I am so sorry to hear that a young strong family man, defending our border, without much support from those that should do something about it, has lost his life to a low life. My sympathy to his loved ones and his brothers and sisters in the service!!

I guess I can now say something. Don and Ellen will not be the camp host at Dumont next year. A couple of us, that frequent Dumont, became friends with Don and Elen in the years they were there. On the last day of their stay this year the BLM came to them and said they weren't needed any more. What I do know is that Don was always ready to help the users of Dumont especially when they became stuck or had a medical emergency. Their life was cleaning the bathrooms for a small stipend. As I understand it there was an incident when some High Level visitors got stuck and Don took a piece of BLM equipment out to help them. He said that he had requested that no pictures be taken because he was bending the rules to assist. Somehow a picture was taken and published someplace, and was seen by the BLM. I can't say that was the only reason, but I also know that Don and Ellen were not going to be back any way, because of the way they were being treated by the BLM. I won't go into detail here. I am just disappointed that they won't be back as camp hosts. Ellen told me in a phone call recently that they will be at Dumont next season but not in the capacity of camp hosts, Don will be helping on medical emergencys as I understand it, and they will be assisting where they can. Possibly with the Sheriffs off or some other agency, I'm not sure yet, I was a volunteer for several years at Lake Mead as a member of the Search and Rescue Team and a boat opertor assisting visitors there. I was treated like a king and always told how much I and my time were so appreciated, I made many friends of the LEO people and other staff members for my entire stay with them. I think that is how it should be!!! My volunters coordinators were always there for me to see that I had what I need to do my job. I just never heard anything from Don or Ellen that they received the same and that is a shame for two great people that gave so much for so little. This may be old news to some but I wanted to share my feelings on this issue. Hope to see them out there this coming season.

Let me see if I have this right. If I spend hundreds of thousand of my partents dollars on a college education and undergraduate studies and become a renound researcher............... I can slide down a sand dune on my arse trying to make sounds?????? In my simple mind it makes more sence to drink a few beers and "pass gas"! That will make a sound for much less money! Gotta love higher education!!! :beer_bang:

That chick working the bull joystick had me confused. I thought the thing was gonna take off hella fast and then she just kept it moving slow and spinning for a while. It was like a blender for my stomach I guess. :worthless_without_pics: Pretty lame excuse Prez........You sound confused, besided the bull never spun......it ws the room. And at your age if you don't know what to do when a girl has ahold of the "joy stick"!!!! It's 'time to go on the wagon!!

Why would you have to keep such a thing a secret? There is a huge differnce between a secret and sharing more information than is necessary Equals 44 yrs. of marriage as of June 3rd...

It's all good, the rail is going to be fun. Thank Gawd I had the bucks to get it the way I wanted it and friends in the business that gave me a good deal!!!! It is now what I wanted but thought I could do things at a slower pace. Thanks for the good words. More of a shared story for someone that be looking to buy used. At his point I'm not sure if the guy that had it built by friends screwed him or he is just a "SLICKER". I'm leaning towards the fact that they were all pretty shady and stupid. Was told it only had 3 Glamis trips on it and it was built for his wife. Yup only used on Sunday to drive the old lady to church!!!! Look out ST Anthonys I'm ready and able!!! And also set up for several seasons at Dumont! Later!!!

Pics of what??????? My empty wallet???? The blood on my forhead from slapping myself for not looking closer??? The empty bottles of Bourbon from trying to drown my sorrows??? Or the 4 pictures that I posted when I bought the rail??? What were they trying to decide that you were on the board? If it was good I say no!!! If it is bad I say yes!!!!! :no_no:

This is my opinion only or (INHO) is my following statement!!!!!!!! If you are considering purchasing a used rail.............Make sure you know the rail, or the owner and the history of the rail. Take nothing for granted regardless of the feeling you have about the person selling a used rail or how it looks on the surface!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! To put is in the short mode, I got what I thought what a good deal on the little blue prowler that was on Craigs List a while back. It ran OK last season but I wanted to have it totally checked out before I took it to Saint Anthony's next month!!!! Primarily I wanted to have the tranny close ratioed in 3rd and 4th to help with climbing power and ease of shifting, Bottom Line.: Tranny work, over $1100 hundred , it was junk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Motor checked out too: Over $1400!!!!!Jugs were junk and circa 1970, 90 MM, not even available rings anymore. Heads were junk!!!!!! New heads, cam and pistons! Tires were weather checked BAD, didn't see it when I bought it!!!!!!!$1000 Nitrogen shocks were junk, who knew by sight????? $1000 for new Carerra Coil Overs! Studs for Wheels and Lug nuts were cross threaded, $100. I blame no one but my self for my purchase. I understand that when you get a good deal that you bought it and when you get a bad deal "He sold it to me" On a trip to Dumont I could have been killed out at the South Pole Meet and Greet when the steering came off shortly after a high speed trip from the North Pole to the South Pole. Had it came off during that high speed run on th end of full out third gear run ,it would have been really ugly!!!! On a good note, in closing, I now have an almost totally new rail to last me the rest of my old decrepid life!!!! Jusrt be carefull when you buy used equipment. :no_no: Have a great day and good luck!!!!!

quote name='SANDAWG' date='Jun 3 2009, 10:55 PM' post='178960'] That's encouraging to hear. I found what I used years ago. An old pair of larger needle nosed pliers that I ground a groove at the tip, inside obviously, on both sides to hold and not slip and strong enough not to bend. Now I have options?!?! Just tried my Harbor Freight Pliers. worked like a charm! [

A group " Senior Moment" I'm in for that!!!

RU, You've peeked my interest with you mentioning the Movave Trail. I was in the origional group based in Goffs CA. that had a handle on the area now taken over by the new Movaje Reserve. Over 800 miles of drivable roads and trails mapped , pictured and historical info. If your interested in more information on the area of the east Movaje I have a series of books that show the mapped trail and history of the area! Your welcome to borrow them if you wish. Look up Dennis Casbier if you want any information on the origional "Friends of the Movaje" Goffs, Essex, Kelso etc. etc. have a good one!

That makes sence. I forgot about sliding the tube back to reach the snap ring. A while back I bought a pair of large snap ring pliers @ Harbor freight and am hoping they do the job. Thanks, Pat

It's been 30 years since I removed the axles from a VW transaxle! I forgot if I can just take off the boots, side covers and the snap ring and take them off without taking off the brake assemblys, tubes etc? Time to have the tranny gone through. It will be simple if I don't have to take off everything first. Hoping I can just take off the shocks, the trailing arms and drop them down then pull the tranny. Tomorrows project! Know that I will need close ratio and a higher gear to make some of those St. Anthonys dunes!!! Sure don't have any extra horse power in my "sled"! Thanks.

Personaly I would get more trailer that you want or need now and then get the truck to pull it. It's tough to justify the $$$$$$ but whatever you do at this point it seems like you will be giving something up. Just plan as I did. This will be the only time I will buy a truck or trailer. It's with me for the duration!!! Plan for the furure not the "moment"!
