Saw this today in an e-mail from a towing newsletter. http://www.moveoveramerica.com/ There is a law in every state but Hawaii and Washington DC that you must move over(change lanes if possible) if an emergency vehicle is stopped with his lights on. This includes tow trucks and Maint. vehicles. If it's a 2 lane road you have to slow down to 20 mph. Pretty good read, I know it's posted in Idaho on the highways but never knew it was in all most all states. Hope this keeps em safe and you without a ticket. Terry

I really don't see how such a easy request for E-MAILED comments about LEO's and their good or bad contacts at Dumont with Dumont users got to be such a mess. I guess it shows that we(duners) are our own worst enemies! I don't want a public display of they did this or they did that, I was looking for something I could carry in my hand and let the sub group and BLM authorities read. I really didn't want them reading it on her(yes they do read posts here) As usual we(duners) can't seem to come together to help ourselves. I wonder why we can't ever come together and show a united front? It's pretty simple folks, I am looking to see if this is a problem or not. So far it would appear that the problem may lie on our side more than there's! As always I appreciate your support, Terry

I disagree with the video statement about not duning the SXS in 4x4. I always use the 4x4 in my RZR s and never had an issue. The rzr's pull harder in 4x and I feel that when you get in a position that you need the extra pull it's there. Just my way of dong it but it feels better to me.

So for the last few months I have been getting stories about contact between duners and LEO's at Dumont. Some of it was good and some was bad. I have a sub-group meeting next month and I am thinking that since we have a new field manager and a new OHV operations manager I want to being able to talk about what I see as an issue that appears to be forming at Dumont. Over the last 10 years the Friends of Dumont Dunes have built an excellent relationshiip with the Barstow BLM. Unfortunatly those managers that we built those relations with have moved on or retired. I am starting to see a pattern in the contacts I have been hearing about with the Law Enforcement side of the Barstow LEO's. I need to know if you have had a good or not so good contact with Law Enforcement at Dumont. I don't care if you were guilty or not and there is nothing I can do if you got a ticket or arrested but I can hopefully do something about the way people are being contacted and treated during their interaction with the law enforcement officers. What I am asking is an e-mail to me at terryallen@cox.net with a description of what occurred, how you were treated and what sort of enforcement action was taken. Whether you deserved it or not I want to be able to build a case if need be about the stricter actions being taken at Dumont. I do not want to see it turn into the Gestopo type tactics used at Glamis. To do this I need both the good bad and the ugly so I can sit down with the sub-group and have an open conversation with the group and the new field manager and OHV operations manager. Please take a moment to give me your input so I can help nip this in the bud per say. I DO NOT want to discuss this on this board as the BLM reads it and I want a fair and impartial look at what's going on out there. So please e-mail me with your response. Thanks in advance, Terry

I have gone all 4 ways. If you live in the Northwest then I would consider the US95 route though Indian Springs and to Parump. No hills, pretty much all freeway or good highway(watch out for NHP in Indian Springs). The Mt. Potosi grade is a tuff pull but if you take it easy and don't get unlucky and stuck behind someone slower than you it get's you there the fastest. Wether you take Tecopa or Pahrump you will encounter one more grade. The road out of Parump is wider, smoother and the grades are less severe. The I15 is a longer pull as Baker is past Dumont and you have to come back to Dumont 33 miles from the turnoff in Baker. I also think the Baker grade is to long and to hard on rigs both ways. I have a 40' M/H and a looong trailer. I prefer to take the Pahrump way and will occasionally take Tecopa rd if travelling with someone else. Hope that helps. Terry PS Nice thing about Pahrump is their are grocery stores and gas stations if you forgot anything and some really lousy fast food resturants if you can stand lousy food and lousy service.

Well tell I him I felt his pain and it only gets better with time and P/T. The hardest thing for me was doing the "Roll" out of bed to get up in the morning. Once I accomplished that the rest was all positive. Best wishes and tell Charlie i am pulling for him.

AB 1595 please read! new side x side laws at Dumont (CA)

Mike I am not raining on your parade but a simple question; Why do you think that a petition to the Federal Goverment concerning a state law would have any effect? I know the law is stupid but I somehow can't see the President or any of his staff taking away from their time f*cking everything in this country up and asking the Govenor of Kalifornia to kill an off road bill. I will be glad to sign but think it's pissing in the wind and telling ourselves it's raining. Maybe I am missing something in your thought process, if so let me know what it is. Thanks, Terry -
Jill what did he have done and who was his DR?

5.7 litre Northstar? I was under the impression that the Northstar's biggest motor was a 4.6 litre. if this is the case then what year is the motor out of curiousity?

I bought a roll up pouch for my Harley's a few years ago and after selling them I just kept it. It has a little of everything in it including bailing wire and tape. I will try to get the name of the company I got it from for you.
-
Why would you not buy the parts from him if he has the knowledge and means to make it happen? Just saying that free advice is one thing and being in business is another. If he can help you, give the man your business and you have a person who you can call on for help anytime through the process. Can't imigine his price on the equiptment would be that much than you spending your time and error on it? Terry

Thanks Mike and Stacie, will let you know as we get closer.

Just pick one Johnny, you can't have both. If your giving the rangers sh*t cause they were riding to fast and went over well that's on him. You don't have any idea of the nature of the call they were going on or if there wasn't a call. But you want them to haul a$$ through the flats chasing speeders,it doesn't make sense. The libality factor of rangers chasing through the flats over a speeding ticket is not worth the libality if they were to hit someone coming out of camp or were to hit you or a child you would have a lawyer up their a$$ in a second and you know it and so do they. I will agree that the situation at Dumont has changed since the change in Managers at Barstow BLM and we will talk about it at the subgroup meeting next month. Just so you know I am not defending their actions or non actions I am just explaining the reason why certain things are done the way they are done. Terry

is it legal to pull a trailer behind a quad?
ynot replied to 1320's topic in Dumont Regulations, Safety & BLM
I would think that you would be in violation of ca. law. They pulled a friend of mine off of a trailer he was standing on while in camp that was hooked to a truck that was backing the flatbed into position to load a bab-q. I think unless it manufactured to carry people and had the proper safety equiptment + helmets and belts I would think at bare minimum they will stop you and doubt they would allow it to continue. You may want to call the BLM office in barstow and ask to speak to the LEO supervisor about it. But I would bet that he says no.Just my penny's worth. Terry -

You know Adam the trailer is kinda cold and might make you old before your time! I would keep that "old man" comment to myself if I was you since your bunking on the nice comfy M/H couch of one of the "older gentlemen" you speak of!!
