ynot
We are married in spirit. Does that count? Works for me Mike. I really don't think this is going to be an issue. It's just to make sure that people who try to cheat the system can be detected. In all the time I have been through the gate they have NEVER looked nor asked to look at the back of the pass. Why don't you just put both last names on it and that should eliminate any problems. Edited October 26, 2011 by ynot

Doghouse
If you walk down the street carrying a concealed weapon, there's no telling where you could go and the things you might get away with while doing it, if you don't draw attention to yourself. The same is true about the passes. Don't draw attention to yourself if you can't put your name and license # on the back of your pass. sandawg
I have to chuckle about this one. When driving out of Dumont on Monday mid morning Halloween weekend, a white dually coming in, long after all of the LE"s had gone home, flagged me down to stop. It was Ron, the BLM maintenance guy and he asked to see my pass. I've talked to Ron several times and don't know if he really reconized me or not. I told him jokingly " I never buy a pass" and he responded "I don't believe you" and continued on his way into the dunes. I assume to clean the restrooms. BLM is financially down in Barstow so they have the maintenance people checking for passes too.
Dune Dad
The last few years we were going to Dumont I must of forgot to buy my pass.. The B.L.M. and there B.S. with the pass programs.. I pay more in taxes than some people make in a year, all the bikes, quads and toys are reg current.. Were tired of the fees.. I got a ticket on the windsheld on my truck last year for not having a Forest Adventure Pass in my own mountains that I live in.. I threw it away and NOTHING has happened in over a year.. Those pass programs are a JOKE! I had the B.L.M. come into our camp at the "King Of The Hammers" race a few weeks ago harassing my Girl friend and her and my kids checking our quads for current reg stickers.. I got back just in time to help with providing the officer with our current paperwork.. Than contacted his watch commander on how unprofessional that joke of a "cop" was.. Im sorry but I have no use for the B.L.M. Their just fake desert cops.. Jokes at that !! They should go out and see what REAL Cops do for a living.. LOL! So what the hell does it matter what you pay in taxes and what does that have to do with your feelings toward Law Enforcement officer? That you should show such disrespect for a uniformed Law Enforcement Officer is downright wrong.. You may not like nor think that LEO's that are BLM rangers are deserving of any respect but to me it is a respect owed the uniform and badge. You don't buy a pass but I guarantee that you would be the first b*tch whining if you or your family member got injured severly enough for life saving assistance that "the BLM" wasn't on scene fast enough or quick enough to suit you. Well pal the LEO's deserve their pay and if you don't pay the fee's to use the area you will have no one to blame but yourself and the other folks who think the "Goverment " owes you something. There is no something for nothing in this world. I would respectfully suggest that you get over yourself and show some respect to the other people who do pay the fee's and play by the rules.

aceisback
Unfortunately the Obama administration has created another whole generation of these folks who think that the Government OWES them something. Doesn't matter how much you pay in taxes we all feel like we pay too much, but if you blatantly don't pay your use fees for the BLM areas then Karma will come around and visit you from time to time. If you didn't make up the game then you must play by someone elses rules. I actually appreciate the LEOs and Rangers being out there in some capacity. Keeps the n'er do wellers in check and the rest of us safer. How do you "forget" to buy a pass the last few years???

FE135
I have always been vocal about my disagreement with having to pay fees to use land that I already pay taxes on to use. The difference is instead of bitching about it online in a harsh manner, I let my elected officials get an earful and attempt to be respectful in my viewpoints. You will find most agree with you on the merits. I think you cross a line on the LEO’s. I happen to know a few of them, both San Berdo Sheriff and BLM Rangers and can tell you that they have a job to do that isn’t easy. Consider the dunes grow to the size of a small city and a handful of cops who work in excess of 12 hour shifts are needed to handle domestic cases, thefts, DRUNKS, and accidents. If you get stopped by one of them, perhaps you should consider what drew their attention to you in the first place and be compliant. Respect in your interaction with them will go a long way between a warning and a citation. I love how many guys I have seen get fired up about being questioned on an issue holding a beer in their hands with empties sitting on the seats. I have a picture of a guy shooting comp hill with a beer in his hand. Of the three times a cop came into my camp in all the years I have been going to Dumont, first time was legit (we had fireworks, gave us a warning), second, he had a question and we helped him, and the third, they were invited for photos. Not buying a pass is your call. You make the risk assessment on your choices. Don’t b*tch if you get caught, it IS your fault. mush
Man i have never seen so LEO's than this weekend, had 2 of them stop and chat with me both were very cool and respectful, the third came into camp checking for passes and was just doing his job and was cool as well. None of our group has ever had a negative run in with the LEO's out there

