ynot
This was sent to the executive board of the Friends of Dumont Dunes. As an organazition we do not have the financial ability to assist these folks but we feel justified in putting the information out there for anyone who wants to help. Please take all needed precautions in making any donations by calling the author of this post and/or following up on the information. FoDD will have a donation jug at the clean up for anyone who wants to donate to their cause. Looks like it will be a real long road for them. Thanks for reading Terry Hello, I am emailing you to ask for your help. We had some friends in Dumont on the 28th. of January that were in a buggy accident. It was a husband and wife their names are Darren and Chauna Pinnerman. Darren was lucky only suffering a shoulder injury. Chauna on the other hand was air lifted to the hospital with a broken back and is now paralyzed from the waist down. I have all of the specifics as far as Dr. Info and and exact description of her injuries. They have done surgery and she has been transferred to a rehabilitation center where they live which is Las Vegas, Nevada. Her insurance has covered all costs so far. Chauna had a specialist come in and look at her records and talk to her and her husband. She has been told that she is GOOD candidate for a procedure that her insurance will not cover. While the doctors that have worked on her so far have told her she will n! ever walk again, this doctor is very interested in Chauna and tells her there is a chance she could walk. The pocedure the doctor is referring to is called Molecular Magnetic Energy. The procedure is currently under investigation by the FDA for Approval. Apparently it is pretty close to being approved, but until then her insurance will not cover this treatment. Her treatment with this facility will have to be out of pocket. The doctors have estimated her treatment at needing 300-600 hrs. of therapy and at the rate of $50.00 per hour. I am emailing you guys to ask if there is anyway there can be a donation fund set up for this family. I have looked into setting up a foundation for the family, but it will take 6 months. This doctor says that he would like to get Chauna started on this treatment within 4-6 weeks, this Saturday will make 4 weeks. This couple has 4 c! hildren and before the accident they both worked FULL&n bsp;TIME jobs to pay their bills and Chauna was going to school to become a Dental Assistant as well. Darren has everything they own for sale trying to raise enough money to get Chauna to this faciliy, however the items they own and are selling is not going to be enough. I know I have been on sites where I see Donations being collected for families in need, Well this family NEEDS and I am asking for help on their behalf. We are all Avid dune riders. So I thought I would ask you guys for some help. Thanks so much for your time, if you would like to talk to me I live in California my phone number is 1-951-769-2340, or I have a cell number 1-760-343-1029. I will wait to hear from someone, Thanks Again. Lisa Latchford
dunefreak
That is very sad to hear, Terry. You are right. that could very easily be any one of us. I am willing to help them out as I am sure a bunch of others from DDR will if they are able to. :rainbow1:
Don29palms
I don't mean to be skeptical but I'd want to make sure this is legitimate before any donations are made.
ynot
I don't mean to be skeptical but I'd want to make sure this is legitimate before any donations are made. That's why I put the disclosure about checking things out. Since they are from Vegas I thought posting it someone might recongize the name and validate the story. I ran a search on the treatment and it is out there but not very much information. I to want to make sure the $ is helping. I am calling the e mail writer tomorrow and I will let you know what I find out.

SandBox_Kid
That's why I put the disclosure about checking things out. FYI - not that it makes a difference....there are no real property/mobile home/marriage records for any Pinnerman here in Clark County....but that just means they don't own property/mobile home/ and weren't married here after 1984. Wish I knew if this was legit. Edited February 25, 2006 by cmyfirepole
ynot
Just a heads up, I have called the author of this post at both numbers listed and have not received a return phone call. I would be very careful at this juncture about donating any funds until it becomes a little clearer about who these folks are and if events really occurred. Just wanting to stay on top of this post. FYI Terry
Don29palms
I'm sorry about being skeptical about this stuff but there are too many people out there trying to scam money from good people. I hope this is not a scam but it sure looks like it is. PLEASE EVERYBODY BE CAREFUL WHO YOU GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO. If you feel the need to just give money away you can just give it to me. I will make sure it gets put to good use. :headbang:
iweb
It can go both ways, last year a friends son wrecked out at Dumont and broke his back, had a nice chopper ride into Vegas. They did not have insurance so I got on all the atv and dune sites I could find asking for donations and there was even a bank account set up for them. 90% of the replys were negative remarks saying it was a scam or the kid was too young or the family was stupid for not having insurance. The 10% that said they would help never did, not a single person donated. Thank God the boy healed and just had to wear a body cast and is now ok and the family is making payments on over $80K in bills. Back when it happened it looked like the boy would never walk. So, if this story is legit I say help out whatever you can but like others suggest, check it out first. I offered to have people visit my friends in the hopital but no one would take me up.
