  1. Hey Terry, The 4x4 thing is what i have been told, and seen a couple accidents that were weird. I am sure it depends on how you drive as well, and this guy turned back into the hill putting it off balance.
  2. That is a photo that Jodi took while Mike and I were taking the father and daughter back to their camp for help.... Remind me not to ask that group for thelp to. here is the video of the Wild Cat Crash... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AWCcDWEndI
  3. I tried to call TJ, and got no answer. last time i talked to him (a couple months ago) he told me his dad was running the shop. but that might have changed. ATV Cycle sports has the new Dynojet Dyno, so the equipment is good. That doesn't mean they know how to use it though. You need to see if they have street tires to bolt on the rears as the dyno will tear up knobbies. I looked around for a Dyno when i did mine and Pure Evil was the best option. there wasn't too many others that could do quads, or did quads. One place would do it, but didn't have tires. They were the ones that told me about ripping up the knobbies. If you go to ATV Cycle sports let me know, I would like to see what they do. See if their guy knows what he is doing or not. I think i am getting an autotune anyway as i think it's a better option. I would like to get a power test run in though.
  4. Go to Pure Evil, I wouldn't ever recomend going to ATV Cycle sports, they have a HORRIBLE reputation. Even known for taking parts one a customers bike and putting them on other bikes. I have heard of them renting customer bikes out as well. If you are going to pure evil let me know. I just put my Stage 2 cam in and kinda want to see if i can get them to give me a good deal on a check-up tune, and power test. if you have issues getting ahold of Purevil try TJ at 702-280-5954 or pureevilracing@aol.com.
  5. I saw a Ford Raptor in the dunes on my way back Saturday i think, it didn't look like it was off the ground though. I must have went by after i guess. that sounds pretty damn crazy, i'm sure that wasn't fun to be in either of those vehicles. Being strapped into a RZR, rolling then ran over sounds like a pretty sh*tty experience. Does anyone know the people that were in the camp that had the Wild Cat? That was the most of the BLM people i had ever seen, of course this was my first "official" holiday weekend.
  6. I did get a good chunk of the crash. I got after the initial roll, so can't really see what started it but i got a few of the rolls. I will edit it down. The guy driving did say the owner told him to take it. It sucks, but you have to know if you loan a OHV to someone there is the chance sh*t can happen. I don't think we met the actual owner during any of it, so no idea how they felt about it. It was a pretty good crash, and while there was some suspension damage, it did take most of the force, the cage, doors, and other important parts were all intact.
  7. Overall it was a good trip. suspension is so nice. I was meeting Doug, and his buddy Travis out there Friday morning for some runs. Mike was heading out with Jodi later after she got off work. I got up, hooked up the trailer and text Doug that i was on my way. They were a little delayed, but I headed out anyway. When i pulled in the LEOs were out in force with about 10 at the pay station. No dogs or anything that i saw. I have a Non-Holiday season pass so I paid my $10. Pretty sure that's why they stopped me. They asked about my tags on the ATVs, since I have an open trailer. No big deal, i have them, and they sent me on my way. I got to the dunes, and saw Doug and Travis were still delayed. I strapped on the helmet and went out, on my own, to take some photos and mess with the shocks. Nothing fancy since i was solo. I got some good shots of the bike with all the new parts, and found a jump spot to test the shocks. I got back to the truck to check my phone and Doug and Travis were still delayed and looking for OHV tags. Went out solo again, and found some cool ATV guys at the North pole. By this time it was afternoon. Finally, Doug showed up... and Mike showed up. Doug, Travis, and I headed out for a run, and Mike text me he wanted to go but i didn't see it in time. So we rode right by, i got sh*t for that all night. It was getting dark and I couldn't see, that's my excuse. Mike put some new LED lights on his raptor so we did a night run (don't tell my wife.) Those lights worked great and since i was following him i could see pretty well. it was good until his light switch wouldn't work, and he got lost... lol It was still a good run, thankfully the switch decided to work finally. Friday night, Doug and Travis came over to our spot and we hung out by the fire, and did the BSing thing. That was my first time meeting Doug, and Travis, good times. Saturday morning was really nice, perfect day. We all get up, and Mike installed some doors on a RZR. Get all ready and head out, Doug and Travis were still asleep, so it was just Mike, Jodi, and I. Got in a nice run and back to camp, where we noticed a nail in Mike's nice new paddle. Doug and Travis finally got up, and came over for run 2. Mike was trying to find a wheelie spot on run 1 and right at the end was able to find one. So we headed over there at the start of Run 2, just at the base of the finger closest to comp. As we were sitting, there was a Artic Cat, wild Cat that came by. Heard them go up the hill, all motor no worries. then... CLANK... BANG... BANG... BANG... OH sh*t, that's not good. We hauled a$$ over there and luckly the passangers were ok. Father and daughter, in a BORROWED Wild Cat. They got out, and we tipped it back up to inspect the damage, and it wasn't good at all. 3 tires down, Plastics broken, Front Driver's upper A-Arm bent with a big crack, Rear driver's upper link bent, and i think the passenger side trialing bar was bent to. The roll cage looked to be in great shape, not like a RzR cage. they rolled at least 4 times. Since Mike had the RZR he gave the dad a ride back to their camp (there were in the old man section at the overlook.) The father wanted to have his daughter at camp when he told his wife about the accident. So i decided to give her a ride on the Raptor, we were right next to the flats so i decided it was worth it to help the guy out. Once we got to the camp, the crew was all out, but the wife pretty much. they had Radios and called in their gang. We got back to the Wild Cat with part of his crew, and they decided to just drive it, with 3 tires (both rears, one front) totally flat and off the bead. Mike was pretty sure they destoyed the paddles for no real reason. I guess they finally took Mike's advice and brought over a flat bed to haul it back. At least the people were ok, but man that Wild Cat did not stand up to that crash. It was fairly low speed, and it looked like he either turned back into the hill, hit the brakes too hard, or the back end just slid out, or a combo of all. There was no reason to roll where he did and it was just a smooth dune, very random. I did get the aftermath on video, but don't think i got the crash itself. I have to find it. After all that we finished our run, well kinda.. lol. Got to comp and the nail came out of the tire on Mike's RZR and was going flat. Mike and Jodi headed back to camp. Doug, Travis and I decided to keep going. Travis was a leader, but riding a new Raptor he didn't want to. So i got my chance to lead. I have lead a few times, but not really a full run. It was pretty fun, and I think i did ok. There was a lot of traffic in the dunes, so i had to change my lines a few times. Dunes were getting SHREDDED. My new suspension was making me happy though. We made it to North Pole after a good run. I went from Comp, to Talladega, to North pole. We sat at North Pole for a few minutes, then headed back to camp. Lunch was ready... THANKS JODI! Later, JoeDuner came over, and we got a pretty good group with Joe leading and his Daughter on her new YFZ. That was a nice run, stopped at North Pole and all i could think about was needing to leave for work. SUCKS. So i took the flats back, stuffed all my sh*t in the truck and bounced. Made it back for work, and even made some extra money. More work tomorrow, but I had a great 2 days at Dumont. I will be putting a new cam in the Raptor before the next trip so i will have something to look forward to. I didn't get enough time, so I am already ready to go again.
