Don29palms
I have a Rampage 326 toyhauler. After some warnings I checked my frame and found out it was cracked. I took the trailer back to Skyline and they have repaired the frame but here is the kicker. When the trailer was purchased the empty dry weight on the trailer was 9040lbs. Now after repairs the trailer weighs 9750lbs. That is a 710lbs difference that comes off of the already limited cargo capacity. Skyline so far has been good with fixing the problems. I am now waiting to see what the fix for this problem is going to be. Hopefully it is easy as stonger frame equals higher GVWR. I would strongly suggest that anyone that has a triple axle trailer check your frame for cracks just above the shackles where the leaf springs mount. This would also include fifth wheel trailers. Good Luck Edited January 11, 2009 by Don29palms
Richard Cheese
what was their explaination of the 700lbs??? the new welds??? seriously though, that sux azz, you bought it due to the cargo capacity, and now it has diminished. where does that leave you? btw...what is the gvwr of your rig? wingnut
Not just triple axle trailers have been known to do this. I know a lot of us are fatty's but get your under your trailer and check it out!!!!!
RRC
We have an 06 Rampage 387(40 foot 5er). When we first got it I took it to the factory in Hemet and had them put a 2 inch "lift" on it. This consisted of cutting the shackles off, welding a piece of two inch square tubing to the frame rail, the whole length of the triple axle. Then welding new shackles to the square tubing. Then they added cross braces for each axle, side to side. Also made out of 2inch square tubing. They said this was all the "newest" updates they had made to the triple axles at the time, whatever that means. That was over two years ago with COUNTLESS number of trips and HEAVY loads, no problems yet, knock on wood, lol. Dry weight of trailer is 12,9xx. Thanks for the heads up, could get kinda crazy out there if one of our trailers was to come apart...
