dune_rat
Just a heads up, a friend of mine had his rail impounded this weekend in Glamis. He had a sticker but no vin# on the car.
dunefreak
That's such crap. I almost had mine impounded down there once because the same reason. Seems they don't care about what the OHV laws are in NV and make up their own rules as they go. Before, all you would need is an out of state permit sticker. This was a few years ago too- before OHV registration was even brought up.
Adam @ GTP Off Road
maybe the NV OHV stickers will help out since people can get a VIN from the DMV if they don't have one. That blows the rail was taken though... hopefully they can get it back. I really hate California government. i even hate driving through it anymore, stupid 55mph while towing. dune_rat
He got it back but it cost him 700.00 in fees/fines. Also they had it for 2 days of a 4 day trip.

Sand_YFZ
Last time I was at Glamis they impounded 4 of Hansen Performance quads and they also had to pay some rediculous, inflated fines like that.
andydew
Yah, the glamis SS were out in force, like I haven't ever seen. I was at the drags on sunday, and although all my stuff is legal, I got outta there...I just don't want the hassle. The same thing is true in the commercial enforcement; out of state trucks get hassled, but with our new diesel emissions, us locals are now enjoying the bendover too :porn: . Sucks for your buddy, sounds like nothing but a money grab
sandawg
Time for clarification of Cali off road laws since I am going down to Glamis this month. I have a new vin number issued by nevada and a registration sticker issued by Nevada on my rail, registration on my rhino from Nevada. No title on either. Nevada is a non title state. Is Cali not going to recognize the Nevada off road sticker now. Someone in the know please respond!! No guesses or opinions please! Thanks, Pat Edited January 2, 2013 by sandawg
1320
whoa.....I havnt had to get into this, but I thought they were doing titles again? You mean you got a vin assigned but they still dont do a title? I just got my boy a new blaster (with title) but havnt been anywhere with it yet. It was his Christmas present. I thought I d be able to get a new title in my name on it? I thought I read that cali was not recognizing the nv ohv sticker? I did just read faq's and it said any state that has a ohv program would recognize the nv sticker. So when I get new stickers....I can just get nv stickers and NOT get CA stickers. Right? foolofsand
"Nevada is a non title state". Not a true statement. July 1, 2013 all that changes and titles will be mandatory. You can also get a Nevada title now if you have the correct paperwork. I got my registrations and now I will work on Nevada titles.

1320
Just a heads up, a friend of mine had his rail impounded this weekend in Glamis. He had a sticker but no vin# on the car. Isnt the only way to get a nv ohv sticker is to get a vin inspection or get a vin assigned? How did he get a sticker with no vin?
1320
I was just reading on pirate 4x4.....there is a nv guy that the dmv wants notorized bills of sales from each of the the previous three owners to issue him a title. It starts off as a good idea......then politics and red tape get to it and ruin it. Everyone says "yea but that way stolen stuff will be tracable" That would be a huge benefit but what I ve seen from law enforcement with a lot more money at stake is that they have no want or need to solve any case regarding stolen property. Thats a waist of their time, it doesnt pay. They simply impound the accidentally found items, then buy the good ones themselves at auctions no one ever hears about. I was personally involved in a home robbery investigation, that we found our own stuff, set up a "buy" of the items and the henderson pd where unbelievably incompetent. The thief latter got picked up ......and is currently doing time. Finding anyones stolen stuff has no money in it, like writing tickets for a flag, a light or sticker. Adam @ GTP Off Road
Damn it have to rewrite all this.... I am assuming at this point that the rail in question did NOT have a NV OHV sticker as it should be impossible to get a NV OHV sticker without a VIN#. California does reconize the NV OHV sticker. I did find this listed on websites. As of July 1st, 2013 all NV OHVs must have a NV OHV sticker, requiring a Vin inspection and/or Vin Assignment. As of July 1st, 2012, all OHV sales (after this date) to NV residents must have a NV title, and NV OHV sticker. part of the Reason for the title rules, is not all OHV owners can prove ownership to get a title. You must have an old title in your name or signed over, and/or a Valid bill of sale. I had bill of sale from Ride Now. Also, you must prove that NV taxes were paid, and there is a special form just to show the taxes paid, for sales AFTER July 1st, 2012. No proof of taxes paid is required for sales prior to July 1st, 2012. A VIN # and VIN inspection are required to get the NV OHV sticker and a title. For any OHV sold BEFORE July 1st, 2012 the owner MAY get a title if they so chose, and pay the one time title fee.
sandawg
Just knit picking on my part. Currently, Nevada is a non title state until July 2013 Don't get confused with the OHV Commission and the DMV. OHV handles all of the off road stuff except the title if I'm not mistaken Now that I have an assisgned VIN # I plan to get a tltle so I can get insurance on my equipment. Now the other question.....did the quads or the rail that were impounded have a non resident or Nevada or other state sticker on them? What law or regulation did they use to impound the equipment? Dune Rat, can you find out? Edited January 3, 2013 by sandawg

