dunefreak
Just an FYI, this is a first for the BLM. Meetings are usually on a Tuesday morning in Barstow and very difficult for everyone to attend so if you have any questions or concerns, plan to be there. They do this for the duners. Yes, they finally come to us at a very convenient time and I will be very curious as to how few people actually make the effort to attend. The attitude will also be something to keep an eye on. Hopefully it is well attended and we are well received. Be nice to have a different relationship than what has been in the past. Time will tell. Fingers are crossed. dunefreak
I was unable to attend since my day trip to Dumont got canceled, but here is an update from @sand chick. Quote 2 of us representing GTP Off Road attended the Dumont Dunes Sub Group meeting today. We wanted to give a voice to our concerns about what is happening with thehigher powers of who makes the rules, how the money is spent. Usually these meeting are held on Tuesday mornings, 3 times a year in the Barstow BLM Field office. We wanted to make the effort to be there, since they made the effort to change it to be more public, duner friendly. The meeting was very interesting and informative. They listened to our concerns. Maybe something will come of what was said, maybe they won't. But at least there was a small gathering of duners there voicing there concerns. We wished there would have been a larger dune community in attendance. Some of the topics discussed: Single day passes Second vehicle passes The road maintenance, when to start maintaining, how often Vendor Row limitations The coning off of dunes Fireworks enforcement Camp racing, more enforcement Clean up to not fall on the mint 400 weekend Solar light at entrance road Cell tower There are a couple of positions in the Dumont Dunes Sub Group open: NV OHV Enthusiast and Biological/Science Issue chair person ******************************************* Next sub group Saturday March 18, 2016 at the same location at the BLM area in Dumont... It was voted, clean up at 8am, sub group meeting at 12pm. Please come help keep the dunes clean and then give your concerns a voice.
sand chick
It was great that they came out to the dunes. Very informative. One of the other things I forgot to mention was the worm holes aka: kiddie tracks. If you know where one is let them know at the blm station. They will bring the tractor over and fix it right away. So that no one gets hurt. I hit a deep one right on the finger dune, by br #3 where a group had let their kids go up and around until it was probably 3 or more feet deep in two separate spots right through the finger. Those things are killers... Happy I didn't break something!
sand chick
I really wished more duners would have shown up. The next meeting there should be more, since they will combine clean up and the sub group. Adam from GTP Off Road is going to apply for the vacant NV OHV Enthusiast position.
nas6car
thanks Jodi for getting me in the picture. even though it was a small turn out the meeting was kind of intimate and not a big gripe session. these are our dunes people, we need to get a better turn out the next meeting in March
