How far is it from the dunes?? I hear that the Indian Reservation somewhere out there is the best place to get them...But I've never been to Pahrump so I dunno? :dunno: I also come from the south on i15 so I've never been beyond the dunes. Anyhow, do any of you know how far it is from the dunes, and if it's worth the drive to look for the indian reservation? I don't really plan on using them in Dumont, more so in Glamis whenever I get the chance to get out there :freakin_nuts: .

I'n not sure exactly how many miles, but Pahrump isn't that far from Dumont. I'd have to say about a 30-40 minute drive.

In Pahrump there are many places that have them. There seems to be a little more selection and they also have many buy 1 get 1 free deals too.

About an hr. drive, one big store on your right when you get into town, keep going and turn right at the light and the next one is on your left, can't miss them. While here visit the casino's, we need more schools and roads!

Okay cool! :freakin_nuts: I heard that they're the size of small supermarkets :D . I will stop by one, the next trip we're there in Dumont! btw, are there any stops on the highway back, similar to the agricultural check point on the 15fwy? Cuz I know California don't really like them fireworks? Also, is the Ind.reserv. out of the way?

  • 3 months later...

Okay so it's about that time now (Thanksgiving) and we'll be making the trip out there! Just to clarify, Pahrump is off the 178 to 372 coming from dumont right?? And the firework shops are easy to find? Also, how close are the Casinos when entering the city of Pahrump??? Been searching for casinos around there online and haven't found much info? Thanks! :driver:

ITs an hour away I go gamble and get fireworks also, be careful they are "wholesale" stores and you have to sign paper work name address and that you will have them out of town in 24 hrs, also that you will not light any in that county. First store on right is best they have alot of 2 for 1 deals good luck! :driver:

if your going from dumont take the dirt road back the the highway instead of left to baker head right to shoshone... once in shoshone follow the sign bearing right to pahrump.. once over the hill and in the town you will find them.. Once @ the stoplight with teh walmart and terribles and little casino and all that fun crap hang a right and a lil ways down on your left is one..

I think we purchased from Phantom Fireworks. They made us fill out some form like a license or something. We didn't have an issue with them, since we have a homeowners association and we don't light them off at our house (we'd prefer to do this at our friend's houses - LOL)! Anyway, they had some buy one get one free deal. Much better than that other place on the way to Utah.

BE CAREFUL OF THAT agriculture check on the 15!! We had our hauler searched coming home last superbowl weekend, even though we told them we were at dumont.

They took about 10 minutes in the hauler and the truck...they didnt make us pull over though.

its a stiff fine in CA getting caught with illegal fireworks..... $1000 dollars

I think its a form saying you agree not to light in an unlegal area :driver: and that you are transporting them to a legal state

Really???? :freakin_nuts: I didn't know that they really stopped anyone there??? I actually never been stopped at that check-point. I wonder what they were looking for in your t.hauler??

Anyhow, sounds like most people don't have any problems bringing them back when it's not around the 4th of July.

funny thing was they had a horse trailer stopped in front of us, and I was all, " come the fk on already."

well, what do you know? the stopped me too. had me get out of the truck, open the ramp and side door (ranger was in the hauler , and you couldn't get from the back to te front).

they told me they were lookin for fruit and vegetable related items when i iasked them what they were lookin for......

while I was waiting, they made a guy pull over to the side with a 20+ foot enclosed trailer too

Remember one thing.. when you buy fireworks in Nevada and take them to Cali, you are crossing state lines and now it becomes a FEDERAL issue. On Memorial day, I was stopped just north of Baker in the high performance race Ranger..... Not only the local Sheriff, but Fire Dept, Bomb Squad AND ATF was checking all the vehicles.

Now, take the time to think about where you light them off. Since So. Cal has burned to the ground, officials are a little nervous at the sight of illegal fireworks... may end up on the wrong side of a service .40...

Here is some information for you all. I learned this the hard way so I am certain of it's accuracy.

1st: It is not illegal to buy the fireworks in NYE County.

2nd: It IS illegal to light them off in Nye County, Clark Co., or California.

3rd: It is illegal to transport them across county and state line.

4th: It is a FEDERAL Crime to transport an 'explosive' device across state lines.

5th: Dumont is governed by the BLM which is a Federal Agency so federal laws apply.

6th: The initial/lowest fine is $75 to $500. It is at the LEO's discretion.

7th: At the LEO's discretion, you can be charged with; transportation across state lines, possession, and use of an 'explosive device', all of which can be federal felonies with heavy fines or jail time.

Also, on a different note, you do not have to allow a search of vehicle with out probable cause. A traffic stop for speeding and such does not constitute probable cause and you have the right to refuse a search. Do not allow the law enforcement officers tell you otherwise. With out valid probable cause, you have a right against search. This I also know first hand as I was driving back on route 160 just before the 4th of July and was stopped. After a very long wait on the side of the road, and several State Police, BLM Rangers and Metro showed up, I was allowed to leave with out a search as no warrant was issued and no legal probable cause was cited. An exception to this is the Agri. Check Points.

I would advise against the use of fireworks at Dumont. Just find a good spot on one of the high hills and watch the show that others are willing to take the risk to put on.

they could detain you until they could get a bomb-sniffing dog out to your location, then you would have been in deep doo doo..

shoulda coulda woulda

now that I have a family, house, nice things and good friends in high places, i'm not much of a risk taker anymore....i like your idea about watchin!!!

Yeah, it was something like that. We've not taken fireworks in California. We just got some a couple years ago for 4th of July (we bought them in May). I see illegal fireworks all the time in Dumont. If it's such a crime, then why aren't the sherriff's doing anything about it? On Halloween some people were doing roman candles (or something that flew vertically and then horizontally) towards the campsites. I couldn't see over the finger dunes if they had the sherriffs pay them a visit, but it was definitely a hazard.

In Gordons Well the sheriff's sit back and enjoy the light show, unless someone is endangering themself or others. we all enjoy it and I like watching others do it, its easier on my wallet!!

And as to the dogs coming to sniff out the fireworks. If your kept at the side of the road for an unusually long length of time that is construed as an arrest. Atleast for us it is. If they can't base anything to get into your ride then they have to cut you loose. But if the dog is 10 minutes out then your screwed!!
