desertrider71
Went out today. Rained most of the way out but stopped once we got settled in. Pulled up by GTP Mike. Pete came up, welcomed us and we chatted for a while. Put the paddles on the car and went for a spin. About 15 minutes in to the run I smoked another 2 coils and was done. My son in law went for some rides in his RZR then we loaded up. Didn't talk to many people but a lot of the usual suspects were out again. Wish I could have went on some runs with everyone but the seriously not so Fun-co still needs some love ! Looked like a great camp ! DuNe~Rydher
Stef and I had a great time at the Buggy Round Up. Everyone from DDR was so awesome, we walked up to the fire Friday night after setting up, not knowing ANYONE and were greeted with a warm welcome. A few beers and a fun game later and we felt like we had known everyone all along. Saturday morning Stef and I woke up and went on a run to see how the new paddles worked and make some fresh tracks in the wet sand, the weather was gorgeous after the AM rain cleared, it was a great way to start the day. After some breakfast and a monster everyone was gearing up for the "DDR" run. Wow what a run! Fast run, and great lines! I had to push the RZR hard to keep up with everyone but that's what made it so fun. Stef was white knuckling the oh sh*t bar the whole time and my right ear is still ringing from her yelling at me lol. We spent most of the day in the dunes trying to get in every minute of riding we could. When the sun went down satuday night sh*t got real haha. We had a blast playing flip cup, I think "Team ******* Awesome" holds the belt! Pete's probably laughing his a$$ off right now watching the footage he got with his gopro! Sunday I was moving a little slow and we decided to pack it up and head home to get some rest before the long work week. Thanks to Pete for putting this shindig together, it was great meeting you all (way to many people to try to list!) and making awesome new friends. Until next time!

dunefreak
Holy crap what an awesome weekend. Huge thanks to everyone who was able to make it out. I had a ton of fun and met some great new faces. It was too bad so many of the usual crew couldn't make it out this time, but there will be another one soon. We still had a huge turnout. The circle was probably just as big as last year, just a few less buggies. Anna and I rolled in Wednesday night. The place was empty except for 2 camps. One of those camps was right smack dab where I told everyone we'll be too. So I pulled up next to them. Yep, I was "that guy". lol I thought it was quite funny. As I was unloading I could hear everything they were saying. "This moron has this whole place and parks right here!" LOL! Anyways, it was nice getting there early and having some quiet, dune time. Dumont is so relaxing. Jordan pulled in Thurs morning and unloaded his sweet new Funco. Very nice car. We went for a great run through the dunes and then his battery started acting up pretty bad at the end. That was a bummer plus he had to leave on Friday. Hope to meet up again soon, bud! More and more DDR people started flowing in Thursday night then Friday. I got a few great runs in with my car until Friday at sunset my 3rd gear let go. That sucked big time because I was really looking forward to duning on Saturday with everyone. That was like the best day. The sun came out and it was gorgeous. The broken buggy didn't ruin our day though thanks to great company. I got to drive dent boy's badass Tatum for a little bit. Even pulled some nice wheelies across the face hill. Man, you V8 guys have it too easy! lol Thanks for letting my drive your car, Chad. And big thanks to LouB & 80grit for cruising Anna and I around in your buggies. The dunes were wet all weekend. Even with some gusts from time to time there was no drying them out. That wet sand is unpredictable at times. I thought I was taking it pretty easy but apparently not because not only did we break our trans but 3 others had similar issues. 2 trannies, an engine and a stub axle/ hub bearing. Flip cup went WAY better than I even imagined. haha Damn that was fun and yes Stephen the GoPro footage is hilarious. I'll have to just upload the whole damn thing to YouTube or something. lol I have a ton of pics to go through and post but here are a few that I took with my phone on Thursday.
sand chick
I thought I was going to be out of this trip as my parents from Alaska were arriving on Friday morning. My Alaska dad had been to the dunes before when he was staying with me for a time back in 2006 when I lived in Yucca Valley. So when they pulled into the house on Friday, right after the hello's the next words were "when we headed to Dumont?" So the plan was set... relax Friday and head on out Saturday morning! My mom and little brother had never been to the dunes before, so it was going to be fun to take them out. My little brother is 11yrs old and an Aleutian Indian (Eskimo) so he has never seen sand like this before! We rolled in and joined Mike, who had been out there since Friday evening. And it was unpack, toss on the helmets and lets GOOOO for a ride! I got to drive the new XP1K with my little bro for his very first ride ever through the dunes and my Alaska dad jumped in the rail with Mike for his first ever long travel sand rail ride! With JoeDuner leading, we headed out with a couple others on a great ride to the North Pole... My little bro is from near North Pole, Ak, so it was really cool to have him at the North Pole, Dumont Dunes, Ca. They both got out of the vehicles grinning from ear to ear, looking like ----> Of course their first ride had to be one of those epic sunset rides! My mom stayed back in camp and introduced herself around, she really enjoyed meeting everyone and said everyone was nice and welcoming. Settled in for the night, had some dinner, headed out to the campfire, played some games and enjoyed the campfire and general camp antics Got up early next morning and repeated, I hopped on my quad for the day, so they had to take turns riding with Mike. The highlight of my day on Sunday was when my Mom decided it was her turn to ride in the sand rail with Mike for her first ever ride through the sand dunes. We started out the ride by joining Pete to put up Bert's memorial. Mike tested out the waters on the way over, to see how my Mom would react to being in the car. Then it was off to take her on a run, with wheelies, jumps and 4th gear pinned! Mike said my Mom was giggling like a little girl the whole time!!!! We stayed late and enjoyed the dunes as long as we possibly could and headed home just before sunset! It was a great weekend! Thank you Pete for putting this weekend together!!!!! Some pics from the trip!
Jakster884
Well I had the chance to make it out for the night. Was going to head out Friday but the rain kept me in until Saturday morning. Been year since my last trip and I needed this badly. Great company and good times. Never go home without having a good time. Great seeing all the familiar faces and meeting new peeps. Had a couple nice runs and I will be back soon.

