sandahauler
It looks like I will be going to Dumont for the first time over T-Day. Could someone add to my map where the dunes are and also where Tecopa is. I will be driving down through Vegas and thought of trying the route through Tecopa you are talking about. Thanks
dunefreak
It looks like I will be going to Dumont for the first time over T-Day. Could someone add to my map where the dunes are and also where Tecopa is. I will be driving down through Vegas and thought of trying the route through Tecopa you are talking about. Thanks Here is about where Tecopa is on the map you posted... Take a look at this map...click here If you are coming from Vegas here are the directions going the Tecopa way... Take 160 towards Pahrump. After you go over Mt Springs, continue down 160 (downhill for a ways, then a slight uphill small grade). Look for the Tecopa turnoff to the left. Stay on that until you go through Tecopa and then eventually hit HWY127 at a stopsign. Turn left and take that about 15-20 miles I believe. Then turn left on the gravel rd (Dumont Dunes Rd). There will be a sign. "Dumont Dunes" pointing to the left shortly before the turn. Hope this helps. Going through Baker is a little smoother and straighter, but it takes longer. mineurbiz
If you live in the North or Northwest, it is about 2 hour if you go like you are headed to Amargosa and make the turn to Pahrump, the nice thing is you can get gas in Pahrump. I have a short bed pulling a 39' hauler so I need gas when I am only getting 10 MPG. The roads are nicer to unlike Tecopa and that switch back and dips in the road.
