LV Raptor
the big boys are cookie cutter cars. pull the tubing off the rack and place it in the right spot and wld it in were as a smaller builder put them together one at a time I'll stick to my cookie cutter Wicked Sand Toys car over instead of little guys building cars out of some back alley. There is a difference from someone trying to copy a "big boys cookie cutter car" and a company that has a true understanding of the suspension and geometry that goes into building a safe car. I've seen a few cars built in town that I won't mention that I know is a rolling coffin.
barefoot bob
I'll stick to my cookie cutter Wicked Sand Toys car over instead of little guys building cars out of some back alley. There is a difference from someone trying to copy a "big boys cookie cutter car" and a company that has a true understanding of the suspension and geometry that goes into building a safe car. I've seen a few cars built in town that I won't mention that I know is a rolling coffin. :no_no: :porn: :porn: the secret to math and geometry is held only buy large manufacturers . :chkn: where do you think wicked most likely got there start or any of the other big boys and ive seen the aftermath of these ancient chinese perfect math big boy non rollin coffins after a crash. they didnt hold up so well.......................................................... wicked makes a vey fine car but that doesnt mean a smaller biulder does not :no_no: what makes your statement even more off center is that the entire idea of long travel and innovations came from backyard garages when off roading wasnt popular. by trial and error. and new ideas poping up. todays big boys were yesteryears back alley biulders The problem I had with the match-up was they were not comparing apples to apples. Many cars came with major horsepower and others came with lesser horsepower. If you looked at some of the categories like how well does the buggy wheelie, and 2 guys give it a 4 and 5 and the other gives it a 1, there is something wrong here. Some had more shocks than others. To make it fair, every car needs to have about the same equipment in my opinion. and they rate a 700hp car as having excellant asecelleration and the a car 400 pounds lighter with only 300hp gets a near identicle acceleration score ?? 7.13 pounds per 1 hp for the 300hp car scored 4 3.49 pounds per 1 hp for the 750 hp car scored 4.67 and one car is 5.04 pounds per 1 hp and scored 3.67 ??? this is where they should have done an 1/8th mile time for accelaeration not a drivers opinion.with each drivers posted time in that car. im not picking it apart cause they get an A for effort but they need to get it into focus and they all have a base engine they start with when they advertise a car. that should be the motor they kick up for the test. in conclusion they should have had a duning course in the bowls behind olds. a hill shoot at olds an 1/8th mile acceleration at gecko jumping: a prepared jump (for saftey) a sand highway test. a fuel usage test china wall and back these are the common areas duners of all types frequent the most . so wouldnt it have been a better way to test the cars where there mostly going to get used.?? just my 2 cents.......................................... LV Raptor
the secret to math and geometry is held only buy large manufacturers . where do you think wicked most likely got there start or any of the other big boys I guess the way a car tracks through the dunes or bump steer is just in everyones imagination. Why is a Funco have one of the best reputations in handiling? Why do you see a lot of sand rails keep ushing when they start to make a turn with the car? There are a lot of great builders out there (both the main "Big Name" as well as ones that we have not heard of. But I have seen these no name guys trying to build cars. I can buy a welder and copy Barefoot Bobs car. Who wants to run the dunes in it or hit some jumps?? I have a feeling it will not do as well as Bobs car. I would say to go purchase any rail you feel is the right car for you, it is not my life in it.
barefoot bob
well ya... maybe i misunderstood your posting i wouldnt give 100,000. to a hack i took my time. i hung out i looked at there quality of work. i bought a cheaper model first, and we all picked it apart( it was private party) i was very comfortable with his abilities. the people involved in his r&d work ,where he bought the bolt on products from. i was pretty thorough. there was a few i was considering desert dynamics, buckshot, tatum, funco sst. even wicked. ron from monster rail ( before it was monster rail )was gonna biuld my desert dynamics car ( its dds fault my car isnt a dd), richochette and a few others. i was confident this frame is as good as any out there. if you notice i dont bag on the quality of funcos. like i told joe what scared me away was all the broken frame pics that were popping up on funcos in jumping back in 05. i mentioned this to joe or pimp they told me they fixed that problem but at that time i could only go on what i saw. eyeball is a small shop so i kind of got offended at the "back alley" comment ,but now i think i clearly see what your refering to. and with the frame problems i saw with one company, and the semi trained non english speaking employees of another company .i was put off by the "big boys " and the level of customer service at the same shop really fried my butt. tatum is awsom! but to far away. its the only thing that stopped me from them. i thought buckshot was to pricey there cars kick a$$ in my book so i guess i prefer the smaller shops for those reasons, and i like being treated like i just bought a rolls royce even if its only a chevy ( or now a caddy) im still friends with my biulder .i call him all the time just to bs. ( he didnt forget me after the sale) and if i wanted a pair of 35s, right now. to try on my car. he would lend them to me .no questions asked. thats the kind of service i like. i get a hair brained idea he wont let me do it . he isnt afraid to tell me " thats stupid " i met ricky wright from wright gearbox through him ,and he is another really great guy. i have his tranny in my car. i feel well taken care of. yes there are some areas where my car has some short comings. but not in saftey . they are silly things that gives my car character i guess i have 0 bumpsteer killer travel and i swear my sar rides like a caddy! my known motor problems were my fault for thinking old school. i got in a couple of yelling matches with the biulder over my motor choices. lol he was pissed at me . and now that i finally listened it looks like i might ( dont want to jinx myself) have a dependable motor. he also hooked me up with cbm who seem genually concerned on how my motor is performing for me. (after the sale) and i didnt buy one of there expensive motors. just a middle weight motor (as i call it) bruce even posts on here from time to time dune on ....................................................... LV Raptor
Hey Bob, I apologize if it sounded like i was saying somthing bad about your car. I am saying that there are many poorly built cars out there by people that have a bigger imagination than talent. People need to take a close look at what they are putting their lives as well as friends and family. Like I said earlier, I seen a few cars at the sand show that their quality in welds were poor. That excludes all the builders that do not show up to the show. I can name a couple of wanna be builders here in Las Vegas that will build a car that I recommend reserving a place on flight for life, but I will not mention their names. When you here a deal on a new car that is too good of a price, their is a reason for it. I hope this clears everything up Bob
