners transform flatbed trailers and pickups into trick-or-treat mobiles and go camp to camp. With Halloween being the first big weekend and everyone full of excitement to get out and dune, it's easy to forget a few simple things which could help you avoid a helicopter ride to the hospital or even worse, the white coroner van. Take a look at some of the tips on our forum, http://www.dumontduneriders.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=19713. They seem like simple, common sense but a refresher is never a bad thing.

Can you believe it? Summer is winding down and dune season is rapidly approaching! October is right around the corner and before you know it, Halloween will be here. That is the official beginning of the season at Dumont. Start getting those dune toys ready and buy your season pass now so you don't have a bunch of last minute stuff to do to get ready for the first trip.

The weekend of April 25-26 brought even more wind to Dumont as well as some showers. There were only a few camps out there and the dunes were super smooth. On Saturday a brand new Artic Cat with only 10 hours on it broke a belt in the middle of a bowl and required a tow. He was pulled out thanks to the helping hand of DDR member, dentboy. The wind whipped insanely hard all weekend but the dune gods were nice enough to calm things down and the rain subsided just before sunset on Saturday. It was sketchy weather all weekend but even fair weather at the dunes is still a dune trip and that's better than being at work.

Every spring the weather is all over the place and temperatures fluctuate from hot to cool. This weekend is looking like it may be one of the last cool weekends before the summer heat sets in. The forecast is calling for a high of 76 on Saturday and 80 on Sunday. There will be a little wind however. If you can handle 21-25 mph, the dunes will be baby smooth. A few duners are talking about going out on the forum so chime in if you think you can join in. There are a few things to keep in mind when heading out around this time of year. Due to less traffic and high winds, the dunes are starting to change and form "witches eyes" and steep drop offs. Also, don't forget you are in a very remote part of the desert. If you require assistance or medical attention, the response time is usually 45 minutes to an hour so take extra caution. Always bring plenty of water and never go duning alone. Dune smart!

The Dumont Dunes Cleanup has always been a rather large event over the years. It has included lunch, a raffle, and many large companies sponsoring the event. Due to the recession a few years ago, Dumont attendance just isn't what it used to be, therefore the interest and groups of duners going out are much smaller these days. Events like the cleanup rely heavily on dedicated duners and the BLM to keep them going every year. A cleanup doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to most duners, but there's more to it than that. Those who love Dumont want to keep it a place like home and everyone wants a clean home. Most dedicated duners would cringe at the sight of trash left behind and usually stop to pick it up. The cleanup gives the community an opportunity to give back at the end of the season. It's a grassroots, volunteer effort that represents how much we care about our dunes. This year the crowd was much smaller. There was no raffle, hot dogs or big party atmosphere. Instead there were hard working duners and BLM staff out there picking up any trash they could find. In the end, Dumont became a much cleaner place. GTP Offorad was among the volunteers and they spoke in depth with Katrina, the head of the BLM, about making some changes to make the cleanup an even better turnout, sort of like the old days. Next year they have plans to help sponsor the event and also bump the date up to a cooler weekend where it doesn't interfere with other events such as the Mint 400 in NV. GTP Offroad are some of the most dedicated duners we know and are always looking to give back to the community. We hope that together we can bring the cleanup event back up to what it used to be. The cleanup was still a great success and we thank the efforts of each and every duner and BLM staff that came out to help. Help keep Dumont the clean, fun, place that we all love and enjoy. It's time to give back. Show some support and come out Saturday, March 14th for the Dumont Cleanup. This event is provided by the Barstow BLM. They will have their trailer there stocked with trash bags and will be providing a large dumpster so we don't have to haul the trash home ourselves. It starts at 8AM. The earlier the start the better because it tends to start getting warm that time of year at Dumont. The location of the dumpster and BLM will most likely be across from bathroom 10. That is where it has always been. This year's cleanup is just that. There won't be a raffle or lunch. It is merely to keep the tradition of the cleanup going and keep our dunes clean. Forum discussion: http://www.dumontduneriders.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=20033

Friday night a RZR lost control near the top of comp hill and rolled several times. The driver, a 58 year old man, grabbed the door during the roll and inured his hand which required to him to have three fingers amputated. He also suffered a fractured sternum, fractured elbow, and a fractured femur. There was a passenger in the vehicle and no injuries were reported for him. Forum Topic: http://www.dumontduneriders.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=20019 When accidents happen we always try to figure out how they could be avoided or if there was a way to prevent injury. We don't know the specific details of how this man was injured, but it is always a good idea for those who drive side x sides and buggies to wear a wrist restraint. Wrist restraints prevent your arm/hand from getting caught outside the vehicle in the event of a rollover. It is simply a velcro strap that attaches to your wrist and usually clips into your safety belt/ harness clip. Shown below is an example made by Crow. They are also available through companies like DJ Safety.

Great weather, crowd, and sand! The weather was a warm +80° F all weekend. There were no Jeep Drags or Hill Climbs this year, but the Jeep Club hopes to bring them back in 2016. There was still a good sized crowd as usual for President's Day weekend. A few RZR rollover accidents were reported and the life flight helicopter came and went a few times. For trip reports and pics on the forum check this link out--> http://www.dumontduneriders.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=20016 And for all the community submited photos from President's Day weekend, click here, http://www.dumontduneriders.com/invision/index.php?app=gallery&category=15&sort_key=idate&sort_order=DESC&view_style=large

It's the last BIG holiday weekend of the season and everyone's been gearing up for it all season long, President's Weekend. We have a bit of some bad news first. The Jeep Club will not be hosting their hill climbs and drag races this year. It doesn't mean they are over though. Future events are still probably going to continue. So grab your holiday pass and hit the dunes. You can expect the usual activity and vendors on vendor row. The dates for President's weekend are Friday Feb 13 thru Monday Feb 16th. President's Day is on Monday. If there is any weekend to people watch and enjoy the holiday Dumont style, it's President's Day. Thanksgiving weekend started as early as Monday and Tuesday for some. Many make the entire week a dune trip tradition. Attendance seemed to be up this year with a pretty loaded up camp area. You can see from the pic to the left how full the camp area was. That picture was sent to us from a DDR member's friend who flew over in a small plane. Even though there were plenty of duners at Dumont, the dunes always seemed fairly empty. The smell of home cooked feasts filled the camp area on Thursday. The weekend seemed to be a very relaxing holiday one for many people. No major injuries or fatalities were reported.

The weekend started out with some windy, cold weather but it turned out to be a great weekend for most duners. Trick or treaters went camp to camp in costume for their candy fix. Vendor row also passed out candy and it was a hot spot as usual. The crowd and energy seemed higher this year than last year. The winds kept the dunes nice and smooth. Halloween is always a favorite for duners as it officially marks the beginning of dune season. This year the temperatures stayed pretty high until that windy Saturday morning. It seems the cool temps are here and dune season will be under swing as normal. Next holiday weekend is Veterans weekend, but that's not as busy as Thanksgiving. On Saturday March 22nd around 1:45 PM, a 2014 Can Am Commander drove off the top of a razorback dune near the base of the Superbowl near camp at a very high rate of speed. The vehicle, driven by a 44 year old man from Los Angeles, was witnessed to have flown 20 feet in the air and approximately 75 feet before landing on it's roof. The impact killed the driver on impact and caused serious injury to the male passenger who was flown out to a Las Vegas hospital. His condition is unknown at this point. Neither men were wearing helmets. The two men were of Asian decent and it seemed that their group was only there for the day since they had flatbed trailers. Most of their friends and family did not speak English.
