Found an alternator at cipl.com for $119 no freight. Not a Bosch but should be fine!! Got the cap and rotor at Butches in Vegas, a good bakolite Bosch one!!

Fuel cells in the sand are a bit*h. The seals on the filler get all fouled, for a better choice of words, up. Been there done that!!!! :poke:

Any body have an idea where I can purchase some foam to put in my gas tank to keep the fuel from splashing around. They use it in fuel cells so it must be available to buy somewhere. I have a lager gas tank than I need and want to run less fuel to save weight!!! Thanks

My alternator puts out 14 volts at idle. When I rev it up the volts drop to 6 or 7. Might need to rebuild it or replace it with a good rebuilt.who's the best source for these monsters? Also need a good rotor and cap for the 094 distributor, same as the 009 as I understand it. Just the chrome Mexican version with the faster centrifical advance! thanks

BP, Is that with the big coil too? I set them at .035, re set the timing to a total advance of 30 degrees and it seems to work OK. I can try to close them up to .030 and see if there is a difference. Thanks for the input!!

Hearing all kinds of opinions on prefered plug gap for Pertronix w/ 40,000 volt coil. Anyone have experience on a VW? I read everything from .024 to .045. I tend to want to split the difference and go with about .035 Also plug brand, type and number of choice? Thanks

Damn, if I'd know they were coming out I would have stayed. It looked like a nice day today when I left at 8 a.m. It was cool to hide behing mdthlfa's rig out of the wind and watch the dunes change. Needless to say with the wind we did have a couple cocktails during the day. Made the trip all that much better. Got my pertronix ignition today along with the weber kits to do the IDF's so will want to come out next weekend for a day and try it out!! Want to be all set up for Prez day weekend! We parked right next to your favorite spot. No sand just hard pan!! We were watching the birds try to fly in that wind. Funny as heck! some were only a couple of feet off the groung and we were waiting for one of them to do a body slam. Bob says it would be like a "Gooney" bird bad landing!!!
