  1. Did the install on the Arms and shocks today. Took me a while, 8 hours, including setting the toe, ride height, and bleeding the damn brakes. That was a pain. My back is killing me now reminding me how old and decrepid i really am. Had to run to Home depot for tubing to bleed the brakes in there to (autozone didn't have any). I was so frustrated with the brakes, pure clean lines since i had to go with longer ones. I had no instructions so i was trying to figure out how all the parts went as the arms came all in peices. There is a full photo album on my FB if you want to see some more photos. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.4261744015881.2162232.1054354861&type=3
  2. I hope i don't tip over now... the bike is 8.5" wider then stock with all this new stuff i just put on... the tires don't even sit inside the fenders, AT ALL... lol Sounds like a good weekend with plenty of riding... if you go for a ride look for me please... I will typically just go back out even if i just got back. I am bringing the spare bike just in case to.
  3. Awesome Pete. I am not packed yet... but i am VERY excited. Riding with Chad was cool last time and we can compare suspension... lol This will be only my second real time out there with the extra power and with the new suspension and my new flag I will be all set to tear some sh*t up. Can't wait to follow Terry in his car and see how i do. Hopefully he keeps the wheels down this time. and I will help out by NOT riding with him.
  4. "sigh"... i just got a call for work Friday night. so work it. It sucks cause I want to go and ride, but i have to pay for all this stuff somehow and work has been kinda slow, with really bad timing it seems. I will be out there Saturday morning it looks like. with more of a day trip feel i guess. Hoping Pete goes for sure, cause I know he will ride on Sunday, hopefully others will to. one day of riding isn't going to be enough for me i know that. My shocks are on the Fedex truck for delivery, and hopefully they will deliver the A-Arms tomorrow.
  5. Pick ME, PICK ME... I am planning on going late Thursday - Sunday. Going to be SUPER excited all week. My New suspension should all be here by Monday. The extended rear axle is on, and i will have fun testing out the wider stance, Long travel, and new shocks.
  6. That second to last photo is awesome... good POTM for next month.
  7. It's crazy how the forcast changes out there... and how they aren't very accurate. Wind sucks in camp, but i do like smooth dunes. anyone going this weekend will want a little wind anyway with the conditions the T-day riders left it in.
  8. There isn't too much patrols out there on off weekends, there probly won't be anybody to check for stickers. I know guys that never used to get them at all. I hope you have a paddle tire for the bike. I bet it's a pain in the a$$ to ride a bike out there with out a paddle.
  9. here is the link for the NV stickers... http://nvohv.com/ here is the link for the post i made to help folks out: http://www.dumontduneriders.com/invision/index.php?showtopic=17681 if you have questions let me know. I jumped through a few of the hoops early and I know a few others have them now to. BTW, the OHV stickers are HUGE... lol Almost the size of a motorcycle license plate. We are going out next weekend. Terry and I, and some others (not sure who all confirmed) So if you want a warm up run, we will be there. I live in North Vegas to, so we can head out at the same time.
  10. halloween is different with the crowds... NYE might be similar. If you are out doing stupid stuff, then they are going to mess with you. If you just hanging out and riding then it's all good. You must have talked to people that got busted for something at the gate.. that's cool. they dont need to come back. lol I had a lot of friends out there for halloween and non of them seemed to really have any issues.
  11. Ok i have to say it... maybe she's looking for a "riding Partner." I wasn't going to say anything about the other thread... lol
  12. @Steve... you can place a logo or image on top of the video in the corner or something. I know you use a different program then i do but i know it's easy with Sony Vegas, so i'm guessing it's easy with your program to. Maybe i should do that to?? Guess i need to design/ create a dune Videos logo.
  13. I say the rail, in this case, holds more responsiblity because they have the speed and power to kill someone. This is based on i think the rail driver made a stupid desicsion, in this case. I am a believer though that people will tend to blame the rail driver as they tend to live the bike rider does not. I am no means saying it's always the rail's fault. I do think it would be kinda hard to miss (see and/or hear) a sand rail hauling a$$ toward me, but tunnel vision happens to all of us.
  14. thanks for straightening me out Pat... I just didn't want to see a big battle start here on the forum from different sides with people getting to blaming. stating what everyone saw i think is important. I have learned a great lesson about what to watch for whenever riding in that area. Not the way i want to learn but.... To me the rail driver has the most responsiblity, with traffic out around comp and the general flow there. No one is expecting a rail to come wheelie accross the flats, and the rail driver should know it's just not a safe place to do such a thing. i have a vision of the rail going like 60-80mph flying across. just so people know i take drinking and driving and stupid acts seriously so if we are camped together and people start doing stupid sh*t, don't be surprised if I leave. I don't want to be in a camp where someone gets killed, or kills someone. If have to be the d*ck and say what the fk are you doing then so be it. if you don't like me after, that's fine, especially if you are alive the next day to be pissed off about it. I am interested to see what the rules/ laws are with this. it's like driving a car on the street a little i guess?? if tracy reads this... I am really sorry i was infront of you on that dune ride we did...