Johnny Cashman
Rangers where doing the same at dumont kicking the tires on everyone's cars searching for registration and stickers. One in particular that drives a white RZR S was being extra annoying at comp hill. They should be glad that they are being paid to cruise the dunes that we have to spend our hard earned money to enjoy. Also the sergent flipped one of our 4x4 quads that our tax dollars bought chasing that white ranger buggy through the dunes that they have no reason patroling at the speeds they do. If i flip my stuff and get injured then i have to rely on AFLAC while they would get paid for life. How can you have a stick up your butt when you have one of the best jobs. If anything they should be writing tickets to the mother fing people driving 100 mph around our camps so that our kids cant even ride outside of the trailers. Safety of my kid is more important then someones expired tags.
Johnny Cashman
When i was a kid i rode the fingers around my camp. Those where kid dunes. Buggies knew to stay away and be cautious around camp. Today karts and buggies wheelie jump and scream on these dunes as well as around campers. Rangers need to patrol these areas and give our kids the same good memories that we all have from our childhoods. And if you read this post and are one of those drivers who do this then take this as a warning that if the rangers don't do something then the ones who do this around my camp i will do something to. Btw I have zero bill of sales or proof of purchase on any of them Basically you can't get titles for them under current rules. You have no proof they are yours... More people keep saying how picky the DMV is being with giving titles. I know they were with me and I had the BOS from Ride Now. I am not sure what the answer is as even one bill of sale may not be enough. To my understanding the Staff that does all the stickers and titling is the DMV. The commission sets the rules and stuff, but this is a bit of a grey area for me i guess. I think the DMV runs the VIN and stickers, and titles though. based on mailing and phone conversations while getting my stickers. Also: Just to clarify Vehicles purchased after July 1, 2012 must be registered and titled within 30 days of the purchase : http://nvohv.com/registration/
Adam @ GTP Off Road
Resource: http://ohv.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=26294 What If I Am Visiting From Another State? [/url] 1) Q: A: I will be traveling to California from another state to ride my OHV. Do I need California OHV registration (Green or Red Sticker)? If you are a resident of another state and your OHV has valid registration from that state, you do not need a Green or Red Sticker or a California Nonresident OHV Use Permit. If your OHV does not have valid registration or the equivalent from your home state, you will need to get a California Nonresident OHV Use Permit. A title is not registration. For states bordering California, the Oregon OHV Permit, the Nevada OHV Registration Decal, and the Arizona OHV Decal meet the requirement for OHV registration by residents of those states. States that do not have an OHV registration program are: Alabama Kansas South Carolina Alaska Kentucky South Dakota Florida Mississippi Tennessee Georgia Nebraska Virginia Hawaii North Carolina West Virginia Illinois A non-resident with an OHV from one of these states must purchase the California Nonresident OHV Use Permit to operate on California's public lands. A non-resident from the remaining 34 states need not purchase California's permit as long as they can provide valid proof that they have a current registration or their home state's equivalent for their OHV. If a nonresident cannot provide valid proof of possessing such a document, they must purchase the California Nonresident OHV Use Permit. sandawg
LIfe is to short to argue Rap. All I know is that DMV sent me to a dealer to have the vin inspsection on the Rhino and the rail and all my forms went to the OHV Commission and all mail had a return address for the OHV Commission that sent me the vin sticker and the registration sticker. Now I haven't done the title thing yet and it may well be DMV. I don't know yet!

There will be a lot of people without bill of sale proof, and even with a current private sale, that bill of sale might not be enough it seems... crazy
