  1. She actually owns that one to which your speaking of and is completely renovating it. It was once a Hostel and was a pit. She has done a lot of work on it and although not a 5 star hotel I would say if you were a greenie who was used to sleeping in those kind of places you would be happy. She also owns the B&B at the China Date ranch and although it also is not a 5 star it is very nice, quiet and has a great view of the date palms and the hills behind it. It is booked all the way thru next year at $149.00 per night not including meals. She gets a lot of hikers, greenies etc. who like the peace and quiet of a remote setting. She is a nice person but she doesn't want to accept the fact that her county is screwing them over and wants to blame the duners for the cause of their problems, I.E. trash, noise illegal riding and dumping. Some of these may be from us but I can tell you that most of the problems from off road use come from users OTHER than Dumont people. No body goes thru the desert on paddle tires and nobody unloads their bikes to ride in the mud flats while waiting to dump out at the county park. She just is looking for an easy place to lay the blame and she along with the other townspeople will need some education and gentle treatment. The people who do the things that she complains about just make it harder on all of the rest of us as usual.
  2. Yes it's the same lady. She wanted me to drive out there for another meeting andf I told her that I wasn't seeing a need to meet one on one with her as she deceived us by stating that the 1st conversation was on a personal basis not as a rep for her organization as she had initally advised. I think her members didn't like what they heard and wanted to get some consessions from us and BLM. I told her i wanted to meet with the total group not just 1 person who changes her status at will.
  3. Good question, I have no answer for it right now. Apparently the one person who pitched the biatch no longer wants to talk to us(duners) so we will wait to see what happens as we go along. I believe she and the other complaintants may be invited to a TRT meeting in August.
  4. I should be in Salt lake City about 8-9 tomorrow night, can I join you long distance?
  5. The power to create a new law is a formal request from a district office and then it has to go thru the formal channels including the federal registray and public comment. Right now the speeding law is tuff to enforce as you have to guess at distance from a campsite and approx. speed of something over 25 mph. The radar guns reflect off the sides of motorhomes and trailers and become hard to calibrate and thus are not used. Do the rangers let some things go on in front of them that you may want enforced, yes they do. Why, because they have priorities and must be able to clear and go to an accident or other happining. If they wanted to enforce the "reckless Driving " law they could easily do that in many cases but do not like to use that ticket as it has an impact on peoples driving record and is major dollars as some on this forum can attest to. For that reason i appreciated the LEO's forthright answer about why they don't use it all that often. I believe the rangers try to cut a break when they can but sometimes they have to do what they need to do. Will this new rule change things, i hope so but we all know there will never be enough rangers to stop everything that goes on but do we really want them to?
  6. Nice job Ragdoll, hopefully I can bring back some video from St. Anthony's next week.
  7. If you don't want the speed limit controlled then that's fine just let me know and I will back of the suggestion. However don't be bitchen about the kid running full blast past your camp either. I don't really want any more rules out there but with the increase of people using the dunes it's just a matter of time before something bad/stupid happens.
  8. No I am thinking of the actual camping area in front of the dunes on the north side of Comp road. If you camp in the fingers I can't see you duning and having to slow a train of duners cause your in the flats. So I suppose their would be kind of an angled line from the rock pile to the first finger then north along the face of the dunes but back from the actual dunes. Then if your a camper that believes this is good and want to camp in the enforced area then you move if your a normal finger camper. But with the enforcement comes it's own headaches, IE doing a quick high speed run after working on a bike, it is not without enforcement problems thats for sure. I believe they will really heavily enforce on the big weekends and as necessary on the lighter ones.
  9. Thanks for the update Jim, the road will be done by October 1st and is out to bid to grade, roll and add chemical to the brew. The concrete will be done as soon as the river dries up. Aparently they are still seeing some water above it but it is fading fast. The other items of interest are the talk of moving the Vendors to Rock Pile hill to get them out of the bottle neck by the fingers and to make access to them safer and easier as the terrain is firmer over there. We are also talking about reducing the speed limit to 25mph on the flats period. It will not matter if you are near a camp or not. The Friends of Dumont Dunes are doing some preliminary map work on this but I am sure just about all the flats will be speed enforced. We have asked the LEO to strictly enforce these rules once they are in place. I would like to see some input on this item. I know alot of folks are going to be pissed that there is another law in place but honestly the camp racing/safety issue is the most common complaint that we are hearing, so let me know your thoughts on this. Next meeting is August 21st at 10:00 AM in Barstow.

    It's Alive!

Pete, I don't think so i have so much to do before the Idaho trip that I can't afford to take the day. On top of that I am in need of race fuel and won't have any till I get to idaho.
  11. Chris, I know at least I figured you were screwing around that night and I did not take it personally. i left the fire cause i was tired had a mild buzz and was hoping the wife would be more inclined to sit on my lap. I never took it seriouslly and just thought you were joking around. i suppose we have been kidding you about it but you brought it upon yourself!! :angry2:
  12. Nick, I agree with you and Sanddemon (john) has bought the subject up before but we haven't had any luck with it. I guess BLM employees want their weekends off and the office doesn't want to pay O/T to them. We will continue to attempt to get them to be flexible on it. I will keep you informed.
  13. I was planning on stopping by for a beer but? No really I was but found out that the SIL and Son have their first softball game tonight at 8 so I want a few laughs on that one. Oh wait it's the Henderson Chev softball team and you guys are not going to support them? Shame shame! Chris there is no "thing" with me, your weird and the night at the dunes I was tired and went to bed cause I didn't see anything positive coming from a guy who wanted to sit on my lap! But just in case the women gets tired at the game I might still be able to make it over for a quiet one!
  14. Those will be definite subjects of discussion. I will be going so if anybody wants to ride down i have a cpl seats available.
  15. I should be able to give you a BLM update after the next TRT meeting on June 5th.
  16. Cars are nice but the drivers are fruggin ugly as hell!
  17. Bert, thanks I have 2 55's but was looking for the smaller one just for extra. I have a 55 being delivered to the RV park but came pretty close to running out of fuel last time. Thought I would take some extra. But I think what I will do is go get 30 gals or so and put it in the trailer's tank. thanks for the offer Matt I appreciate it.
  18. Does anybody have a pony barrel that I can either borrow or buy? I need it for a trip to Idaho in June. If anyone in Las Vegas has one and would let me use it it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, terry
  19. Ken, I am going to have a piece of Aluinimum 20"x 28" or so that is going to need to be coated. Can I drop it off to you at the Chevy store some time next week? And can you give me an idea on how much that would run? Thanks, Terry
  20. When I was riding my quad or am in the rhino I wear Pro grip because the lenses change as the light changes. In the rail I wear the new Sand goggles from Oakley cause they really keep the sand out. Since I don't ride at night i only have to deal with dusk and that can be a pain. If I am leading I go without, if I am following I follow taillights with goggles on.
  21. Sorry I won't be making that trip as I will be enroute back to vegas from ST.ANTHONY"S!!!!
  22. Cut off their sources of food and water. If you feed your dog outside feed him only at night. The owl things work for awhile but you have to move them every once in a while to make them effective. Also you can buy rubber snakes that do the same thing. Been thru this it's not a lot of fun.