  15. i am sure we can find room a girl in the camp...
  16. That view from behind the heal guard makes it hard to see down. There is no true right answer of course, but i like to see the bottom of the front tire in the sand. Not sure that's even possible anyway with the nurf bars on there. I've gotten to where i like to have something show infront of the camera, like the visor or something. for reference. That sucks the video card is giving issues. hopefully you have a fix for it. that vibration is a killer for the cameras. it's hard to get the Gopro to translate what a jump really looks like, or feels like, unless you are balls out crazy jumping. I pretty jump about the max i think i ever really will now, and it's nothing compared to what the supercross guys do every lap.
  17. I don't think it's fair to anyone to make this a blame game. I am sure the buggy driver didn't plan on hitting the rider. Unless the buggy driver was drunk, or the rider for that matter. there is no direct right of way out there and it's up to all of us to be aware and and diligent as possible. These are accidents, and while that doesn't make anyone directly feel better, it is an accident and we can't go into the blame game as it makes all parties suffer that much more. Even the witnesses, I can't imaging having a photo of the accident, or sitting next to it as it happened.
  18. I just use the mount on top of my helmet for most of my video, and the video i took backwards was from that same mount. one other mount that i have, that i like, is a mount on the bottom of the airbox for a rear facing shot. The camera hits the rear shock/ link so i don't use it much now. I have some video posted from it though. You see the rear tires, sprocket and brakes. its a great sand kick up view from the paddles. It's always a good idea to secure the Gopro to a second point. I need to do something, but haven't yet.
  19. I never like hearing about accidents, injuries, and deaths out there. Very sad for all involved.
  20. I have a few videos with the Gopro mounted backwards on my helmet, it works fine. Just different angle and when you move your head around it looks werd. One of my youttube Dumont videos has video taken this way though, so it is usable. I have a flat mount stuck on the back upright part of my heal guards. I have tusk heal guards with a flat surface. I tried using the crappy Gopro seat post mount and the tire hit it so i just said screw it and stuck the mount on there. It's not that noticeable, and for me the shots are worth it. @Pete... I dented a wheel on a rock at Apex so i dont like it... LOL. I am sand addicted really though. plus i'm lazy and don't want to change my tires.
  21. i would just go by a finger and call that good for sand for the kids. going over in the 13, 14 area is pretty scetchy for soft sand. even if you don't mind, why risk it. The fingers are the best sand, but depends on traffic to. I love to ride along the finger and stay off the flats. Looks like i am going to just call it a full weekend and go Thursday - sunday. I doubt my shocks will be in no matter what by then so no point in waiting for them. The wife seems to like me out of the house, and was asking my why i wouldn't just go all weekend. When i said for work, she still said just go. Not sure if that is good, or bad.
  22. i never use the 60fps, it just isn't worth it. I had to use Quicktime to get the 60fps play, window media doesnt play it right, and it gets confused. My editing program didn't have an issue with the 60fps, but either way i don't think it's worth it. try using quicktime for anything 60fps though, or a different program. I had an issue with my Gopro when i mounted it to the bike where the vibration was so bad it would mess with the video card. I am guessing that since it was mounted to the grab bar, that was the issue. Too much vibration. Gopro actually sent me a brand new camera under warranty. I still get weird audio and shakey video when i mount the camera on my heal gaurd but i like the shots too much, so i just clip it out. I want at least 2 cameras, so i can have one on my helmet all the time for audio and just edit it all together. the MP only matters when you are taking still pictures, the video is controlled only by the Video settings, such as the 720 30fps. PS... Sorry you have to resort to riding at Apex. I started there, but it sucks now. I may end up going there when i get my new suspension on for a test run. but i also don't want to scratch up my new stuff in that sh*t hole... litterally.. lol
  23. I will camp with Terry and his group to if that's ok... I'm thinking it's time to take up the offer for Terry's enclsosed trailer as a bedroom. his car and I need to have a long talk after my last ride in it anyway, cause apparently it doesn't like me... lol
  24. the Raptor is lot tippier then the YFZ, I was already +2 in the front from the wheels i have but that didn't really seem to help. i did the front wheels and mohawk style sand tires at the same time. after i did the fronts the bike seemed to be worse for stability in corners, but maybe i was just going faster to... I think the combo of the tires and tippy raptor, along with my limited seat time is my issue. My last trip was pretty good though, just some random rear end sliding that i didn't like. I just get the mod bug and end up throwing money at my toys. I never had a chance to ride a 450 and compare for myself. Won't be a fair comparison after i get all the suspension on, not that a 450 is won't be good. That is $950 then to get the shocks set-up. I decided to go new, for the package price, and knowing what i was getting without having to revalve. I am 185ish, so i could run anything tuned for 175-195-ish so it's possible to find, but i would always wonder if the shocks were actually right. Houser suggested a couple places ( i am sure not in Vegas) to redo my stockers but i didn't really pay attention since i wasn't planning on going that way. To me the $395 is a decent rate. I know houser was having a Black Friday Shock sale to. not sure what that would mean for a price on just shocks.
