so i pulled my oil pan and checked my oil pump .Its cracked in half !!! no debris in the pan no metal in the magnet , pickup tube pickup screen or bottom of the pan. i watched the oil pressure drop and i shut it off.

now i needed to go back to westech cause i have a temp problem and when its cold it coughs alot. could the cough have actually broke that pump or a bad casting or ??????

any ideas :headbang1:

how old is the motor? could it have been torqued down improperly causing the break.

Atleast you found out before any real damage occurred.

TIME TO UPGRADE and get more go fast goodies...

if you have a ls or lt engine in that car, then id bet a good amount of money that it was a bad casting oil pump if its the melling pump thats in there. Because melling has re-designed their oil pump housings (basically they took material off of them and they ended up too week. and they are cracking in high horsepower applications.) they changed their design about 4 years ago. so my advice, go get another brand of oil pump. i had a melling high volume in my 383, after hearing about this, i pulled the pan and there was a crack starting in the case!!!!

well, i meant any small block chevy. yea, if its a 383, 99% of those motors are built with mellings. and thats youre problem bob.

So Bob. Are you gonna just throw a new pump at it and see what happenes then?

yes and no ,i pulled the thrush washer bearing it started to break down small little shards had started to form but nothing broke off. im going to do a diesel trick and roll in a new set of mains and double check the rods im going to sell this motor perioud end. i want that 572.

i wont know the final results till i check the rods. i might have to say fk it and sell the blower and heads on e bay and scrap the rest, if there is any major damage. not sure yet, but i have one more trip to do. i would like it to run :ahhhhh:

like i said the magnet in the man has no metal. the pump shows no metal. bottom of pan shows no metal.

thrust washer looks ok except for the outer edge where it started to turn into shards.

i wish wouldnt have ran over my camera so i could post it :dance:

p.s. off road racer you are SO going to be in the next as the sand blows when im feelling better :DDRrocks:
