dunefreak
It's hot! What is everyone up to? How are you staying cool? What trips do you have planned? Where's your summer escape?
aceisback
Working OT this weekend but just got back last night from my first ever trip up to Pismo Beach. Had heard horror stories and b*tches, moans, and complaints about the place and just kinda needed to see for myself. Granted it's not Dumont, and Dumont is not Glamis, Glamis is not Little Sahara Utah, and Little Sahara Utah is not Saint Anthony's Idaho.... But, it is sand and it was a six hour drive so I made the best of it. It is what you make it! Matter of fact I may go back someday. Something about highs in the low to mid 60's has an appeal when it is in the 110's where you live. $5 for a day trip, $10 per day if you're overnighting. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a safe and relaxing summer, and I hope to see you out at D when the cooler temps roll around.

Where's your summer escape? My summer escape has always been the Big Bear/Green Valley Lake area. Always 20/30 degrees cooler than down below! Just came back from another trail run. Dishpan Springs trail 3N34 from Arrowhead to Crab Flats. Tough run. Popped a bead but was able to reseat it. Some pics:

dunefreak
Anna and I are hitting up our favorite band tomorrow night (The Dirty Heads) at Mandalay Beach here in Vegas, celebrating my 41st birthday on Saturday, then we're hitting the road for the next 8 or 9 days in our Sprinter van. We'll be heading to Mammoth Lakes area, maybe Yosemite, then Lake Tahoe and we'll see from there. We have no agenda other than to enjoy some cooler weather, drink some cold beer, & do some mountain biking.
aceisback
Yosemite ain't no maybe! That's a must do. And while you're in the area Kings Canyon is much more majestic and waaaay less crowded. Have fun though, sounds like a nice trip.

I say maybe to Yosemite because I hate crowds. The last time I was there it was awful. We may just pop in via the Tioga Rd and see a couple spots instead of going into the village. Sold the RZR and switched teams to the Can Am X3. Whole nother animal, can't wait to dune it. From 110hp N/A motor to 200hp turbo (tuned of course) and long travel to tear up the sand, and a fully lockable front diff to conquer Moab. Still isn't a rail, but it's good for year around fun with the fam.

aceisback
We've done back to back to back exercises here aboard the base this summer so time has flown since it's so busy, and lots of OT, but its rough on an old body. My daughter booked me some depravation chamber flotation sessions since I am too stubborn to slow down on my own, and can't get mellow (smoke weed) cuz Uncle Sam says so. I made me a little sound track for while I'm in the chamber that starts and ends with this song. Helps drift me off and then bring me back as the session ends. So, in the theme of summer, take four minutes out of your busy lives and get mellow with me for a moment.
sand chick
I've managed to get out of the heat of Vegas a couple of times... Did 36 miles on the John Muir Trail, this was my first time in the Sierra's, just three girls. Backpacking with girls is a completely different monster then backpacking with dudes, conversations about face cream and make-up and fingernail paint vs. poop, body smell and farts... Lol.. I think I would rather talk about poop... Although it was pretty empowering being 3 female's, trekking into bear country, without the security of a male... We hit up three passes over 10,000 ft and Donahue Pass was 13, 075 ft. The wildflower were crazy! The high mountain lakes were breathtaking. With my usual guys, we trek longer miles and faster paces. So it was nice to take our time and take photos. Here are a few of my favorites...
