dunefreak
Vegas got hit pretty hard yesterday. I was thinking of how it must have been out at D. For whoever was out at D, how was it? Sounds like Saturday evening was a cookie-poker-and-beer-in-the-hauler kinda night.
Chadwick
We got there Saturday morning about 7:30 and it was a little windy but would calm down long enough for some killer rides. Sand was great and razors were peaked. Then about 1:00 the heavy wind came and it was put of control! We tried to stick it out for about an hour then we loaded up and headed out. Had to wear our goggles while loading up because it was so bad. It was weird how fast it came all the sudden.
sanddunesaddict
We got there about 4:30pm and it was blowing pretty good. You could stay out in it if you faced the right way. When we left at 8pm I couldnt see the ground leaving. I crawled out of there untill I got to the road as I did not want to hit a fire pit or kiddie track!!!!! It was pretty bad. If it wasnt bad this morning they had virgin dunes for sure.

~JILL~
Charlie's little weather station recorded 42mph wind last night. Could hardly open the door without the wind trying to take it off the hinges. Got up this morning and had about 6 inches of sand blown in around the bikes and trailer tires. It was hitting the windows with a constant tap tap tap ! Sure was nice this morning though. dinicolady
It was pretty bad. If it wasnt bad this morning they had virgin dunes for sure. Yeppers, Saturday night sucked...errrr....blew!! No campfire time and thank goodness an indoor dinner was already planned. Our hauler was parked broadside to the wind so we did some major rockin' aaalllll night long! This morning was still pretty breezy but not enough to keep us outta the dunes. The riding was AMAZING, but in some places the wind blew away the soft dry stuff and exposed the still wet and packed sand. Made for some rough riding spots here and there, but all in all really glad I didn't wimp out and stay at camp!!
sanddunesaddict
You went to Dumont for 3 1/2 hrs? Yep!! I got off of work and Ashley had the Tracker packed and ready to go. She just wanted to take a drive. So we drove out with the intention to stay though campfire time but the wind stopped that. Saw Stacy and friends as we were turning on the 127. Just went to say hi to some people.Stopped by 80Grits trailer for a bit.Went and found Terrry's group but they were locked up like Fort Knox, found Randog's group but the same thing. So we found Jim,Joe and others and stopped there for a bit. 50MPH gusts are not fun in the Tracker

It was nasty out there. Almost felt like tying down the hauler, for fear it was gonna blow over. I was sure the wind was going to expose a couple stabilizer jacks. Well said on the wet sand under the dry stuff. Made for some rough riding for sure.
Sandfrk33
We had to re-adjust our leveling jacks 2 times saturday night because the wind blew the sand out from under them. Got up early this morning and found some killer sand though.

Kind of like driving up in a snow storm only to find out in the mornig the sun is out and 2 feet of fresh powder.

Moparskin18
After the cleanup, headed back to camp and was getting warm, decided to pull out the awning, got dogs tied up, opened up a cold one sat down and wam!!!!! Big gust of wind out of nowhere started and almost took the awning right off the trailer, spilled my beer!!! and it took 4 of us to roll up the awning. Made the mistake of leaving one of the truck windows down a little, there's enough sand in their to make a dune!!!! Had to go outside and adjust the leveling jacks, I finally hooked the truck back up to stabilize the trailer more. Fun times Saturday night in TRP's Duners hauler, i'm sure sandchick will post the vids!!! Went ridin this mornin with SandSnake and both of us almost ate it hard but saved it, it looked like rocks :?: in the sand, but, it was hard packed wet sand formed into ruts, found some smooth sand and rode a bit till the wind picked up. Vegashd
The wind was crazy!!! I have some crazy pics of dirt in ice chests, our tent.... and build up around the bikes way more then 6" This morning the dunes were virgin but the loose stuff was blown away and the faces of the dunes were still wet from the last rains and were chopped from heavy winds!!! vegas style
yea i was broad side to the wind and had a lot of open desert on that side. that was a ride a couple times. i also had to reset my jacks and was glad i stayed hooked up. sure seemed like higher then 40mph by all the pebbles hitting the side. then on my first run this morning i found out what snapped yesterday on that G out. couple bolts holding the upper subframe broke and pulled the wiring harness killing the quad (soft sand and a quick stop made for a nice roll over the bars) was able to get towed out by my friends rzrs but on the last dune the strap went slack just as the rzr crested and like a whip cracking i was tossed right off the back. dam tossed twice on the same break down. bummed i put up with all the wind and didnt get to enjoy the virgin sand! Anna & I had 3 nights (Wed-Fri night) at the Mandalay Bay for 311 day festivities and checked out Sat morning. There just wasn't enough time to be able to do both. Oh well. I'm kinda glad I didn't go now. It looked ridiculous out there!
Bryan M
I really like these pics... we went out sat. morning, left vegas about 8am and it was hard here already, said f*k it lets go anyways..got out there around 10am found Mush and family and got ready to go pick up some trash...decided we would go over to vendors and pick up the H Town Crew and what do you know... it turned into a full dune run out to saweeeeet! got back to the trailers about 1:30 and Chris(Mush) says take my new beast for a spin(rotax rhino w/ 840 kit) so we take off and as soon as we do the wind kicks up and you cant even see the edges of the dunes, we go for about a 5-10 min and get into the big dunes at the south end and I smell something burning, so I hurry up and shut the rhino down, rip out the seats and sure enough tons of oil is coming out the breather filter so I wave down a group on quads and hitch a ride to camp(if your the guy that gave me the ride-THANK YOU!) grab Chris and we head back over in my rhino, sure enough we fire it up and its got a knock in the engine doesnt sound good(valve-spring?)..so we turn her off and start lookin at our tow options, after about 30 min of attempts to pull it out of the bowl we make it... and then once we had momentum the rest of the dunes were fairly easy to get through...so it was fun in the morning but then it seems like all hell broke loose on us. Just want to apologise to Mush and family, not only did I bring the wind in with me sat. but then I took out his toy and blew it up :angry2: :porn: so they weathered the storm sat. night (while I slept in my nice cozy bed here in vegas)and woke up to freshies with no toy to play because of ME! :argue: Thanks for inviting me out Chris! Sure you wanna ask next time????

Just Mike
That wind was as bad as I have ever seen it. Right before the sun went down and we were out playing in it I could see all the wet sand as all the dry stuff blew away. I am not sure what made us think it would be a good idea to go out in it but I am glad we did. I had a blast. I just hope I didn't suck a bunch of sand into the motor. Time for another oil chage.
