sand chick
So Mommies Christmas check came in... Now I am trying to decide if I should do another upgrade or not.. and if I decide to what should I do, if anything at all.. heck maybe I will just get new riding gear.. should I just hold out and wait til next season? I am fairly happy with what I have.. but if you don't know whats out there, how do you decide? Decisions decisions decisions... I am not a hill shooter or a racer in anyway. I spend most of my time chasing down Mike in his rail on fast dune runs. So opinions, advice or whatever How much do things cost..what do they do.. etc etc And for those that don't know I run an 05 Honda TRX 450r and just upgraded the tires (which I love)
Chadwick
So far the best thing I have done that I have been the most satisfied with was upgrading my suspension. A more comfortable ride through the dunes made all the difference in the world. If it were me that is where I would start however it was costly but well worth it in my opinion. My confidence drastically increased after I upgraded my suspension because I wasn't getting bounced around all over the place.
high octane junkie
^ agreed. handling should always be the starting point. that could mean more than shocks, etc. steering stabilizer to reduce bump steer and improve steering. anti-vibe stem helps. pro-taper or flexx bars improve ride comfort. softer grips. wider stance for stability. you can go the thrifty route and get wheel spacers to widen stance. aftermerket shocks improve just about everything, ride quality, ride comfort, etc.. they make the biggest difference. you can have your stock shocks re-sprung and re-valved to your specific weight and riding preference cost efficiently. Junkie pretty much covered all the bases...stem,bars,stabilizer,suspension.... Before you toss a couple grand at a set of shocks and a-arms tough, try dialing in what you have. It's a free "up grade". Stock shocks on newer bikes are way more adjustable then they were years ago. If you can't get them dialed in to your liking, you can do like junkie also said, and get em resprung/valved.
sand chick
So instead of tossing more $$ at it right now, I should try to have the shocks adjusted first and go from there? I didn't even think of that! Great advice thanks guys!
Foxysandchick
1st mods after getting tires you like...High flow air filter and exhaust= $250....my 400 is faster than stock stuffed up 450's. The rest depends on what you don't like or would like improved on your bike. Do you like the feel of the suspension or is it too stiff and you feel like you are being thrown off of it on bumps and jumps?? Have you loosened up your stockers yet?? Cheapest route is to re-valve and re-spring the stock shocks. Next cheapest is to buy some used aftermarket shocks, best to find on a honda forum. Cheap things I've changed on every bike just for comfort are the handle bars=$60, grips=$20, seat cover=$30, nerf bars=$200, bumper and grab bar=$100... Ebay and bike specific forums for the best deals. Good Luck Edit: You can get the stock shocks rebuilt for about $400 front and $400 rear. This place has had good reviews on the other forum I'm on and their turn around time is supposed to be really quick. http://www.gtthunder.com/450R.htm Edited December 30, 2009 by Foxysandchick

BLUE STEEL
Contact Quad Tech for a seat cover. They make very quality ones. If you call over there they can make a custom one for your Honda. Even though they show on the website that they only come in certain colors for Honda, you can mix them up. I know you like green. Just tell them which design you like, them tell them what colors to go where. I have bought 3 from them.
BLUE STEEL
The guys name at Quad Tech is Bill. Really nice guy. Here is a pic of the one he just did for my yfz. This is a full custom cover. Not pictured on his website. He made it just for me. Kinda cool huh?

I have had those eats on my last two quads and they work great. I am fairly certain we had this conversation before though.
