  1. I got another diesel question for our resident chevy dudes: I got my smog notice in the mail...no problemo; I reset the programmer to stock, I unbolted the good stuff, and bolted back on the cat. conv. and the dpf. The DIC in the dash is saying I need to clean exh. filter. I read to do this, you gotta drive above 30mph for 20 minutes. So after an hour drive on the freeways sat, burning up all my fuel, I sadly realize that it's not cleaning...that, or the ECM is stuck in this error message. This message was up when I installed the programmer, which makes me think when I return it to stock, that maybe that code was revived. One other possibility ...I had stored the c/c and the dpf in my shop, right next to the rigs( and it's fuel tanks) that burned. Could my problem be that the DPF got so hot, something inside melted, which is causing this message? I don't mean to sound dumb, but I don't know what is in those DPFs...valving? moving components? screens? anything aluminum(meltable)? i don't know I was able to delete the code and get it "passed" at the local smog station. My plan is to run it like I have been, with the programmer minus the dpf, but I'd really like to know if the DPF is actually fine, which it sounds like it's working btw, or if I'm gonna have to replace it Anyone got any ideas?
  2. I was coming around to he idea of just doing an air mattress, as money is getting tight, and low and behold, what do I find under the master bed....an air mattress and pump I spent 3 days in a row working on the outside...what a job . I got all the decals off, and waxed the whole thing. It's not perfect, but it's a whole lot better now. Now we can start loading it up with all our crap Here's how she looks now: Makes it look newer, in my opinion.
  3. great idea RR! Here's a picfrom my first trip of the season, holding up my phone while duning:
  4. That'll be schweet! What motor are you thinking about?

. I heard about the lunar thing as we went to bed....didn't even get to take a look...Awesome shot
  6. My wife has been wanting one for a while now, but we have our old bus that's been bulletproof, so why, I thought; but when we had our shop burnt down, I donated my 28' cargo box to become my new "mobile" shop, so that is getting shelving, cabinets, and some bigger tools mounted inside, so that will longer be available to haul the toys. We tried flatbedding the toys out, but we quickly discovered 2 main issues with that option: First, we live next to a school, and when we left last trip out, it was the time of day when all the soccer moms drop off their kids. With a lot of stares, we realized that all our neighbors, including the lowlifes realized we were away from our house that weekend, and they could cleary see what we have, so we were very uncomfortable with that. Secondly, it started raining as we left, right after I washed the bus and the rail...when we got to the sand, the seats were wet, and thats not cool. Needless to say, I have been persuaded that we could downsize a bit, and get a 5er, since I already have the truck to pull one. We started looking a month and a half ago. We settled our sights on a buddies stealth. He had it custom built in 2010, with granite countertops, bigger windows, 200 gal fresh water, etc, etc, etc. Better yet, he had the dealer deliver it to his house, because he didn't have a truck yet. He paid 56k cash, and never bought a truck. HE NEVER USED IT ONCE. 2years old, with plastic still on the carpet. We had a deal at 32k, then he reconsidered. A week later, he decided 33.5k was the price. I considered for a day or two, and agreed to pay a lil' more, but he wanted to talk it over with his wife. Another 2 weeks, and he called me and turned me down, thinking they would keep it. He is a good friend, so I understood where he's coming from; but what a bummer...We really had our hopes up. After all of this, work took a nose dive, which made these events more understandable, so we kinda gave up looking. Discussing the story with another friend, he told me another buddy was selling his. It was an '04, but he thought he wanted around 23 or so. We didn't even go look. Then my buddy says he'll take 15...My wife and I went over last week to check it out. I noticed the exterior graphics were peeling, due to UV damage, but the inside was near perfect. I mentioned to him we were looking for one with dual bunks in the back, since his has only one. No slides either, which I was hoping for to get a lil' more floorspace. We left a little discouraged... The next week, he called me and said he'd take 11k. My wife and I talked about it, weighed the pros and cons, and decided we would get it. Turns out, not an '04, It is a 2005 Sandpiper, by Forrest River, 38' fifthwheel. He also threw in his 22k hitch. We are planning on freshening it up a bit: New carpet, maybe tile in the kitchen, we'd like to reupholster the couches and window treatments. If anyone knows where I could buy the electric dual queens for the rear, please let me know Outside it needs maintenance on the roof, new tires, and we'll probably peel the graphics and rebuff the gelcoat. The best part of this purchase is the most basic need every guy has, I'll get my garage back, as the toys get loaded in their new home We are pretty excited about this, and have our first trip planned for September @ Shaver Lake. Here are a few iphone pics: We were blessed in this purchase as it was 2 miles from home, from good friends, and obviously, the price . We celebrated the sale by going out to eat with them last night @ Ookas, a Japanese hibatchi resturaunt here in downtown Riverside. What an awesome weekend
  7. wow. My memories of them go back to 3rd grade. Cancer is undiscriminating and far too often, unrelenting. Sad to hear
  8. That could be due to the socket being stretched out and not grounding, which I'm sure you know as a mechanic, but some people writing reviews may not . I've seen the + nub wear off of a bulb in a high vibration application too, which might lead to those people writing bad reviews...but I think they are all made in china anyhow... and most advertise a 100,000 hour life expectancy, for what it's worth
  9. Ahh dang...So sorry to see. Believe me when say I understand... Any ideas what caused it? We just got a $12k bill in the mail from the FD; took them 2 months. I'll pray it doesn't happen to you. Get lots of photos, and don't be afraid to fight a lil' with your ins. agent for structure, content, cleanup, and possibly living exp. if you need a hotel or something. Again, very sorry to hear...hang in there, it'll get better with time!
  10. I might be able to use a good lawyer...anybody have any reccomendations? The fire department sent us a bill for their services After writing a heartfelt thank you letter to all involved, it seems we are responsible for the 5 engines that showed up(of which two crews actually worked), all the fire fighter's wages, and even for the costs of the report. I guess when the state cuts funds, they have to make it up somewhere...like kicking a family when they're down Worse yet, they billed one enginge @ 11.75 hours....they were there for 3.5-4 hours total Needless to say, we will NOT be giving to any firefighter's charities EVER AGAIN!
  11. wasn't my intention, but That's just funny right there
  12. Besides swapping a radiator in the rail, I'm probably switching things up a bit with a fifth wheel soon, and selling my bus . Other than that, probably going to be getting my schtuff together around the house. Paint, new roof, broken A/C, etc. I'm planning on installing some solarpowered LED lights in the back yard, and with irrigation, landscaping, and maybe a deck off the back of the house. Having completed the playland thing, I bought a curbing machine, and laid down about 80 feet so far,but I need to wrap up the rest of the place already. Here is a pic of my Christmas time project: I suppose if I finish the yard, it'll mean no more 3 wheelie shananigans That's a demotivational thought
  13. my buddy falling in love with his new car
  14. A quick update: We had a follow up MRI, and we found that the bone is healing The docs are unsure if he will flare up again, as his disease commonly does, but a victory is a victory, and we are celebrating! We just finished his 6th week of physical therapy, and the results speak for themselves. We had his 5th bday party yesterday, and everyone was impressed with how well he's doing. We rented the BIG bouncer, with a waterslide, and it was a hit! It neared 100 degrees yesterday, so it was perfect. Even dad here took a few runs down the slide. I bbq-d dogs and burgers most of the afternoon. I think some of our family went a little overboard on the gifts, but I appreciate and understand why. Don't want to bore anyone with them all, but here are a couple of pics: We went to the Norco Rodeo friday night, a bday party yesterday, and hitting the lake today...it's gonna be a long week at work fo sho
  15. What did that end up costing, if ya don't mind me asking?
  16. So I already removed my radiator from the "minivan". It is spraying a small stream through one one the fins near the middle. Also, alot of fins have been eroded away from the sand bouncing off the fans. I was thinking I would head over to funco, and pick one up; but then I thought maybe I should repair it...It's a CR, all aluminum radiator. Does anybody know if it'd be cheaper to take it to a radiator shop and have it recored, or would it be cheaper to buy a new one? Hoping someone has some wisdom for me, so I don't have to drive all over finding out for myself
  17. Only got 3 trips in this season...not proud of that, but we had an eventful year . Already lookin forward to next season
  18. looks like good times Oh snap, I forgot about those guys: PRESIDENTS; Lil' dune buggy I LOVE IT!
  19. Congrats on the new cage; it looks great!
  20. Saw this the other day on the freeway near Long Beach. I think we should all ride busses to save the ENVIROMENT . This lady was lugging this poor bus so hard, it was huffin fuel through the pipes, but she had no clue she was the culprit. I bet she wrote it up for low power too
  21. Well.... I almost have the clean up wrapped up. What an unbelievable ordeal. Can't even begin to express how heartbreaking this is, but a picture is worth 1000 words, so here are a few: my first real glimpse at our baby, a fully restored 1970 KW, chromed, pollished, and bada$$: my MH damage: my dual MIG 255 Lincoln: Honda pressure washer: 80 Gal. twin stage compressor: Sheet metal cleanup... paint gun collection 2 porter cable sawzalls, and a brand new dewalt right angle blah blah blah: my grandfathers radial arm saw...memories Previously mentioned low rider rig: and multiple collections of aluminum, from material we stocked, to fuel tanks, to the old rig's frame...all of it, every bit melted into drips. Aluminum has a melting point of 1220 degs....it was one HOT fire! This is a sampling of my pics...too many to post, and too many tools to fully inventory, but this can give an idea of what we should've had insured. If any other tool guys out there see this, make sure you know what your coverages are. We've upped all our policies now, and would reccomend all do the same. We are doubting we will rebuild, as to the lack of funds, but some tools will have to be replaced asap to keep our operations flowing; and lastly, to show there is light at the end of the tunnel, my new dual MIG:
  22. I got the costco setup too. The new dvr can be monitored from a smart phone, if that helps you any. The night vision isn't the best, but for the price, you can't go wrong. As far as the 12ga; I'd personally go less than lethal: Just stake out with a pellet gun, and nick the little gangsta in the forehead a few times...more fun to watch him cry, than to bleed all over your new truck
