sanddunesaddict
All Joe and anyone whos trailer is over 10k GVW needs is a J endorsement. If the truck and trailer GCVWR or just the truck GVW is over 26k then you need a CDL or non-commercial class A. Randog
You only need a class a (or can get one) if your gcvw (truck and trailer) is over 26000. Over 10000 on the trailer is a J endorsment isnt it? You would need a class a if your truck is 13000gvw or more. Is it? All Joe and anyone whos trailer is over 10k GVW needs is a J endorsement. If the truck and trailer GCVWR or just the truck GVW is over 26k then you need a CDL or non-commercial class A. I have a tongue trailer (not 5th wheel) with a gvwr of 13k. My total rig loaded weighs just under 22k. So I went to the DMV and took the endorsement test and got a restriction 41 on my license. The DMV said that I can tow my tongue trailer with this endorsement. They weren't very confident until they called Sacramento for the info. EVERYTHING I've read and heard other than from the DMV was that endorsement only covers 5th wheels 10k-15k gvwr, and that I need a non-commercial class A or regular class A to tow my trailer with a gvwr over 10k. Even the DMV handbook says this. The guys at ToyHaulerHooligans.com seem to know their stuff about these issues. I'm still not totally sure. I think the registration should have the laws and regulations on them so everyone would know what the legalities are. R-

R- IN CA - tow behind trailers over 10,000 GVW require Non-commercial Class A. 5th wheels over 15,000 GVW require non-commercial class A. I took the test for my 15,500 GVW 5th wheel.
