  1. yeah your real safe Terry, as long as i am riding on my quad I'm not trying to scare anyone off, just preparing if it was too be a true "balls out" run. I kept up with you in your car on my quad before, so I know you can go slow for rookies like me.
  2. The package i got is a black friday deal through Houser. I got the Stage 4s, LT +2.25" YFZ Blue A-Arms, brake lines, and brake line clamps all in the package. they offering it to everyone. I am guessing $150 per shock. how much does the receipt say the service was?? i bet it's the same price, maybe more if they have to put on different springs. Plus shipping. But that's not too bad, about $850 into the shocks. I have my fingers crossed that all this money is going to be worth it. I will be +8.5" total in the front and about +7" in the rear when i'm done. Arms and shocks should be shipping next week, I hope.
  3. I would just send them back to Elka. it's your best bet to get good results. How much did you pay for them? are they the right shocks for your bike? LT for the 450r and ST for the 450. depends on A-Arms. I was looking at some used shocks, but i didn't want to mess with revalving, and/or not knowing what they were set-up for. seems like so many that sell the shocks don't know what they are set for. i am sure a revalve and new springs will be in order for the weight difference. I got a black Friday deal on shocks and A-Arms (parts being made and powder coated still) and i paid about $1150 in the package rate for brand new Stage 4s.
  4. Better be ready for a "balls Out Run" these guys don't play around, and they MEAN balls out. I know one of my friends that used to have a car did a run with a GPS unit, and averaged 83 MPH, with a top speed of 104.
  5. sorry Pete, i have a tough time keeping track of who is going so i started this thread with the poll to help keep track. Yes i am selfish. I should have my full suspenion in by the 8th-9th, so i would be in for a day trip (at least) and some good suspension testing. I am trying to make longer trips this year, and less day trips, but my work schedule makes it a PITA. plus i will be in Oregon for 2 weekends in December, without bikes.
  6. Just trying to see who is going to make it out. I am trying to decide if I want to work Friday night (till 2 am) then come out Saturday-Sunday, or come out earlier and work saturday night.
  7. wow those dunes look a little rough.... but still nice.
  8. i'm not really sure what's available for the 400ex. but HMF, Sparks, DMC, Dasa are ones that come to mind. just not sure who makes stuff for the 400ex. Loud is usually more flow = more power.
  9. intake, exhaust, rejet.... if you need more, a cam, higher compression piston, just don't go to high or you wil have to run race gas. under 10:1 should be good. anymore then this and you might as well just buy a new bike that comes with more power.
  10. i noticed there was more trash recently then i had seen last year. it is hard to pick stuff up with just a quad. Clean up weekend might need a pre-cleanup weekend.
  11. yeah, during the XP dig out clips, i was going to take the peep shots out, but then i figured why?? These were one couple of the 2 XPs that were at the North pole and the Girl had Shorty shorts. plus it's funny. I was looking at the sand where i was digging... Honestly!! This video came out pretty good, I picked the Remix songs and mixed the 2 together then fit the video clips in. I like it when the video and audio works together, but Youtube is crazy with blocking everything now. these remixes must not be registered.
  12. the jump on Sunday that Mike found was awesome!! landing was nice, the loop back to hit it was fun. I had a little track going and Jodi and I were both having fun with it. i guess i am getting used to the bigger jumps as I didn't even realize what they looked like. There are a few other photos that mike got, but Jodi has them. all the performance mods have been good so far. Intake, tuner, and exhaust i am happy with them all. I had a couple weird moments with the bike running this last weekend but overall it seems ok. The extra 10 HP is prefect right now. Making a run up Comp toward the top the bike sputtered, so i shifted down and it seemed ok. I think the bike was running too lean. On one run, i killed it behind Mike from a bit of a panic brake, and it wouldn't start. Battery started to die, turned the key off, back on, and it fired right up. At least it started, and no similar issues before or after that. I am looking forward to getting the suspension stuff on, should be 2-4 weeks though . I am kinda kicking myself for spending the money, as I have been able to keep up in groups just fine. I am hoping the suspension will help in the turns though so i don't have to fight it so much. Also when the dunes get all ripped up hopefully this will help, along with not bottoming out so bad on jumps.
  13. i was in the Carpenter's union, and that one ruined my opinion forever. Along with teacher's union, and UAW. I worked on construction sites with union trades for many years, and most of those workers were working the system big time. The union bosses in my old union didn't do a damn thing and I always had to drive an hour plus to get work. I feel the unions/ workers take a little much in many cases. this and taxes is why everything is made in China now. I don't want to start a battle with you about unions Steve. I am glad you are happy, and look forward to hanging out with you and tearing up some sand.
  14. i like camping in the 5 and 6 area. some areas can be soft over here so you have to be careful and keep moving. I know a few guy like to camp over by 9. there is a little less traffic over there, and it's easier to ride the rocky ridge where it's firm for the Motorhome guys. The area by the fingers ( you can see the sand fingers on the map) the 3, 5, 6,7 area is popular. I like camping close to sand I as I hate the flats, and the 9 area can have some good 5-6" rocks in the camping area. if you camp to close to the big dunes (7 or 8) you will get more traffic going by you on their way to the dunes. That 5-6 area is my favorite. as pete said, its about prefference, but also you don't want to get stuck in a big rig set-up. Always someone around to help pull you, but still. Not trying to scare you, just something to watch out for. Not many people get stuck, and even less get stuck very bad. I have seen a guy driving around in a Prius out there this year. Most of the people i ride with seem to meet at north pole. It's a good destination spot to make a run to. Most people i have been riding with are not racers, so Comp has limited interest. make a run or two off to the dunes.
  15. read... no... But i saw a news report and i guess Hostess did close... that is crazy. stupid Unions. They should just start a new company, and buy everything back.. run under a new name, get a new start. The news reports I saw yesterday were different. I wil have to get my new suspension re valved with no Hostess to make me fat. Luckly my Chocolate fix is mostly Hershey's.
  16. i wil have to see if I got it on Gopro.. I don't think Jodi got any photos... she was slackin'
  17. i don't think Hostess as a whole. one of the Twinkie factories was striking and Hostess said go back to work, or it's done. I think it's kinda funny, stupid union BS. Just close up and sell it off. New owners don't have to abide by old union BS.
  18. Yeah, poor Terry needs a Car driving buddy. I am thinking i will make this weekend, Sat-Sun probly so I can work Friday night... UGGGG. hmmm. I wanna RIDE.
  19. all of those are on one hitch, for the one quad. It looks like those would both be good options. You were thinking about building something which may be cheaper. Even though its a pain i think having one quad in the kitchen is better. Two full size quads and the rack is like 1000lbs and seems like a lot to hang off the back. I should have looked at the signature, but was having a blonde moment i guess.
  20. I will ask them tomorrow Terry. going to call and talk to them, and depending on what they say i will give you call.
  21. Cruiser lift = cool Swivel = very weird... I wonder if that is really legal. tandem trailer is all about length isn't it. or having the proper license?? for 2 smaller quads i like the hitch idea, but what about in a few years when the kids want bigger bikes. Is the kitchen area full?? or a ramp inside the hauler to stack?
  22. it's just to hang the kids quads i think. He is sayint predator, but i think it's a car, not the Polaris quad since he said it weighs 2k lbs. that would suck to ride a quad that weighs that much..
