Richard Cheese
http://www.motortrend.com/womt/112_0909_bf...ents/index.html GO MOMENTSpresented by BFG For Allyson Harwood, Motor Trend's Associate Editor and Truck Trend's Executive Editor, her Go Moment was her first dune-riding experience: "Even though Dumont Dunes isn't all that far from a major Interstate in Southern California, being there can make you feel as if you've been transported to the Sahara. The enormity of each dune and the sheer number of hills makes it seem as if this off-highway vehicle area could go on forever. My first time at Dumont, I rode in a truck with one of the more experienced dune riders before trying it myself. He drove at very high speeds -- with the windows down. Covered in sweat, face full of sand, knuckles still white from where I gripped the grab handle, it was now my turn. Getting up to speed before climbing the side of a hill, I realized I didn't know what was waiting for me; the wind constantly reshapes the terrain, so you can never truly know. Crossing the top of the ridge, there is a moment when uphill becomes downhill -- like being at the peak of a hill on a rollercoaster -- and you can't stop, because if you do, you're stuck. Here we go! The hillside was a lot steeper than I'd expected, the bottom much further down than I'd thought, and I felt my heartbeat in my ears. It was pure bliss riding all the way down, with sheets of sand on either side of the truck and a grin on my face that could've blinded someone. While the other driver tackled the dunes much faster than I did, it wasn't nearly as much fun as when I screamed through the dunes myself."
