Be glad to Rob, when you show up for the next TRT meeting I will go over all the budget numbers. I would even be glad to discuss them on the phone or via e mail with you but I am not taking the amount of time to put it on here and then get flamed for it. So when can I expect your e mail?

OK, so why are the surcharges ? Why should I have to pay more if I don't chose to go out on those 5 holiday's? It costs tons of money to cover Law enforcement, Emt's etc for those weekends when you have 30,000 people there. Why should people who choose not to attend those dates have to support your choice. We had to find an equitable way to pass the loss of Green sticker dollars and lost appropations from Congress. This idea was actually suggested by Dumont Users at the last meeting. If it had not been suggested you would have probably gotten hit with the bigger increase across the board. So it's not a "double" but it is a increase, if you don't like it then write to your Ca. Gov. and ask him to equalize the green sticker committee. Write to your congressmen and senators and let them know you are unhappy with the lack of funding of off road recreation. But don't tell me that $120.00 is expensive to spend basically every other weekend out at the dunes camping under the stars and enjoying your off road toys and campers that you paid a hell of a lot more than a tent would have cost! I am tired of hearing everybody biatch but nobody help. You want to complain? Join us at FoDD and we will all work together. It's kinda like voting, if you vote you have a right to complain. If you don't vote you get what you get. that's it. Ok i have had a long day so I am off my soap box. Terry

Ok, here's the deal! The road as of now is unfinished. It needs to be watered and rolled. Do I think it's going to be as smooth as a baby's behind, no. Will it be better, I certainly hope so. BLM was advised that the road needs smoothing out and rolling along with some material at the entrance as it is already showing through. This was noted by BLM and all we can do is hope that it will be taken care of. The cost was $98,000.00 which paid for 300 loads of recycled asphalt. Would I like to have my street as an entrance road? To be honest no I would not, never wanted the road paved and this is as close as I want it to be. The main concern on the road was to cut the dust down, to that degree it did the job it was supposed to and will continue to do so. Is the road a drag strip well to some idiots it always has. Nothing has changed if you see a fast moving vehicle coming by you move to the right and slow down or stop to avoid rocks etc. That hasn't changed nor will it appear to change in the future. The areas surronding Dumont, IE Shoshone and Tecopa are complaining about the dust, trash and black tank dumping so the battle is coming. Take your trash and black tanks back home not to the roadside or into these small towns as they are complaining about being overwhelmed by traffic and trash. This may have a greenie based backing but it is a battle brewing none the less. Spider, if your so damm interested in how the money is spent maybe you should get off your butt and join Friends of Dumont Dunes and help out, or at the very least talk to a board member to get the real skinny on where the money is going. As a matter of fact more Law Enforcement has been a focus over the last 2 years along with the road improvements, bridge improvments etc. that have been done and are planned. So before you condem those that try to save your riding area for you maybe you should get yourself involved! Further notice is that fees will be going up next year to make up for lost green sticker money and approprations that we lost from the state of CA. and the federal Goverment. Here's the breakdown; 7 day pass $30.00 Annual pass $90.00 Holiday surcharge $10.00 (applies to halloween, Thanksgiving, New Years, Presidents Day and Easter) Annual pass upgrade to include all 5 holiday periods $120.00 This makes sense to have the users on the busy weekend help pay for the added LEO's and EMT's that are needed. My thanks to Dave for going down with me and to Mike for taking the time to go to the meeting . Remember the public is invited and encourged to attend these meetings. The next one is June 5th at 10:00 AM at the BLM field office in Barstow. Terry

Let's just see what BLM has to say about it tomorrow, ok?

What your missin Tyler is the fact that a lot of fee demo money went into this and it turned out worse than it was. I understand that I am taking my motorhome where it probably wasn't designed to go and I try to go slow and take it easy on it. However I was looking forward to a nicer entry road not a worse one. It won't stop me from going but I will be asking where the money went on tuesday.

Got it Thanks!

Staci, I believe there are supermoto races this weekend. here's the link! http://www.supermotousa.net/home.htm

Not a problem, there's room on the trailer for the car and the bike. You can come get it friday or whenever. If your going to come out you realy don't want your car leaving that early do you? Joe, why don't you camp where we did for the clean up if you don't want to go to #9 I really don't like getting stuck, takes a lot of fun out of the trip you know what I mean?
-
CAR!! You going to need my trailer Pete?
-
I second that!!

Your welcome. I appreciate the opportunity to help! Yes the meetings do make a difference, in the past i have wondered myself if they do but I have to believe that we do make a difference in our world if we participate.

Pete, I have had the same concerns as you but the deal was to good to pass up. There will be warning signs put up that the road ends and is not maintained and that it is a fee area. Hopefully that will keep ma and pa barker from travelling out to the flats in July and getting stuck. makes for a nasty scenario! But the bad people if they wanted to come out there were coming anyway so we might as well enjoy a decent road. I was thinking speed bumps but not sure if they are going to put those in. As for the bridge thru the river it to will be widened this spring as soon as the river ceases to flow. We are widening it to 36' from 12' this should cure the traffic issues on the big weekends. Although I have decided to help with traffic congestion on big weekends by staying home.

I am surprised to see it happen this fast. The TRT was notified and we agreed that using recycled pavement from I15 was a good use of our fee demo funds. The actual cost is a substanial savings to us and the asphalt is basically free. We have to pay for grading and hauling but the labor and material is free. There has been a big fuss about dust control by the greenies and this is the easiest way to get them off the subject and make an improvement for the duning community. I was not planning on releasing the information about the road until after the TRT meeting on Tue.but the cat's outta the bag. So their will be a 2 lane pave road from the highway to the pay station. I was not sure I wanted the road paved but after the last couple of times out the road was so rough i am sure my equiptment will appreciate the pavement. We looked at the cost of the road and what the cost of the upkeep on the dirt road and found that it will save us a lot of money over time. Terry

Call Neal Shelton at 566-1678 tell him you heard about them from the clean up at Dumont and your looking for a deal. I think he will jump at the chance to help you out and see that his advertising(donation) got the store some recognition. Let me know how it works out will you? -

I would recommend 4 Wheel parts on Sunset. They have been great to deal with for parts that I have needed and their service appears to be good and i have never heard anyone complain about the deals. Other places I have heard complaints about but i will not discuss it on this board. If you want that info PM me. -
Meeting starts at 10:00 and usually ends at 2:00. Usually back in Vegas by 4:30 or so.
-
The next TRT meeting is next Tuesday the 17th. If anybody from Vegas is interested in going I have seats available in my truck. This meeting will be discussing fee's and a new surprise that I can't discuss right now. To say the least it is an important meeting and if you can attend I highly recommend that you do. The last meeting with DDR and guests was one of the best we have ever had and the TRT loves having your opinions presented. Please make every effort to attend and let me know if you want a ride down. I will be leaving at about 7 AM. Terry
