JoeDuner
For all of you that have been to Glamis know they have the sand drags every afternoon on the weekends. How would we go about getting the same thing started at Dumont. It's one of my favorite things to watch and would add to the excitement. So, where would be the best place, and how do we get it going? I was thinking about the area to the far south of the big dunes.
dunefreak
What kind of drags are you talking about, Joe? Rails, quads, bikes, everything? I haven't been to Glamis, but are you talking about the "drags" you see in all the sand videos where all the crazy shiat is happening? What the heck is it called...Sand Hwy or somethin like that? :mc_smiley:
EY3BA11
The DRAGS are off gecko road by the ranger station in glamis... and its a giant parade of whos got the biggest fastest and baddest toys out there.... alot of fun to watch... If you keep it to the far south valley it is still possible to get trucks out there as well as dune toys and keeps it away from all the campers and general crowded population.. Don29palms
Run what you brung. Yeah it's just how you see it in the videos.
dunefreak
^^ Ohhhh ok. I think it would be alot of fun as long as it didn't turn into a crazy unsafe kinda thing. I bet if we just got everyone from the DDR camp and anyone else from the site to start going out there and just did it, it would start to get big. We have enough peeps on here that go to Dumont that it would be fun even with just with us at first. :mc_smiley: I bet anyone who saw it going on would join right in or at least pull up with their trucks during the afternoon. Let's try and get it started on Halloween maybe.

lindernglamis
The sand drags are great, always fun to watch. You are not only watching the drags but the idiots getting tickets for doing dumb stuff.
daknuckler
I think that would be a great Idea to have the drags. But I am not sure where to do it? As stated it has to be in an easy accessible place, but somewhere that is safe and away from camps. ? Dumont is not that big and gets pretty crowded. The strip out past comp is the only place i can think of but thats not easy to get to.
EY3BA11
The one on the south side of the dunes is easy to get too... if memory serves me right if you have a 4wd its very easy to get too... When i go out again ill check it out.. shouldnt be any diffrent than trying to get to Olds in a truck..
trickyLS-2racer
right on Our group has always wanted to get something like that started out at dumont !!! I think the flats ,south of comp were the jeeps have there drags would be cool It would be even better when a lip develops at the start line for a little air
1BADYFZ
i always wondered why the flat drgs didnet go on, but with so many hills why bother...and for draggers it's a diffrent game on hill to flats..bike set up i mean
JoeDuner
Let's try it every afternoon around 4:00 PM. Pete can you post a aerial map of the dunes so we can pinpoint a spot to try and get it going?

Vegas FX400
my bad, i thought someone had mentioned where they had the sand drags last year..........a simple missunderstanding.......i would think over where the bottom circle is would be a good spot....... HappyHour
I would think if the drags were on the south side of the dunes were ISBB has the blue circle would be best. Not only is it a big enough area to hang and watch the drags, but far enough away so where you aren't intruding on camps or what-not. Also, you could dune from the drags to comp and so forth..... Good idea ISBB!!!!!!!!!!!............. Also, 4x4 trucks could make it back there if they came from comp and around the back side of the dunes. racertim23
Guys/Gals, I enjoy the drags at Glamis when I watch from a few rows back. They get pretty crazy, great fun looking at cars/bikes/people. However, my feeling is to keep the crazy's at Glamis. The Rangers have a field day writing tickets at the drags. I cant imagine what will happen when a car breaks an axle and violently veers into a crowd. I have seen bikes and quads running, and buggy's in wheel stands right on their a$$. I know what kind of pressure the tree huggers are putting on closing the dunes, so I dont consider it wise to give them anymore fuel for the fire. Alot of people I talk to that typically go to Glamis always say the same things....Dumont is to small, no drags, to many witches eyes, older crowd. Its for three of those reasons why I go there. My point is, we should be careful for what we ask for. Hangin at Comp Hill and watchin cars/bikes/quads run in a much safer enviroment is cool with me. Maybe there is a hill at Dumont that is long enough to drag, and that we could roll over and return down a safe path, and yet allow people to sit back and watch safely?????? Do a search for drag videos at Glamis, and see if this is what we want our teenagers getting so excited about to go watch. Sorry for sounding so old(37), I just cringe at the thought of more people, accidents, dune closure. Think about the crowd that this would attract? Litter and more stupid people than you could fill a lake with. C'mon if you want Glamis style partying and shootings etc then make the trip there and leave Dumont to it's family oriented activities. OR you could just hang at the hill, because there's as much stupidity at night there as you will ever need. Remember you can't fix stupid and here's your sign!