Iv hit a nerve..lol.. So.. You think I would be the First B***h to complain and that the goverment owes me..?? Is that right!?!? Listen up Slick!! Iv done more than my part for the goverment and our country. As for showing disrespect towards Law Enforcement.. The officer that was in our camp had my 10 year old crying over a F**king reg sticker.. He was way out of line to say the least.. I have been in Law Enforcement for 8+ years and I know first hand how to deal with kids.. He did not.. So why dont you lighten up ... . I feel the BLM should be reviewed by an outside L.E. agency and some of the officers retrained. Its not right for that officer to blow up on kids for not having proof of Registration on an off road vehicle, Than threaten to take their bikes away.. Yelling this... Save your Hero B.S.! Im glad you feel the need to voice your concerns and stand up for the BLM... They need tough guys like yourself on their side..Defending their actions. Hope you never have to deal with one of their unprofessional officers.. Thanks for your BLM support.. They need it..
rushjunkie
I always find it a little funny when someone boasts about how much money they make while complaining about a $30-$50 fee. With so much wealth to manage, why stress about this little fee too? You're there to chill.
ynot
So your in Law Enforcement and this is your attitude? I am sorry your son had a bad run in with a LEO, have you never had a bad day on the job and taken it out on someone else. Maybe that LEO was the one who had to tell the family of their loss on Friday night's incident at comp. A little slack might be a good attribute to learn.Well I know I have and I did 8 years in law enforcement. It does not make you any thing but another citizen when your out of your jursidiction. As for insulting me personally your not getting a cherry pal. I have stood besides BLM, against them and I am sure will do both in the future. However I have been stopped by LEO's out at Dumont who were transferred in from other areas (Like Glamis does). The only ones I had an issue was from Vegas where we know from living here have a bad attitude against off roaders. I kindly accepted my a$$ chewing and then offered his supervisor some information on his actions and words. Guess what, Vegas BLM does not come out to Dumont anymore. Not because of my complaint but from the large amount of complaints that went through channels. Coming on here and ranting against law enforcement at Dumont is not going to win you many friends. This web site and most of it's members do their best to fight to keep Dumont open and operate within the rules. They come to the clean up, they tie their trash down as their leaving and they try to do the right thing. Do we always succeed, nope but at least we try. I am totally unimpressed with your anger management issues and that you carry a weapon for a living. I see many IAB interviews in your future. If you want to complain about things at Dumont then I suggest you come to the Sub-group meetings held in barstow about every 3-4 months and voice your concerns in front of all of us that serve to make Dumont a better place. i mean with all your money you can afford to drive down the hill can't you? dunefreak
I agree and disagree with you, Dune Dad. I completely understand you're frustration towards certain law enforcement. Many of them have quite the power trip and do NOT know how to deal with certain situations. Some of them don't know how and when to address certain issues. Many of them are very unprofessional. Trust me, I have had my own run-ins with a few "bad apple" LEO's out at Dumont over the years and they definitely make you have a sh*tty attitude towards all of them. BUT, you can't. You have to remember that just because there are one or two bad ones that don't know how to professionally do their job, the rest of them are there to serve and protect us all the while dealing with more BS than we ever know or hear of. They are there doing their job. If you pay buy a pass, have all of your registration, follow the rules, etc etc...they are cool and don't harass you. If you take a step back and look at this situation, you might be overreacting just like that one bad cop. Let's just say hypothetically he dealt with some mouthy, disrespectful jerks right before you and then took out his aggression on your camp. Was it professional? No. Should he have handled your instance differently? Heck yes. Maybe you should do the same. What I'm getting at is you shouldn't stereotype the BLM because of one bad run in with a "bad apple" ranger. You seem to be no better than him in dealing with your anger. bp-guy
Wow, Someone has anger issues! I myself am in law enforcment (9 years) I go to Dumont to hang out with my friends and yes I play by the rules. Well......... except for this one time we lit off some fireworks, ( Pete was there watching the whole thing go down) I had just opened a new box of mortors and lit off the first one and my buddy yelled "Ranger", too late.... He came in lights on and came up to me. All I could do was laugh and ask him if he liked the show as I handed my box to him. He asked for my ID, I went to get it and as I handed it to him I told him what I do for a living. He was cool about it and let me off with a warning and he kept the fireworks. Now if I got a ticket would I have flamed him for not catching all the others? NO. I was wrong and got caught, plain and simple. The one or two bad cops make all the others look bad, how would you feel if the DADS got put into the same catagory. I see alot of bad dads and by your own admissinon your a father so you must be a BAD DAD!! Take a step back and count to 100 ( most of us are good at 3) and rethink your putting the LEO's in the same barrel before for go shooting in it. Maybe one of those bad cops might come to your rescue some day in the desert that you didn't buy a pass to enter in the first place. tatooedwhtboy
If your in Law Enforcement shouldnt you know to buy a pass and follow rules? you live in Big Bear? people visit Big Bear from all over, during all seasons. Ive been there many times and purchased the forest adventure pass. This LEO that was rude could be the one saving you or a family members life one day. Remember the movie CRASH? Matt Dillion played the part of a BAD Cop, In the end he ended up saving a womans life. If youve never seen it do yourself a favor and watch it! It may change your negative attitude. ninjagreengirl
Terry and Bill, we the dumont family have lost soooooo many loved ones in the past few weeks, lets stop take a breath and be thankful that we are all alive to be having these arguments and just agree to disagree at this point. I think that would be the best thing before anything more gets said here that cant be taken back. You both have very strong opinions, but lets just stop and be thankful that we are alive to have these opinions.
