ash Posted January 11, 2007 Share Posted January 11, 2007 As the topic title states, I am offering a $500 reward to anyone who can tell me who did this. Basically my wife was at a doctor appointment on Wigwam and Pecos this afternoon from 1:00pm until around 1:45pm. Some bastards decided to break into her Yukon and steal a 15 inch LCD drop down monitor for her video system, 3 envelopes containing checks written for utilities and some other odds and ends stuff. Here's the way it works, the thief will walk up to your vehicle, stick and screwdriver right under the lip of your door handle. After prying it down, they will then slide the lock to the unlock position and they have entry into your vehicle. The police said it is common and takes less than a second to get in a vehicle this way. The Chevy and GMC models are particularly vulnerable because of the way the door hand is shaped. Below are pictures of the door and damage that was caused. If someone hears about some azzholes running around breaking into vehicles this way and can give me information leading to my stuff, I will let that person remain nameless, no questions asked, the money is theirs...no questions asked, you have my word. I am not looking to take the law into my own hands, I am just looking to see if I can get a person that did this and let the police do their jobs. Okay, here are the pictures of the door. Luckily they were not sucessful and were scared off somehow. I also had a customer that had this done in a casino parking garage w/ 8grand in damages. I paid around 400bucks for the repair, not going through insurance. They do make a plate that can be position so that this can not happen again, just don't remember were on the internet I found them. Posted January 11, 2007 Share Posted January 11, 2007 if you dont ever use the key, install a rear door handle (has no lock cylinder) and remove the lock rod from the door when getting the repair done. this will visually deter people. sombody tried this at the lake on my old truck. people have balls to do this stuff in the wide open daylight. They better hope I don't ever catch them breaking into either my stuff OR someone else's! offroadracer Posted January 11, 2007 Share Posted January 11, 2007 (edited) Sorry to hear about that..Thieves suck!!!! working @ a body shop I see hundreds of thes break ins ..Ford also is the same way they pry under the handle and bend or tear the door skin but the handle breaks..so if ya have a ford they can get in the same way and only the f-150 have a diode internally in key so it wont start the f-250 and f-350 s dont so it can be started if the ignition is broken, just a heads up to the ford owners ..anyway sorry for the loss suck to have your property destruyed by some piece of sh!t...f#ckin thieves!! The idiots that broke into my Burb busted out the glass on the passenger side! Didn't take anything but a damn disposable lighter, not even the loose change in the console they rummaged through!! This appears to be a really good idea / deterent. I never use my key. I bet most of us don't. Without the key latch the would be thief probably would move on. Since the bastards who decide to do this slide the locking mechanism to the unlock position, the factory alarm does not register this as a break-in since the door is being unlocked.
