dunefreak
Watching the videos and looking at the pics, it blows me away the power of mother nature. That has got to be scary as sh*t to see first hand all that water and rubble sweeping across the land. <object width="420" height="245" id="msnbc5d3bc6" classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=10,0,0,0"><param name="movie" value="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640"><param'>http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640"><param name="FlashVars" value="launch=42030003&width=420&height=245"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="wmode" value="transparent"><embed name="msnbc5d3bc6" src="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640" width="420" height="245" flashvars="launch=42030003&width=420&height=245" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"></object> Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

TheAlaskan
Mother Nature can be an evil b*tch! Its still amazing at how much power and force is stored up.... Growing up on Kodiak Island in southern Alaska we had tsunami siren tests once a week so you got used to that, but when the alarm went off at a different time..... man it made your ***hole pucker and your heart start beating like crazy! I called my folks this morning and woke them up (forgot there's a three hour time difference now) but they didn't even know about it. Last I heard from alaska is a couple of beaches had 5 foot waves. (Nothing really new though lol)

ltr450rider
I live here in Santa Barbara. We had a tsunami advisory which basically means some swirling waters in the harbor and a few big waves. I rode my bike out to the bluffs where I live in Goleta and it was all normal. I've seen higher waters when there is a storm swell. Santa Cruz got hit pretty hard. One of my customers lives there and works for the city. He was supposed to come down here but got stuck up there working for the city. He said he was up since 2 am, I guess they lost 15 boats in the harbor and most of the docks were destroyed. One thing I was thinking about today was, what if this happened here. Japan is well prepared for this type of event, they even have tsunami walls to protect a few cities. I cant imagine the destruction of this type of event here on the west coast. It would take years to recouperate what was lost.
80grit
After the earthquake hit, the 5 nuclear power plants went into automatic shut down. Water systems are now failed to the reactors. Water is used to cool the reactors. They are saying tonight that 1 of them " may" now be in meltdown mode. A really bad disaster "may" of just got a lot worse. I've been watching that on the news following. Scary stuff! Hopefully they get it under control. They keep saying it shouldn't be a problem, but at the same time they are evacuating the area. dunefreak
http://www.msnbc.msn...ific/?GT1=43001 "Shiomi said that even if there was a meltdown, it wouldn't affect humans outside a six-mile (10-kilometer) radius." "Some 3,000 people within two miles (three kilometers) of the plant were urged to leave their homes, but the evacuation zone was more than tripled to 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) after authorities detected eight times the normal radiation levels outside the facility and 1,000 times normal inside Unit 1's control room."