  8. damn, that is almost exactly what i want... Now if i just had some money. Good luck with the sale. I will see what i can do, but doubt i can pull this off right now.
  9. hmmm, cause the info on the BLM website for Vending says something completely different. Good tax writeoff to go to the dunes... except you have to work the whole time. I don't see the flag guy paying $1,000, plus $35 a day to be out there on some of the weekends i have seen him. He has been out there a long time and i would think would know better then to waste a bunch of money. Maybe he makes more then i think though. The T-shirt place can't do that great either.
  10. Tecopa Rd. is much narrower and has a very tight section in it. I have seen many people take motorhomes, and big haulers through there. they are MUCH braver then I am. I think the hill is easier going Tecopa, but you still get the pass going up Blue Diamond. Depending on where you are, I-15 might be a good option. I only have a small 2 space ATV trailer so my trip is pretty easy still. Bottom line, there is a mountain range there, and you have to go over it somewhere, some how. Good quote i heard once was something like, "this thing maybe slow, but all the fast stuff is in the trailer." It's not a race to get there so be safe.
  11. i am using Sony Vegas Pro 9. There are a lot of Sony Video programs in their series. The Vegas Pro series is the higher series, i think they are on 11 or 12 now. There are many other programs in the same range and higher, as these are about $500 or so. Some of the lower programs will work, the main thing you lose is the number of audio and video lines there are. cheaper programs may only allow 1 audio, 1 video, and 1 text layer open. This can make editting a pain sometimes. I typically don't use many but the Sony Vegas will allow for almost unlimited amounts of each layer.
  12. i will be out there as well, but i just have a quad, not as cool and the sand rail guys. I might find a decent jump this time though, those can be cool shots. Just remember i am a 40 year old, amatuer rider, not Travis Pastrana.
  13. Cool, I'll be out there. Good choice on the Raptor, a lot different then a bashee that's for sure.
  14. Doug, I don't have a place to stay Thursday night, but i can be out there early Friday if i can fit into your group. Mike usually camps in the #6 area so that will be close for me get over there we he comes in Friday evening.
  15. Robby and the others that finished stage 6 (i think), got screwed because they gave all the others the +12 minutes because of the water... and Nassar got stuck. rules for the Dakar are all screwed up it seems. Robby could have, and should have, made up a bunch of time on that stage.
  16. is anyone going to be there early Friday?? I want to get there early and get some riding in on Friday.
  17. I got a gig on Saturday now... OF COURSE!! I have to work when i can get it, but i think i'm going to go out anyway Friday- Saturday since the gig is late.
  18. NV OHV . ORG is probly not government. if it were it would be . gov not . org. The National parks site is just wrong, as the new Nevada law does register OHVs and by July 1st, 2013 all Nevada OHVs are supposed to be registered. i was going to say the NPS.gov document is out of date, but it says at the bottom it was updated Oct 2012 which stickers were being issued after July, 1st 2012. So they have it wrong for sure.
  19. the trailer i was going to get is buried in the backyard of my buddy's and behind his toyhauler. I don't think i can get it. i could tow a SxS on my trailer, but i don't think my quad will fit in the bed of my truck now, it's 52" wide now and the wheel wells are in the way with the short bed. Unless there is a better trailer option i guess i am out till MLK weekend.
  20. i could probly borrow a big enough flat bed for a RZR and my quad or 2 if you want to car pool John. I am in NLV, but i am sure we can figure something out for me to meet you or something.
  21. i started recording it on the DVr, and watched some of the Youtube stuff. Those dunes are AWESOME!!. and so endless. Sucks for Robby, i think he's cool. he can be a d*ck, but i think his attitude is about what mine would be if i were there. they didn't show much of the quads, but it was all pretty cool. The big a$$ trucks are insane,
  22. i want to go just need some peeps to ride with. I am in for a day trip, as all the people i stay with aren't going. I am ATV only though.
  23. yeah, A home made rail, or any OHV really with no VIN can go to the DMV and get a Vin assigned. I would assume a home made rail shouldn't be too bad, but another OHV not sure what they do. If they just assign a VIN i guess it helps for future thefts as whos to say it wasn't stolen, frame powdercoated, then get a new VIN... and if a VIN is assigned, how is that applied to the OHV? a sticker, a plate, whats to keep that from being lost or ruined??
