So I've been wanting a suspension 70 for a while now. My plan was to convert a pit bike. I had already begun drawing the triple clamps, swingarm etc, and was shopping for the right pit bike. Out of nowhere, this A+ pops up and I jumped on it. Looks like I'm gonna be building this thing up through the summer. I'm gonna take my time and try to do things the right way and save $ anywhere I can. I always try to do work myself, so I might end up having a ton of questions. I've already started collecting odds and ends. Saw a decent deal on these NOS Marzocchi forks and grabbed them: Which brings up the first question: Is there a big difference between running them as leading axle vs. trailing axle? I know the theory is that they should handle differently, but I don't know if it's noticeably different. Right now, the axle is set up as trailing, but I think I want to go leading just to gain a little clearance from head to tire. Here's the forks that are on it now: A little long, and not cycling very smoothly. Anybody know the diameter of the forks that originally came with the A+? I've seen them run XR80 forks, which are 27mm, but these are 30mm. (the Marzocchi forks are 32mm) The frame is already powdered, but the rear shock mount looks like it was re-welded afterward. Gonna need to be cleaned up and then I'll see if it needs to be remade. Hopefully it cleans up ok. If it needs to be done again it will be too tempting to cut it up to extend the frame a little. Next step is breaking down the front end and sending out the triples for powder. I already have some mini fat bars, and clamps. Just need some new bearings all around. Luckily the rear suspension already had a Works shock, unfortunately it seems like it was valved for somebody heavier than me. Gonna try and see if I can get away without new spring and valving. Stay tuned, and speak up if I'm screwing anything up...

Suggestions for the next DDR meet & eat (Las Vegas)
rushjunkie replied to dunefreak's topic in General Chat
raspadoo.... let me know when you're headed out to Vegas... I'll make it to THAT meet and eat peek. -
They all sell from the same few makers, which all use the same reverse-engineers. For the price, I think you'll get plenty of mileage out of them.

Will you take $70.00?? Sorry, I had to. Nice car, and good luck with the sale.

ISBB Jr sounds like a pretty busy summer project. Congrats!

I just happen to be looking at this thread with this picture on the screen when my wife and daughter walk into my office. Guess what my next project is????? Thanks Andy. Thanks.

Fukk. I couldn't read all the way through that. As soon as I saw that two other little boys were in the house with mom, dad and sister for as long as 24hrs, I couldn't even see straight anymore. Son of a b*tch. Won't be getting any sleep tonight. The chair would be the best case scenario for that guy. I hope he is found, missing some appendages and barely breathing. I'll be a little disappointed if he's caught healthy.

Helmet is a kid's Small. Goggles are "Pee-Wee" size. Bought this for my daughter last year thinking we would start her last season. She didn't start riding until this season, and of course she outgrew the helmet before she ever took it out into the dirt. She only tried it on twice, once when we bought it, and once when we found out that she outgrew it. $70 and I'll throw in the Scott Pee-Wee goggles. You pay shipping if needed. I'm pretty flexible with meeting, or picking up. Located in North OC/ SE L.A. County. $50???

I just picked up a nice little project for the summer yesterday. It's an A+ rolling chassis. Been on the lookout for one for a while now. So along with cleaning out the garage, I'll be busy building a regatta weapon. How about everybody else? Anything exciting? I'm thinking that some build threads might be interesting reading for the summer...

Ideas to keep this place alive through summer
rushjunkie replied to dunefreak's topic in General Chat
So a thread about how to keep DDR alive through summer turned into a "effe the Cali people, we're getting together"????? -
So I was able to squeeze in a short trip on Thu-Fri. I had just bought my daughter a new-to-her bike and she was anxious to get out and use it. Was just momma, kid and me. I actually parked and camped at the little dunes for the first time. It was ideal for my kid's first time. It was lonely out there. The winds kept us from making a fire on Thu night, but we just hung out inside the trailer and knocked out pretty early. Just took a couple pics: Moon rising over the hill:

After spending the last day and a half cleaning up after toys that are sitting around without use ( I've cleaned 5 carbs so far...), I'm vowing to make it out as much as possible next season. These pictures and stories are motivating me to slow down on work a little and enjoy myself. Only live once, right?

Such a nice bike. If I was in the market, I'd be all over it. It's priced where it's supposed to be too. -
This thing is brand new. Only used it a few times. It’s all aluminum. Works fine. REALLY rare and discontinued. Cost $250+ new. I’m in North OC. $120. OBO

Killer pics Pete!

Pete, are the mines the same place you can hike to from the Sperry Wash parking area down the road a little? I stopped there on my way out since it was still a little early and I could get in there since I didn't have the trailer. Took some pics, but I was too lazy to go to the end of the trail. Here's a couple from the DSLR. Also took some with my old 35mm SLR and B&W film. We'll see if those are any good after I spend some time in the dark room with them (sun was REALLY bright.). Nothing too interesting, and I haven't taken the time to edit them a little, but here:
