  1. Chevy's 4.8 was strong enough for me, but the trans. was the weak link. Just watch what kinda weight you pull, and don't be too proud to back out of it on a hill. If it downshifts to 2nd taching 5500, just lift the right foot a bit :ahhhhh:
  2. I had the same truck: 4.8 1/2 ton auto(ext.cab). I bought a 28' cargo box 4500 lbs. I had a sand rail, a quad, and a bike in it. couldn't have been over 7,500lbs. After 4 seasons of running to glamis, I was $2200 into a new tranny. Maybe a transcooler could've helped. Went and bought a 3500 dually, diesel, allisson :ahhhhh: No worries now. Also, that light little truck got tossed around pretty bad with wind, or passing trucks...something to consider
  3. Yah, it sucked; but I couldn't agree more :ahhhhh: . I wanted to encourage everyone to be legal. I wanted people to read and assume they wouldn't get the chance to "park it until someone else can legally drive it." I drive So.Cal. as a local, O.C. to Long beach to hollywood to the desert, Victorville to San Diego; and have seen more idiots and the damage they cause in 14 yrs. of driving, than most people have ever seen. In short, If you are exceeding your limit, please get legal; because the leo's have the authority to bend you over
  4. Accurate info but I thought I'd add an experience of my own: We call the weight police DOT's , or polar bears(the all white cars),or Commercial cops, and even camper cops(those pickups with the topper shell on them they take out on the weekends to go fishin and stuff) One time, I was caught in a raid(where they pull in every truck that goes down a certain street), and my vehicle was inspected. They red tagged, or put "out of service", my 6 month old peterbilt for some reason, and my trailer for a legit reason. I WAS NOT ALLOWED to have my repair guy come fix it, I was not allowed to call my towing co. They had a mandatory Towing service to get my rig off of "their street" because THEY set up this sting in a no parking zone. Alterior motive? Sure sounds like it. Maybe a kickback from the Tow service? Just thought I'd give everyone an idea of what power they have. If they pull you over on the fwy, or on a street with no parking/stopping...get ready to open your wallet. My tow bill that day was $1,000. :ahhhhh:
  5. Did you buy the same frame as their orange # 20 car? Called a "pro bro" model, I think They make a good lookin car! Congrats
  6. yup, something like that. :clown: Idn't it government motors?
  7. RIGHT ON !!!!!!!!!!!!!! My fence has been tagged about a dozen times along the side of my property. I can REALLY appreciate a story like this. My personal concept is to crawl out in my hedges one night, if I knew they were there, and use just the pellet gun, and nick the spray can in their hand . It would grenade paint all in their face, and then their "stupid parents" might figure out what their kids have been up to. I obviously have more than a pellet gun, but I don't think I could get in too much trouble if I got caught, with just a pellet gun. I figure if I was stealth enough , the wanna be thug wouldn't figure out what happened, as so I wouldn't have to worry about retaliation. Way to go man! I have a few houses for sale on my street, if you'd like to be my neighbor
  8. I have three tinted sliding window with screens; used, but in good condition. They are roughly 2ft. by 4ft. that I'm selling for $60 a piece. I bought them for my cargo trailer, but gave up on my conversion when I found my "motorhome". If anyone is interested, you can pm me and I'll try to return a picture with some concrete actual dimensions. Located near the 15 & 60 Fwy.
  9. :?: You know, it all depends on "what your definition of is ... is" :?: I agree about algore , but chances are, it won't stick. For example, how many people are calling him out on the "near extinct" polar bears, now recorded in record numbers? or the fact that we have snow in nearly all 50, being it's one of the coldest winters in the last 50 yrs. or so.
  10. Alright, I'll let you know if I end up getting it; I sure appreciate your offer
  11. Right on; I haven't found any info yet, but thanks for the link; I'll be checking that out :DDR:
  12. they have a rental spot @ the south-east end of the vendor flats, not sure what all they have? :rhino:
  13. I have a connection to pick up an '07 6.6 duramax engine with fire damage for $500. My guy states that the pwr. steering hoses blew, the oil ignited on the exhaust, and the whole top of the motor got fried. He tells me everything up top would have to be replaced, but I haven't seen it yet. I'm thinking about it for a "69 chevy short bed cruiser project I've been procrastinating on for about 5 years. I, too, need to "slow my roll", but this opportunity presented itself, and I was pretty sure I could trust the advice of some DDR peeps :ahhhhh: So how bout it? Am I getting in over my head? What would be the costs involved replacing injectors, wiring harness, possibly the ecm, and whatever the heck else chevy's got up on top of the block? I'd upgrade to aftermarket on most components anyhow; is this a deal, or too much hassle?
  14. I tend to over maintenance as well. A stitch in time saves nine, right? Thanks for sharing, good to hear it from the chevy man . Any ominous warnings for me about running biodiesel? ?
  15. ^Smart people Just jokin. Thanks for a final answer! So do you personally think running your fuel filter down to 0%, or 15,000 miles, is running an unnecessary risk; assuming you aren't experiencing any symptoms of a plugged filter?
  16. Wow , I stand corrected. I was always under the impression that the oil % was a mileage thing. I checked my fuel filter % on the DIC, and it's at 40%. So am I safe to assume it's actually metering vacuum resistance, and not just mileage?
  17. ? How many miles are accumulated when the DIC says 0%? ?Does the % reading actually monitor the vacuum, or is it a mileage thing like the oil % is? We change our filters every oil change, but occasionally 1 will plug. On the big rigs, a plugged filter is just that: low performance (low power) Never caused any damage, never saw a mpg drop; ran 2 engines to a million miles, with never an issue.
  18. I believe this is a preset manufature's suggestion. I'd run it all the way down to 0, if it hasn't given you any symptoms of a plugged filter. I've run biodiesel through them, and haven't had any issue yet. Personally though, I carry a spare in my vehicle just in case.
  19. My rant was for CA :rant_on: Don't know how it works when you cross into this :poop: state for gvwr rules.
  20. Just thought I'd chime in about the class A license requirements. I'm hearing about more and more instances where guys are getting popped for gvwr/ license infractions. the solution: go take your test for the class A: Please be aware that as a class A licensee: - you get 1 1/2 points for each infraction vs. 1 point for the class c driver and, -you do not get the priveledge of traffic school to keep your record clean. You are allowed more points, but your insurance doesn't consider all that when you renew with 1.5 or 3 points. Take it from this diesel dummy, you get a class A: you better drive like grandpa snail. 2 more things when towing your big old T.H. in CA: 55 mph(duh, I know, this is posted) but also Right hand lane on a 3 lane, or right 2 lanes on a 4 or more lane fwy. (not posted, but believe me, they enforce it!) Oh yeah, for the class A driver, 15 mph over the posted speed limit becomes wreckless driving, vs. 25 over for the class C driver, regardless of what kind of vehicle you are in. Happy motoring in the golden state :rant_on:
