Dune Pic of the Month submissions for October
Mr. Sandman replied to Dumont Dune Riders's topic in General Chat
Thanks Wasp. Back in the early 90's a friend of mine had an Ultralight that he brought out to the dunes every Thanksgiving and he'd fly around the dunes taking pictures of us riding below. Thanks Dunefreak! -

I recently put new E rated, 15" tires on my WW 5th wheel and saved the best old tire for a 2nd spare. Does anyone have a single 15", 6 lug wheel they're willing to part with? I'm in So Cal but my brother is in Vegas. Thanks.

What brand frame is this and what would you consider to be a good offer or are looking to trade for?

Pretty amazing. Watch the ground next to his helmet in the slow mo version and it appears that some fuel or coolant is flowing and starting to puddle on the pavement before he climbs out.

I don't know you Randy but you're definitely my kind of people...honest, hard working and out to do the right thing for someone you didn't even know. You knew someone had their prized possession taken and you set out to find the rightful owner. Your integrity speaks volumes for the kind of family the majority of the duning community truly is whereas the typical press for us is usually about some a-hole destroying our riding areas or doing something so stupid that we're all stuck with the same idiot off-roader label.

I received the following response today from one of the Assembly Members I wrote to. While I appreciate his response and that he voted to save our funding, we were still raped, lock, stock and barrel to the tune of $31,000,000.00. This state is becoming more and more of a joke every day. We would like you to be aware of the following article regarding the hearing on 5/31/12 in Assembly Budget Subcommittee #3 in relation to the OHV funds. Please take note of the end of the second paragraph. Visit our website at assembly.ca.gov/jones to read the entire article. Please be assured that Assemblyman Jones will continue to speak out against the raiding of the OHV funds and will stand up to protect the rights of the off-road community and the benefits that they contribute to the people of California. Sincerely, Gail Kramer – Senior Field Representative Thursday, May 31, 2012 CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE VOTES TO GUT OHV GRANTS PROGRAM TO FEDERAL AND LOCAL PARTNERS SACRAMENTO (May 31, 2012) - Earlier today, the Assembly Budget Subcommittee No. 3 on Resources and Transportation voted to steal up to $31 million dollars from the California Off-Highway Vehicle Trust Fund and transfer it to non-OHV related programs. This pilfering of user-pay funding is part of the “Sustainable Parks Proposal” being championed by the California Parks Foundation, other anti-OHV organizations, and California State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto). Assemblyman Jared Huffman (D- Petaluma) argued strongly in favor of the plan which he knows will directly impact destination OHV areas throughout the state including nearby units on the Mendocino and Six Rivers National Forests, the BLM Cow Mountain Recreation near Ukiah, and the BLM Samoa Dunes Recreation Area near Eureka. Assemblyman Brian Jones (R-Santee) was the lone voice on the committee that opposed the continued theft of trust funds monies.

I sent the following in an email to all of the assemblymen and women as well as California State Senators. This was a basic cut and paste of facts from the ASA Newsletter and I added some on my own too. I got the general auto email reply from the majority of them, but you never know if or how their vote may be swayed. As the State of California budget crisis continues to wreak havoc statewide, our elected officials must remember to vote appropriately on items brought to them in an effort to fund different programs and services. One of these items which you will be voting on this week will take California Off Highway Vehicle funds and divert them to fund California State Parks. In addition to being a scheme of robbing Peter to pay Paul, this continued shell game of moving funds from a program, that by law are to be used for that program, that is self sufficient no less, into a program that is not, is nothing more than thievery. With $20 million per year already being stolen from the OHV fund, the Governor now wants to rob us of an additional $21 million. The theft of additional OHV funding will have a tremendous impact on California OHV recreation and will result in a loss of ridership in grant areas and, in a short time, a disintegration of the state vehicular recreation area (SVRA) system because we will not have enough money to handle the growing need. It is preposterous to take more money out of a self-sufficient fund at the expense of recreation and not address the problems that got state parks into trouble in the first place. It is wrong to ruin a system that works and turn control of the grant money over to State Parks for discretionary purposes. Please don't raid the State's Off-Highway Vehicle Parks Fund to bail out State Parks. We have handled our resources responsibly and to take money from this fund is a open handed slap in the face of those who pay their off road vehicle registration fees (which fund the OHV program). The main reason the OHV program works so well is that those grants go to specific law enforcement, environmental, educational and riding opportunities. Forty years ago people realized that those within the Parks system didn't appreciate off-highway vehicle recreation. Consequently, OHV program was given some autonomy within State Parks, and an OHV Division was created. While the State Parks system didn't appreciate the OHV system, they have had no qualms about taking OHV program money to fund their failing systems. Because $20 million annually is already being taken from the fund, this year OHV program projects in California are already seeing a budget shortfall of which we cannot overcome. Please vote appropriately to keep OHV program funds from being diverted to the State Parks system and I will continue to vote appropriately at election time for those who support the OHV program. Thank you

