Just Mike
I decided to take a look at my CV's today since they were making a bit of noise. I figured they had to have plenty of grease since I just serviced them at the beginning of the season. I was very surprised to find out that they were almost dry. I am very impressed that the KAR TEK CV's held up so well being that dry. Any way I have been wanting to get some of these greasing spacers for a while but just didn't have the extra cash to do it. After I saw what I did today I went ahead and ordered them. They look like they should work well.
dunefreak
Your biggest investment would be STEELCO grease. It's that really thick stringy red chit. We use it at the dealership on stuff like slip yokes. That chit doesn't break down and holds up under more abuse that our cars could ever put it through. Never used those grease and go spacers, but I guess they make sense if you run the cheaper grease. lol

How much is the stuff you are talking about?
andydew
I'm running conoco brand red HD high tack on the drivetrain/chassis of all our rigs; seems to be the best I've found. It has good stand up to water . Don't know how it compares to steelco brand, but I pay around $2.50 per cartridge; although I'm buying 40 at a time. I pick it up at DOWNS in Corona. I didn't mean cheap as in price. I meant qaulity. I just don't understand why so many people run that conventional CV grease anymore. I don't know what stuff that Bell Ray is, but it sounds like it is thw stuff that breaks down easily under high temp and after a few trips. There are so many brands and names that get thrown around these days when it comes to CV grease. The stuff I am talking about sounds like what andydew is running as well. Talk to Bert (sanddunesaddict). He will tell you all about it too. It is the sh*t and much cheaper than most of the stuff that the "big builders" will swear by. :mischevious: Everyone I know who has ever run it has never had a CV fail from lack of lubrication. You don't have to service your CV's nearly as much with that good thick stuff in there. I'll get a pic of the tube tomorrow at work and post it up. SAND~~SNAKE
I had to do some polishing to my cages and I can honestly say it was hard as hell to get it out of my cv's! Its the sh*t!
Just Mike
So where can I get that stuff? I always thought you had to run CV grease in CV's . Thanks for the heads up guys. :mischevious:
Randog
So where can I get that stuff? I always thought you had to run CV grease in CV's . Thanks for the heads up guys. I took Bert's advise and ordered the minimum quantity from the manufacture. I just got my case of 10 tubes today. I only want 4 tubes for myself. I'm selling the rest for $12 a tube (my cost). Are you interested in any tubes Mike? I could have Krusty bring them to D this weekend if you're interested???? Thanks Bert for the heads up. :porn: Good to know 'Sand Snake' and 'The Frizzz' stand by it too. R-
sanddunesaddict
I have been preaching this stuff for a very long time. Its far superior to any other grease out there...It is overkill for CV applications and thats why its bitchen!!!!

I will pick it up at the dunes. Wanna trade for some coffee?LOL Well, I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is-- I have no bad news. The bad news is--- I have no news at all. On a serious note: I ordered 10 tubes. I'm keepin' 4. Krusty wanted 3. Mike wants 4. Terry wants 354. That's a total of 365 tubes. Just talked to Krusty and he said he'll just take 2 if you guys want more. That leaves 4 tubes for Mike. And if Mike wants to share with Terry then they might both be happy in the long run. :drunks: I'll leave that up to you guys. I think you need less than 2 tubes to do a complete CV service. I will send the 4 tubes to Dumont with KRUSTY this weekend. FYI To order a minimum 10 tubes: Here's the # to SteelCo. 219-462-0333, talk to Jim (cool peeps) $120.00 a case of 10 tubes. Shipping included. Steelco 488-1 red crown lubricant. R-

Hey mike, you gotta mix Swepco with the Bel-Ray or it turns into clay. like 75% BR and 25% Swepco. Too much swepco and it'll run out of the boot. Ran this way 4 seasons on the same CV's with only minimal wear when I changed em out. It's what all the racers use. I'm tryin something different now, forgot the name, been happy so far, I'll check the can and it's only 12 bucks a tube. Alot of the Funco guys swear by it. I was running the Bel Ray mixed with the Swepco. I think all the Swepco just went away and left clumps of Bel Ray. LOL. All I know is that my hands still smell like CV grease. I am so glad they did not get jacked up. The strange thing is that the Bel Ray is so thin out of the tube and the Swepco is so much thicker. dunefreak
2 tubes of the STEELCO should be more than enough for 4 CV's. You don't needd that much in each CV and you don't pack the boots like some people think you have to.
