Kitcat
I really like Armagossa. The first time I rode in the sand, it was there and the conditions were perfect!!! It was like riding on butter (that's my hubby's saying)! The only bad thing is that there's really no supervision, so you get lots of stupid people riding around without their helmets or riding doubles on quads near the campsites. It's not as bad as Apex, but needless to say, that's the one thing I didn't like. It's not as crowded as Dumont and there aren't really any showboaters there. Although, sometimes it's funny to watch people showboat and THINK they're cool!!!
White Rhino
okay.. you're gonna travel down yonder on the 95 towards reno. be sure and do the posted speed limits in indian springs. after you pass mercury, the divided highway undevides and becomes a two lane highway where you'll continue on your travel stuck behind a very slow moving tractor-trailer that you cannot pass for a few miles. eventually, you'll see a sign that says: amargosa valley 17 miles." you're about 25 miles away from the dunes. roughly 5 miles past the hoopla (a gas station/restaurant and some billboards) the road starts to turn around a mountain. a road, called valley view, will magically appear. if you're not going too fast, you can slow down just in time to turn without gettin' runned-over by people behind you. if you just got around the tractor-trailer and are traveling too fast to stop for the road, you can turn around a few dozen miles up the road, if the tractor-trailer driver lets you. you travel down this here road exceeding the posted speed limit because you're excited that you're gonna have sand particles in your a$$ crack, ear canals, between your teeth etc. you're gonna see a few trails leading off the road towards the dunes.. don't take those. you gotta take the trail that has the "drawn on the road last year with chalk arrows that you can barely see because they're now faded." that would be the path that you passed because you were staring at that "damn that's a bigass pile of sand" dune that you're passing because you think you missed the turnoff that you actually didn't miss until you just missed it. don't worry.. you can turn around a few miles up the road, heh. okay, now you're on the dirt road to the dunes! yes! you snake around this dirt road for about a mile until you come into a stalemate with another truck with a bigass trailer that doesn't want to move out of your way. when this happens, just flap your arms a few times while cursing and then pull off of the dirt road into the sagebrush bushes in a tazmanian devil style fury dusting your trailer and scratching the paint on your truck and pass him while he's still idling on the path and flipping you off. eventually you'll get to the area where the ground starts to get pretty soft, but is still too far from the dunes for your liking, so you just head forward a little bit more. now you've found the perfect spot to camp at, because you're stuck up to the frame in sand. you get excited that you're finally there and without setting up your camp, you drag your bike out and ride full throttle towards that bigass pile of sand you've been staring at for half an hour. you decide full throttle isn't a good idea after you've left your buttock imprint into the seat from the thrashing you just took when you hit that half-mile long whoops track that you'll try and search for a new way around everytime you return to the amargosa dunes. you're at the face of big dune now. you've massaged your buttocks and overcome the shock of how steep this dune looks, and you're ready to drive up this thing because you know your bike can make it up there, and you're a stud so why not! you twist that throttle until it's about to break the cable and fumble through gears until you've found one worthy enough of conquering this monstrosity. but there's a problem.. as big as this dune looks, the top of it comes at you awful fast! two things happen: you say "oh sh!t" and you release the throttle, hopefully doing the latter first. but you're a stud, remember? you turn your handlebars and whip the rear end of the quad around, right? welcome to amargosa dunes.. softest sand in the free world. your right front tire just picks out a spot in the sand and starts searching for china while you, unfortunately, experience the dream of the wright brothers and fly through the air until you become one with the sand. hopefully you'll land on the same side of the dune that you were riding on. hopefully you'll be able to get back onto your bike and ride back. have fun at the dunes. =)~ Best explanation of Armadusthole ever lol oh and to bump it up :-) insomnia is a b*tch