Hey Travis. I'm interested as would be my brother and friends. We did the 3wheeler.org Imperial Invasion earlier this year and had a blast. I don't follow 3WW much anymore or trikefest but I've been during at Dumont on 3 wheelers for almost 35 years and 26 of those years have been on my 85 250R. I'm looking forward to a virgin sand summer dune trip but doubt many others will be in line for that. Looking forward to hearing more from you on this though.

Very nice, I'm ready for a summer dune trip myself.

Nevada DMV & their OHV registration plan effective July 1
Mr. Sandman replied to Doghouse's topic in General Chat
It used to be $21 for two years a few short years ago but increased to $52 for two years for a cutting edge California green sticker when Schwarzaneggar was in office. These funds are strictly for improving OHV areas, except when the state needs some money for other things like balancing the budget and keeping the state parks system funded and $25 million + is borrowed, I mean stolen, and we never see it again. Other than those annoying little issues it's a great program, especially going to the DMV thats only open four days a week now due to the budget, with the foreign masses and their relatives to register a vehicle. While I really do believe OHV's should be titled, I must say, good luck Nevada. -
Although this new Honda has been around a little while I think it would be even more fun, with or without paddles.

That's a deal and a half for the trailer but I think your a bit high on the truck. good luck with the sale. -
I'm thinking of converting our RZR to RZR S suspension. I know there are some nice long travel kits out there but I can't justify that kind of money. Does anyone have the stock S suspension, a-arms, axle shafts, tie rods, shocks, etc., laying around that they'd like to get rid of? If the price is right I'll take it off your hands. Thanks

New BLM Campfire Rules?
Mr. Sandman replied to Mr. Sandman's topic in Dumont Regulations, Safety & BLM
From BLM's website, although it sounds like a seasonal fire restriction that will be lifted come October based on past restriction lifts such as what was posted above by FE135. http://www.blm.gov/p...strictions.html -
I copied and pasted the following from another forum I frequent. Does anyone know if this is accurate or not? BLM strikes again in California I just got off the phone with the Barstow field office of the BLM. As of the 15 of May you need to have a camp fire permit. This now includes the desert areas of So. Cal. This not only is for camp fires but you need it for even a coleman camp stove! And you can only get the permit at the closest BLM office to where you are going. NO MAIL OR ONLINE!. So that means that you guys that come from Vegas to Dumont have to drive 100 miles out of your way to get a friggin permit!. Can you imagine what that office is going to be like on the day before Thanksgiving with 1500 trucks, trailers and rv's trying to get their permits so they don't catch sand on fire? It's a $1000.00 fine or 6 months in jail or both!. I think this is going to a huge cluster----. The women at the BLM office didn't understand why it would be such a problem because the permits are "free". Holy crap!.

Fines for season passes
Mr. Sandman replied to dunefreak's topic in Dumont Regulations, Safety & BLM
None of us like paying fees on top of the high taxes already paid but as it's already been said disrespecting the LEO's is not the way to go about voicing your displeasure. They didn't write the laws they only enforce them and as a person in law enforcement I would think that you should know that. Just because a few bad apples in the BLM and other areas of law enforcement have tainted the rep of all the good ones doesn't mean they're all bad. Similarly, just as someone who disrespects our riding areas and trashes and tears everything up doesn't mean we're all bad but we all get dumped into the same idiot offroader barrel. Think about it and we'll all be better off with better actions and words...and no, I'm not a LEO. Rather, the guys in the linked story below have gone about it the right way and maybe by doing so we'll all be helped and better off in the long run. http://www.dailybull...ews/ci_19974329