BearsZX72
It was a fun trip! Glad that we where able to make it. Glad to meet people face to face. Everyone was very nice and made us feel welcome and NOT outsiders (which the wife loved)! Had a few runs on the buggy and found a new problem. Looks like the clutch, not the transmission. Really looking forward to the next Buggy Roundup! Again, thanks to Pete for getting this going and everything! Had a blast! See you all next time!
nas6car
glad you guys all had a good time. we were out there the weak before hard to break tires loose in sand. I found out that ultimate traction = un exposed weakness in sand cars but once fixed your cars should be bullet proof in regular conditions. good luck
dunefreak
Ok here come the pics. I've got alot so I'm going to split them up in multiple posts. Thursday morning...all to ourselves. Jordan showed up and we went duning. This was the only day the sand was dry and soft. The rain would come down heavy in the middle of the night on Thursday. The new big screen and wirelessly paired phone/ tablet setup worked out flawlessly for shows and movies. No, that's not a porno. It's "Just go with It" with Adam Sandler. That afternoon Anna and I headed up to the memorial hill to scout out a good spot to place our friend, sanddunesaddict's, memorial. The BLM included the memorial hill in the fencing project a couple years ago. It's a good thing so the memorials don't get run over or destroyed. There is a walk thru opening in the fencing so duners can hike up to the top. Other memorials Found a perfect spot and started clearing some rocks away for the foundation & plaque to be set on Sunday. Then we cruised out to the South Pole to watch the sunset Anna humping the south pole That sunset was awesome I had to stop one more time for a couple more pics. That night a bunch of others rolled in and we stayed warm around the fire. @@duniemonkie
dunefreak
Thursday night the rain came down pretty good. We all tried to keep our seats dry. @@nwtdiesel showed up for a day trip after some technical difficulties, but he made it! We waited out the weather for a little bit. Lou B chopped wood. Then we said screw it. Let's dune! We stopped off at comp hill after a gooood long run through all of the dunes. We headed back to grab a bite to eat and see if anyone else showed up to get another run in with them. Glad we did. Painter Joe & dent boy showed up. We waited for them to get ready. The sun poked out for a minute which made for some cool looking dunes. Then off we went. We didn't make it very far when I heard a pretty bad noise in 3rd gear. Damn it. I pealed off and informed everyone I was done. painter joe checking on my situation I decided to putt back to camp in 2nd gear so everyone could finish the ride. A few guys followed me back to make sure I made it. Not needed but appreciated. Thank you, guys. cruising back After getting back to camp there were storms off in the distance but no rain at Dumont at the moment. Then a volcano erupted! Just kidding, but those clouds made it look like it. We chatted for a bit around the fire with Glenn and family. Then BAM, it started pouring! lol Those guys were still out in the dunes getting hammered with rain. hahaha That night the rain finally stopped. A good chunk of the rest of the crew arrived and we set up the party tent then enjoyed some campfire. That night, Sandy the whore elf made another appearance. We gave her a wooden turd and a "no oil" necklace. Don't ask. LOL
dunefreak
Saturday morning bp-guy & I cruised up on the dunes to take in the view and grab a pic of camp. Since Newly could only make a day trip, we had to rub it in that the sun was out yet he wasn't. We sent him this pic. hahahaaa Then we went for another big group ride. The dunes were still wet but the sun was out and it was super nice! I bummed a ride in Dent Boy's Tatum and Anna grabbed the spare seat in Lou's car. Then painter joe's luck ran out and he had issues too. Lou B towed him back. I grabbed a pic for him to be a nice guy. Joe gestured I was #1 for doing so. Then, being a passenger and not having to worry about driving for the rest of the day, I started drinking. Another group run was in order. Everyone suited up. Lindsay B led this run. Anna and I rode passenger in 80grit's car. Then Lindsay broke Lou's car. No worries though. She was limo'd away back to camp in Quadrocket's car so she didn't have to deal with the inconvenience LOL kidding of course. We all had a good laugh when Lou said something to that effect. We still had some running buggies though...Ben, Dent Boy, Tracy/ Firecracker, and 80grit. 80grit I really wished my car wasn't broke, but it sure was nice just being a passenger for once and enjoying the ride. Then we helped Lou fix his car by cracking jokes while he worked. Got her a lil warm Then I grabbed some shots of 80grit and DentBoy playing around. Then Speedracer Mike let a little bit of duning before we headed back to camp. Back at camp. Glenn's car matched the backdrop in the sky Saturday's sunset. Ricardo took the quad out for his first ever ride. Then White Rhino smoked a cigar from a foot

dunefreak
Sunday morning the group went for a ride and I decided to set up shop and pull my trans out so I could send it off to Cali with Jakster to drop with Krusty for a rebuild. Then we all cruised up to the memorial hill to set up sanddunesaddict's memorial. We did a toast to Bert with some shot's of milk in his honor. One for our homie! Miss you buddy. I say from now on every Buggy Roundup we go visit Bert's memorial and go for a good group ride to follow. He would love that.

dunefreak
The video is too much to deal with, but the time lapse of the ~2hrs of flipcup are kinda funny to watch. I condensed it down to 20 seconds.

dunefreak
Not just flip cup, overall. It might have been less, but it was a while.
White Rhino
The pattern I see is the TEAM on the left was consistent (never left the table) the team on the right you can tell when there winning they stick to the table, and when they loose (they lost allot) they leave lol. Then there's friggen one flip Charlie (aka fuggin firecracker) lol was ALLOT. If fun for sure
